1. Piano. beautiful. makes all the little hairs on my neck stand up. Good sign. Kicking in now, no lyrics yet. Techno-ish beat. Reminds me of Frank Mills stuff I listened to as a kid, in a very good way. Pipes now. :nice: It's the sort of melody I always wish I could write. Or at least play like that. Now it sounds all Celtic with the pipe melody...has someone been stalking me or something :stunned::uhoh: My heart feels like it's going to burst a little. Who is this? It's great.
2. Snow Patrol! :D "You could be happy..." Supposedly they had a real music box put together for the background bits, according to Gary. :nice: Random fact for the day. I go through love/hate phases with these guys, but it's definitely swung back to love at the moment, what with the new album just killing me with it's amazingness and all. I always like how the words sound so effortless for him like he's right there beside you whispering in your ear making it all up on the spot.
3. Chilled out guitar. French? Nice voice. Neat tone and easy to hear the words. Which is frustrating because I know just enough French to get scraps of what she's saying without context. Something about her house and snow and lights in the evening. Very relaxing, or at least it would be if I wasn't rueing how much French I've forgotten since school.
4. Don't know who this is, but I like it, though it's not exactly my thing. Acoustic guitar and piano. Sounds like an American. Now it's someone who's listened to a fair bit of Oasis. Now it sounds like they're trying to sound old- or may be old, but I don't think so. Good pop sensibility, anyway. His voice vaguely reminds me of Raine Maida from OLP. I like the lyrics in the chorus.
5. ...No alarms and no surprises please. :laugh3: Well... not alarmed or surprised, just like it said on the box. You know I have a friend who listens to some of the same stuff I do (or at least he used to) who upon getting his first ipod and shuffling it together suddenly declared that he had figured out what all the music he likes has in common- they all use a subtle amount of xylophone or other chimes in their music. Doesn't matter what genre it is, there's the xylophone. Realized it's about the same for half the music I like too. Random.
6. Dancing Shoes! Mental whiplash. :dizzy: Radiohead days and Arctic Monkey days are completely separate days for me, so it's a little strange to hear one go straight into the other. But not bad strange. Just brain cramp strange.
7. What the hooey is this? Must turn down volume in a hurry! Got me dancing along a bit, though. Sounds like another song I know but can't remember what with something else laid on top. Now it's changed completely. Kind of reggae? I liked the first part better. It's really neat, though- it's like there's two different things jammed together and it switches back and forth between them.
8. Quiet... glassy... Never heard the song but I may know that voice?.... Or not. Dunno. Ooh, 80's synths. Now this is the kind of new wave I like.
See what I mean about chimes in songs?
9. Woah, big guitar. Interesting. The vocal just sounds so comical to me for some reason. It's got a good chuggy pace to it. I'm moving along. .....Yeah, and now that's why I don't like bluesy stuff normally... the guitar gets kind of shrill after a while. Makes my head hurt.
10. R.E.M.? Someone who's listened to a lot of REM at least... I'm not sure that sounds like Stipe. Big confession time... I'm not so big on REM. :embarassed: Some of their songs are so good, and other just do noting for me. Same goes for soundalikes. Oh, I'll get more into them eventually. It'll just take time. Ooh, a bit of piano. I quite liked that by the end. Good midtempo bit of something.
11. I know that voice. Who is it again? Yeah, it's one of the songs the radio around here tried to kill from overplaying, but the song was good enough that they couldn't quite drive the final nail in even though it didn't do much for me. Heh... away from the other radio crap it actually sounds quite nice. :nice: Who is that anyway? Can't remember.
12. Blondie! :D I love Blondie. I got that album on vinyl at a yard sale last year for 2 bucks along with Autoamerican. Good stuff, though I think it's my least favorite album. This song sounds better on it's own. The cover for this always makes me laugh. What was she thinking anyway?
13. Broken piano chord... tense quiet... moody... good start. Halfway through and it's still all ambient. Very warm ambient. A million images flooding through my head like bits of a movie. It's beautiful. Stirs up so many memories for reasons I can't quite figure out. Sort of like when you smell something and you remember every other time you smelled it? Love it. So much.
14. You know, there's some old interview clips of Chris talking about Warning Sign where he says the thing he doesn't like about the song is that it makes him sound like less of a jerk than he was being at the time the events of the song took place. So I'm listening thinking he's always so hard on himself, but then Jonny agreed he was a massive jerk at that particular time. :inquisitive: I'd love to hear that story if even Jonny was willing to be that hard on him in public for whatever he did. I have a live acoustic version of the song- I think it's from before the album even came out because the second verse is completely different. In that version he panics and does something terrible to make her leave...can't quite remember how it goes, though. I should look it up again. I love seeing how songs evolve like that.
Such a good song. SUCH a good song. So good it needs to be said three times. SUCH A GOOD SONG. :flutterby:
15. Neat guitar... heh, he sounds like Buck 65 right at the start, something about the tone of his voice. But now he's singing and sounds different. I'm liking this. Hey look, a chorus. *points* Ooh, now it's really getting into it. I really like. Weird voice, though.
16. Woah, piano. In the same key as the last song- I didn't even realize the track had ended for a second. She has quite the voice. Like the strings. Not something I would nessesarily go out of my way to listen to, but it's a good song. I like it. :)
17. Quiet piano. Oh, cut up looped piano. I feel like I should know this, but I don't. I bet you it's by someone I've heard before. DJ Shadow maybe? Very chilled out, kind of trip hoppy. Just my thing. :nice: Great way to go out.
Well, that's my first impression, as it all happened. Now back to number 13 to dig up some more old memories before shuffling. Thank-you so much, that was a fantastic mix. Definitely what I'm falling asleep to tonight. You know you've heard a good mix when you finish it feeling all warm and fuzzy and refreshed sort of like you've been on a journey and gotten to the end and had a big glass of water and then everything seems new again. And that's exactly how I feel now.
Great Job!!!!!!! :daisy:
