  1. I'm getting them too. It's a freaking annoying ad to begin with, and there's something about the flash animation that keeps making everything on the computer freeze up. They seem to be what replaced those radio 2 ads for Canada, since they showed up the moment it disappeared.
  2. ^Really? :shocked2: Urban Hymns. Seriously. Soon if not right now. Classic. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyTO0jW8T2o]YouTube - The Verve- Lucky Man[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiQgEn5ibYg]YouTube - Sonnet - The Verve[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3m4e45bTo]YouTube - The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fERekxzkjFE]YouTube - The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work[/ame]
  3. The Dears new album is currently streaming on their myspace. I just listened and it's gorgeous. http://www.myspace.com/thedears
  4. Well you finally made it I see. Pun times for all.
  5. DOYS... it had about 5 or 6 songs I liked on it while Forth only had 3 or 4. For both bands I liked their preceding album much more, while the current albums both drag too much for me in places. (Same goes for Travis too, actually...) Although Oasis register much lower on the disappointment scale if only because they've been around a lot lately so there wasn't as much anticipation. On the other hand, I'll listen to even a bad song with good vocals if the voice happens to belong to Richard Ashcroft. :nice:
  6. Sigh. So many things I want to get around to listening to, so little time. grr. *Adds Fleet Foxes to the list*
  7. ^Well, as someone who's literally been the class geek for the last 20-odd years, I say don't sweat it. Geek is good. :D And yes, you're thinking/worrying about it too much. Music works best when you go on your instincts. What feels right together? If no one cared, what would you absolutely put on it? What goes with those things best? There are lots of different ways to put a mix together, so go with the one that helps you pick songs and end up with something you're happy with rather than trying to please everyone. If you listen to a good album by a single artist, you'll notice a certain sort of pattern to the songs. There will be an opener that sets the tone, a closer that sort of says goodbye, a few higher-energy tracks that keep the momentum going and bring a lot of variety to the album, a couple of quiet songs that make the fast or loud ones stand out, and some in-between songs that transition between the different moods and make the album seem like a unified whole. If you listen to something like Garden State, for instance, mixes do that too. A little bit of something to challenge, a little bit of something to soothe, a couple of universal kick-ass tracks, it's all there. I never even liked Simon and Garfunkle until I heard their song in that context on Garden State, for instance. In my case, I knew I had to have Jenn Grant and Wintersleep on anything I did, period. They're brilliant and I love them and think everyone should listen to them. Since they're both from Halifax, I thought I would come up with something different and better by going with a local theme instead of worrying about how to fit Burial and the Secret Machines into the same mix as Jenn Grant. But that's just me. Here's a hint, though: people will always respond to things that sound familiar but aren't. I don't know why, but it's true. There wouldn't be genres otherwise. Personally, I like things that challenge any pre-conceived notions I might still have, and I love new-to-me things. I don't think anyone would sign up for a mix if they only wanted to hear things they already liked. It's all about balance. Sorry, I've been terribly long-winded, but I hope that helps at least a little. It's a topic that kind of fascinates me. Perhaps a little too much. But seriously, relax. ;)
  8. Store-bought pumpkin pies are ok, but they nowhere near as good as homemade ones. And homemade ones are easy- toss a can of pumkin (canned is best for pie), milk, sugar, eggs, and spices into a blender, mix it up, pour it in a pie shell, and bake. Good stuff. :nice:
  9. Yep, it's delicious. My favorite, in fact. You should try it some time. *nods* Good luck with that paper... :stunned: Had far too many nights like that myself.
  10. Well, it was originally meant as a way to give thanks for the fall harvest, but nowadays it mainly means getting a day off work and eating lots and lots of food. Families usually get together, especially since it's a long weekend. A lot of people have a tradition (at least we do in my family) of taking turns to say what you're thankful for and reflect on all the good things that have happened in the last year. Basically not take life for granted for a change. Then there's the food- lots of turkey, mashed potato, veggies, cranberry sauce, and lots and lots and lots of pie. Pumpkin and apple pie especially (being harvest foods and all). I just got the pumkin pies for tomorrow in the oven now- should be done soon. :D
  11. How did I know you were going to say that...

  13. ^Eeee! You got it. Wasn't sure if anyone could. Eastern Canada, to be exact, though I stretched the definition of east a little to include Montreal, because let's face it, they have one of the coolest scenes on the planet right now.
  14. For all my fellow Canucks out there, have a happy thanksgiving. :D Don't eat too much. :P:laugh3:
  15. Twilight???? Seriously? Whose bright idea was that?...
  16. ^You're welcome. :nice: It was mine. I'll post the tracklist in a minute, but first, any guess on the theme? :wacky:
  17. Yep, at least 5 and no more than 25. I'll get all the details like that spelled out at the official kickoff... which should happen soon.
  18. Neat interview. :nice: Thanks
  19. Yeah, I thought of staying up to wait for it, but I gave up around 1am. Except it was like Christmas- I dreamed of it all night, waking up about every half hour or so to see if it was morning, and finally getting up around 4am to find it had just arrived. Listened to it all the way through on my headphones in the dark in bed. The best way to listen says I. :smug::nice:
  20. Yay! No more bumping. Thanks Dave! :D
  21. Eee! Can't believe it's been a year. Happy birthday. :crown: 1. Reckoner, and it hasn't changed. The first time I heard it I had butterflies in my stomoch from the funny chord sequence. Now I love it because it sounds so new and fresh, but so old school soulful too. In fact it's currently vying with about 5 or 10 other songs for number one favorite of all of theirs. 2. Reckoner-11, 15 Step - 9, Arpeggi, Faust Arp - both 7. The rest less. Last time I logged in? Last year I think. 3. Oh weekly if not daily. I just plain haven't gotten tired of it at all. It's my any mood go to album. Probably works out to between 100 and 200 times. 4. In Rainbows 1st, Ok Computer, Amnesiac, Kid A (tie) 2nd, The Bends a very close 3rd, HTTT next, and PH in a very, very distant last after some of their EPs.
  22. Here's me on lastfm, NinimoftheNorth I should be able to make the time before November. (Though not much sooner :embarassed:) I'm in for sure. :D Love your avi, btw.
  23. Looks like Lost + is the Jay-z version- makes sense; having all the extra stuff in one place. I wonder if the Lovers in Japan remix is the acoustic version? I kind of hope so.
  24. Squeeeeeeeeee!   Voted for Rainy Day... That was the title that got me the most excited last year, and I've been wating ever since. :nice:
  25. And again, a bump. I'll officially get this all kicked off as soon as test season is over and I have a tiny bit of extra time. I know what you mean, on the rare occasions I have a bit of spare pocket change it usually goes to music, but I can't afford much of anything either. That doesn't mean you can't listen, even if you're against illegal downloading. I usually keep one eye on myspace album premiers. That's the best way for me to hear ones I'm interested in these days. Some bands will preview albums on their website or lastfm or msn. Back when I had a bit of spare money to afford it, I used to have a yahoo subscription- unlimited music for about 7 or 8 bucks a month. It was nice. If you're a compulsive new music listener like me, there are ways.
