Albums of the Year: 2008
^Thanks! :nice: Added. As well as the other lists I hadn't gotten to yet. If your list isn't in the first post or the link doesn't work just say so. When I compile the master list, those are the lists I use. Remember guys, you need at least 5 albums for your list to count. And no EPs are allowed this year, so sorry, but Coldplay's EP is out.

Women binge drinking a week's alcohol in one night!!
:laugh3: Well put. Well I don't generally drink at all and I still find it rather sexist and offensive how they continuously single out women in all these articles.

Join the Street Team! Help promote Coldplay!
Wait, Coldplay actually needs a street team? I spend enough time defending them on a regular basis. I really see no need to make it formal. :P

Is "British" a racist term??
Touche. :(

Is "British" a racist term??
What?..... What?... I've spent enough time in Belfast to have an inkling of how complicated some people's relationship with the term is. But I always get the impression that it has more to do with the way various incarnations the British government has behaved over the last few centuries and the ways certain people and cultures have been hurt by that (trying to wipe the Welsh language off the face of the earth for example) than anything to do with race. But you still need a catch-all term for member of the UK. British is the only one I've ever heard. And it's a good term. People around the world think highly of it. Political correctness gone mad indeed. ^I think it's more like saying I can't call you American since people associate it with Yankees which might upset someone from Texas. In other words, complete absurdity.

THE OFFICIAL *YELL AT ROLLINGSTONE FOR POOR REVIEWS* THREAD
Yeah, I don't get rolling stones reviews... they've been pretty erratic lately. Not that I ever cared that much to begin with. Yeah, but at least Pitchfork has a clear and consistent bias. Once you figure out how it works the rating will tell you a lot more about the album than words could. Which is good, because their prose sucks. Really, really sucks. Sort of like the kids in English class who think using big words they don't really know the meaning of makes them sound smart. The way I think of it is that anything above 50 is good. If it's between 50 and 70, add 20 points. If it's between 70 and 90, add 10, and if it's above 90, subtract 10. I've found that gives a much better idea of how much I might like an album- the original rating tells what kind of an album it is.

Jon Hopkins!
Never heard of him until VLV, but I'm glad I did. :nice: His stuff is so beautiful. Just remember guys, no links allowed in the music section...

Why talking sarcastically about the weather while queueing makes you a true Brit!!
Moaning about the weather and drinking? I know plenty of people around here who fit that description... Not enough people waiting to line up for buses though... and the class thing, well that's totally just you guys.

It's time I got a new car can I have some suggestions?
My family is collectively on our 8th or 9th Mazda in the last 25-odd years-they're fantastic cars, old or new. The 3, or if you're looking for used Protege (same thing) are very good cars on the smaller end. They're fun to drive and they haven't let us down yet. We also have a 6 at the moment- it's great too if you want something a little bigger.

I'm gonna miss this place and everyone terribly *cry*
Haha... "I won't I won't I won't". Don't worry about it- we'll still be here when you get back. ;) I'd trade all that stuff in a second if it meant getting to see a bit more of the world like that. :)

Albums of the Year: 2008
For people having trouble remembering what came out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_albums_released_in_2008 Just don't trust the release dates- this list goes by US release dates as far as I can tell, so things might have had much earlier UK release dates.

Albums of the Year: 2008
^^Yeah but time is short, and the listening list is long. Wolf Parade and City and Colour are second chances- I've tried to get into them and couldn't before for whatever reason. MGMT I've heard one song all over the place that I really love, so they're top priority after Sam Roberts new album. We'll see. ^Your're welcome. :nice: I almost forgot them too till I saw them on a list....which reminds me... I really ought to do a blurb for Sons and Daughters sometime.... their album is fantastic.

Coldplay Wins Top-Selling Act at World Music Awards
http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE4A901Z20081110 MONACO (Reuters) - British band Coldplay was crowned the world's top-selling act of 2008 at the World Music Awards (WMAs) in Monaco. Their latest album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," released mid-year, topped charts in the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany, France and elsewhere. Sales apparently benefited from Coldplay's marketing strategy, including giving away the first single free over the Internet for a week and staging a series of free concerts before embarking on an international tour. The band was also named the WMA's rock act of the year at an awards ceremony, although they were not there to accept it. Beyonce and Kid Rock were among the performers on the night. The annual awards honor artists based on worldwide sales figures provided by IFPI, a London-based body representing the recording industry. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX-xLhijcHE]YouTube - Coldplay, Winehouse & Beyonce win at the World Music Awards[/ame] The female pop award went to Britain's Leona Lewis, who outsold Madonna and Mariah Carey, while the male pop category was won by U.S. singer Kid Rock, who released the album "Rock N Roll Jesus" late in 2007. Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse, whose private life and battle with addiction have overshadowed her career success, was named female pop/rock act of the year, while Kid Rock made it a brace by winning the pop/rock male award. Alicia Keys won the world's best R&B category while Lewis capped a triumphant year with the new artist prize. Lil Wayne of the United States was named world's top hip-hop/rap artist, while Senegal-born Akon was crowned biggest Internet artist of the year. On behalf of his old band The Beatles, Ringo Starr was in Monaco to accept the diamond award, created in 2001 to honor artists who have sold more than 100 million albums during their career. According to the WMA, the Fab Four have sold more records than any other act in history, with music sales estimated by their label at more than 1 billion records worldwide. U.S. record executive L.A. Reid also received a prize for outstanding contribution to the music industry.
