  1. Off listening to lots of stuff that isn't Genesis. :tongue: I know the name, and that Phil Collins has something to do with it. That's it. Not interested.
  2. Thanks, proper Mo. :D What I can find on it says they're still planning to release a new version of it next year. I suppose I possibly could allow it if you were desperate to include it, but it would make it really awkward next year.

  4. riiight.... so he was in Genesis? :thinking: Still stands, though. Never met a geek, even at conventions, who was into him or Genesis. A few Led Zepplin fans, understandably, though they keep their heads down and their mouths shut. A LOT of Celtic music fans. A few Radiohead fans. But most geeks have very little in common musically- it's an extremely diverse crowd in that sense.
  5. It is. The best. Yeah, that happens to a lot of people. The descriptive stuff especially is there more for re-reading when there's time for really vivid world-building, it's ok to sort of skim over it your first time through. By book 3 it really picks up. And there's a lot of great stuff in the books that never made it into the movies (though I have to hand it to them, they really did try.) Oi! Faramir is my absolute favorite character in the whole book. Well, him and the book version of Merry. But he's awesome. :cool: I take it you're referring to the movie versions, though? They totally butchered Faramir's character there. Probably the #1 thing that bugs me about the movies. Too much to even explain how much here. Though Sean Bean was all kinds of awesome, I have to say. :wink3: But there were all sorts of subtle undercurrents going on between the brothers and their father in the books that sort of got lost in translation. Not to mention they left out the whole part about Faramir looking after Eowyn when she was hurt and sort of going a bit crazy. Trust me, he was a really sweet, noble, wise, caring sort of person, and he didn't do a lot of the things he does in the movies....

  7. Tis a good list. :nice: It's good to have someone say good things about their actual merit instead of bashing them for being popular for once.
  8. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8 I know what you mean, they had this sweet sadness and intimacy to their older stuff that I really loved. But the world is so dark right now, and their new stuff is so full of light and life, it's like the perfect antedote to all the darkness. I don't see how celebrating life can count as loosing your spiritual side. I don't know about anyone else, but hearing lines in happy songs like "I have no doubt, one day the sun will come out" and "it's such a perfect day", and in a display so full of colour and joy, I think it's wonderful. :nice: Wish I could see it live.

I like that one :nice: It's a different sentiment than what you were hoping for, I think, but it captures the idea looking forward to looking back so well.

  11. Have you tried Yeats? I'm not sure if he's written anything futuristic, but some of his stuff has a habit of seeming very profound.
  12. It's de-humanizing I tell you. I just found out my best friend from junior high is engaged. I know because of Facebook- she changed her relationship status. No warning, no announcement, just a little heart on a page. I also just found out a friend, or at least a friend of a friend had died very suddenly. How was I told about this? There was a Facebook group for his funeral, two lines below that engagement notice. I found out that he was sick last week (on Facebook!), which was shocking, but I had no idea... He was 25 and brilliant. And now he's gone and no one even told me. Why would they have. But I just found out in a little box sandwiched between my aunt's lunch and someone else walking their dog. Or something like that. Like it was nothing more significant than doing laundry. I have an easier time having a conversation with some of the people on here than with real once close friends who now seem to think that Facebook is the answer to maintaining relationships. They've even given up on msn. They run off and say "it's ok, I'm on facebook". Which means I find out that they're brushing their teeth, but nothing about who they really are or think or what's going on. Until you find out their boyfriend has cancer one day. And is dead the next week. Talk to the people you care about, guys. Really talk to them, face to face in person if you can. Because you don't know. You can never know, you know? I wish I knew how, but in true Maritime fashion, everyone is moving away. Excuse me, I have a long, dark night of the soul to attend to. :cry:
  13. A note about the most recent news item, I downloaded the track off of itunes canada a few days ago, so I think you can access it anywhere, not just in the UK. Gorgeous song. I can't stop listening to it. Sounds more like a Mew song to me than anything, though I can't quite make out the lyrics. :nice: That KT Tunstall track Hidden Heart is really something too. One of the best she's ever done says I. ^Yeah, we talked about that when I took an anthropology class a couple of years ago. Aboriginal groups the world over- the ones that have actually survived until now- get treated in the worst possible ways by people and corporations who want their land or resources. Not good stuff. And not 'progress'. Many of those cultures have a much healthier, stabler, more effective way of life than western culture, even if they don't have a tv. :sad:

To all the people randomly mentioning single albums especially the "Dig Out Your Soul" crowd, I'm assuming an actual list will be a little more you know, list-like if and when you actually post one... Sorry for the intentional triple post. It does make things easier. :embarassed:
  17. Promos and leaks do not count. If it is released by the deadline, (probably December 14th) it's fine. Dave mentioned The Little Flames barely existent album from last year. That was a special case since the official album did exist to some extent, and there never was going to be a release since the band split up. If it comes to something like that, I'll take a look at it closer to the deadline, ok? ;)
  18. That's good. "Brother Down" is one of my favorite songs ever. I shall have to make an effort to hear the new album too. Sorry dude. In Rainbows topped last year's list, so isn't eligible this year.
  19. He does look like Chris though. Not exactly, but they both have nearly the same nose and lighbulb-shaped head. Different eyes, though. Some pictures there's more of a resemblance than others. I'll be going through some random music site or magazine or something and see a picture of him going, why's Chris th... oh, it's that Morrison guy. Happened 3 or 4 times at least now.
  20. Yes. They are. You mean The Sam Roberts Band? :nice: How is it? The first single (in hindsight heard all compressed and muffled on the car radio) really turned me off the album so I haven't looked into it yet. Though I really ought to.

  22. He hasn't been their manager since they started recording AROBTTH. He couldn't handle the pressure of being the band's go-to guy for the media and everything else. He's always been their "secret fifth member" but by the time X&Y came out he was freaked out enough by their success to run off to Australia for a while. If I remember right Chris said once he was getting his doctorate of psychology? (eta: been looking, can't find it.... maybe I'm going crazy...) I really don't think finances are our buisness. I'm sure they take good care of him.
