  1. :stunned: I've never noticed that! But it does. :laugh3:
  2. I don't think the message is that you can't escape love at all. I think it's more that if you don't learn from your mistakes, you're going to end up repeating them, and that no matter how painful mistakes can be, they are an important part of who you are. It's classic old fashioned scifi, really. It presents a "what if" question (what if you could erase painful memories? would it be a good thing? Would your life be better?), invents fictional science that can answer that question, and shows the results- usually forcing the reader or viewer to come to terms with some of the ways that it can go wrong. I like it because it reminds me that even the bad things in my life have a reason for existing; that they're worth something. One of my all-time favorite movies.

    BIGFOOT!

I'm a wimp when it comes to chances... I have to overanalise everything. But then every once in a while there is something that I want so bad I take all kinds of crazy chances for it, like when I really, really, really wanted to go to Ireland with some people I knew. The crazy thing is that it worked.
  5. Heh... Goblet of Fire is next on my list to read when Summer comes and I have a chance to read for fun again. I have a feeling I'm going to finish it, though- I've read much bigger before. Speaking of which, I wonder what percentage of people dropped out of reading Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" books partway through one of them. *raises hand* -halfway through book 10. The hardcover editions are part of the reason I have back problems, they're so massive.
  6. Arctic Monkeys - Chun Li's Spinning Bird Kick
  7. Yes, you did. :D Still would like to know how you knew though...
  8. The US store is up! And there are free mugs! Guess it took them longer because they had to set up a new site. Got my order in- I'm getting it for my birthday. (we need a snoopy dance smiley of some sort.) Ok, let's say it is. I get something I have wanted for a very long time out of it, EMI or no EMI- a good collector's set of all the singles. EMI gets something to make a big deal about without alienating the die-hard fans by over-marketing it to the uncaring masses. Coldplay get to avoid the embarrasment of a premature greatest hits album. Sounds like a win-win-win situation to me.
  9. I was under the impression that it was very limited edition, but I don't know for sure.
  10. ^ ooh... Thanks for the link. You're back! :stunned:
  11. Aww... I used to make tents like that all the time with my siblings when I was little... we would stack the couch cushions up for little ones, and then drag the diningroom chairs and all of the blankets and pillows over for the big ones. We would do it up against the hearth in the living room so there was a nice shelf to put food and stuff on. This was the 80's, so laptops weren't really around... but they were great for reading in. Man, I want to try that again now... ...on second thought, I'm probably way too tall to fit anymore...
  12. Good scifi names usually have a bit of history to them... For instance, what sort of things would the good guys say about them, and how might that have become a name? Sometimes descriptive names can be good. On the other hand, what sort of things do they think about themselves? If they have their own language, what sort of sounds would it have, and why? What would they want to call themselves? If they called themselves the head-splitters, and they used alot of very gutteral sounds in their language, how would head splitters be translated? how would that name be shortened? Maybe the names have something to do with where they come from? Just as an example, I heard Greenland got it's name, because the people who named it didn't want settlers to think that it was too cold there. And that's all the name is- green and land. Sometimes simple things like that can be effective. I might be able to give you more specific ideas if i knew more about the people, but I hope that helps. Yes, I'm a geek. So what. :smart:
  13. Yeah, and it also makes them desperate enough trying to break through here that they go and do silly things.... Like opening for My Chemical Romance when they ought to be headlining and staying away from the emo crowd.
  14. Could you imagine if they were? Everyone would be so miserable... We'd have even more to live up to, people's self images would be even worse, and everyone would complain that the stars were too boring. There's a reason the Greek gods were pretty messed up.
  15. I think I remember that you or at least someone who was interested started a thread asking for toronto stuff... and then the first post was edited as more things were added? But yeah, it was a long time ago... my memory's fuzzy, and it may be a glitch?
  16. ^ Ooh... Thanks! :D It's funny... the vid reminds me of that Emily Haines video Dr. Blind... except they're exactly opposite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnN0UwSEeeA
  17. Thank goodness for TWOP... I've missed 4 episodes in a row now out of pure absentmindedness... It's funny though... I've gotten to the point that I care an awful lot more about what's going on with Laine than Rory or Lorelai...
  18. Time change. :dozey: Time change. Time change. :( Bed. :shifty: Grr. Don't wanna. :veryangry2:
  19. Yum. Popcorn It's cold here- who turned down the heat? Still haven't thought of a birthday present... there are too many people born in March! And yet another day goes by and that overdue paper hasn't been started. :dizzy: 5 thoughts at once are alot harder than one.
  20. I think I remember when you started that thread... *shrugs*
  21. Here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AR8I1T6U
  22. ^no prob ;) It says it's going to be about 40min, so I'll check on it in about half an hour.
  23. :stunned: Those are amazing, pink elephant, thank-you so much!! I'll see if I can get them up onto megaupload for you... but they're huge! -You could practically print them off as posters without losing any quality! edit: uploading... going to take awhile...
  24. I'd love to know what your source for that is... but for now I'll take your word for it... anything for hope... fingers crossed. Worst case scenario though, Mom just reminded me that I have a cousin who lives in England. I doubt she would approve of my taste in music, but she might help anyway...
