  1. Will do. Yeah, I get that feeling every time I cross the bridge to Maine. It's weird, though. I went to Ireland, and yeah there were major differences, but it was the things that were the same that stood out. I moved to New Hampshire for a year, and after awhile all the little things really started to add up. I like Michigan people though. They're the only ones who believe me that soda is called 'pop'.
  2. Well, snow or no snow, I need some sleep. :snore:
  3. There's one in the international section... but where we speak English, no one ever posts in it...
  4. And sure enough it is. "Shambala" by Three Dog Night. hmm- neat choice lyrically.
  5. :laugh3: Yeah, because Space Cowboys are really deep what with all their cheesy otherworldlyness and such....  Mandy, it sounds like you need to find something to balance the Muse with. Sometimes, if I'm listening to something too much I force myself to listen to something very different for awhile- it helps me appreciate the first thing more later. *shrug* But maybe that's just me.
  6. No, we never really got much of the ice storm here- saw plenty of it on the news, though. Had 'White Juan' (and Juan) to make up for it a few years later. The Arcade Fire wrote "Power Out" about that ice storm if I remember right... Getting pummeled now... the wind is howling all around the house, and driving the snow against the side my room is on... not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight :(
  7. Yeah, I think they've found a really good balance between going for a different theme or feeling or something every album and still being themselves. And hey, I like it best when Matt goes into grand maestro mode, but give me a starship and some space cowboys and I'm happy!
  8. It took me a long time to warm up to BHAR. It's not as consistant as the two before it imho. It also doesn't have as much of a keyboard heavy Rachmaninoff influence as the others which is actually part of what got me into them. That said, it has waaaay too many favorite songs on it for me not to like it. They've probably still got their noses out of joint over Supermassive Black Hole.
  9. Spiderman, X-Men, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four (Batman is from DC Comics)... he's responsible for most of the major characters at Marvel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Lee As for acting, the whole point of a cameo is to be conspicuous. Good acting would kind of ruin that. :laugh3:
  10. I just bought Origin of Symmetry today! And it's still my favorite album :nice: Listening to it right now. Only album I don't own now is BHAR... but I do have a birthday in the not too distant future...
  11. Apparently, Coldplay is mentioned in the new Guy Gavriel Kay book "Ysabel": http://www.macleans.ca/homepage/magazine/article.jsp?content=20070305_103073_103073
  12. :bigcry: And I missed it because the stupid cable box stopped working just when the show was going to come on. *edit* Got it back in time to catch the (really late grr...) US broadcast. Such a great episode- now there's the Lost I know and love :nice: Really really really want to know what that song was.
  13. I laughed so hard when I saw Stan Lee there on the bus. That last episode was so sad, though. Poor Claire.
  14. ^^I'd say both. But seriously, what are they going to do? Do a dna test on some of the gunk on the shroud of Turin? Or maybe they should ask God for a dna sample. The fact is, there were many people named Jesus in the first century, and even more people named Mary- at least three in the gospels alone. To assume that the Jesus and Mary mentioned were the Christ, and Mary Magdeline? It's just bad science. Really lazy, bad science and wishful thinking.
  15. It also often gets confused with Narcissism- an excessive love of self. The lack of empathy part certainly explains the line about babies... I think the part about take off your disguise is saying something like wait a minute this is me thinking this and it isn't right, I can't go justifying it. You know those little self-centered thoughts that go flitting through the back of your mind before being dismissed by things like empathy or logic or whatever. Anyway, sorry just having another English student moment. :smart: It's what I get for spending too much time analysing poetry for class, I guess. :freak:
  16. The thing I've noticed about songs like Megalomania, Stockholm Syndrome or Hysteria- the ones that can be kind of dark and disturbing and nonsensical- is that the lyrics are about what the title is. If you think about Megalomania as a song that was written specifically about megalomania, it makes sense.
  17. Don't worry... mine will probably show up a day or two before the deadline. And I'm sure I'm not the only chronic procrastinator on here either.
  18. ^If you're on the second episode, then yeah, we're about a half a season ahead of you. And it is good- keep watching. :nice:
  19. Know what's worse than being stuck home sick with a nasty sore throat? Being stuck home sick with a nasty sore throat and no voice. :disappointed: At least I can still type. Though it would be nice to talk to people in my immediate vacinity...
  20. I keep hearing rumors that it's meth psychosis. Sure looks like it is. Nastiest stuff in the universe. I lost a good friend to a crystal meth addiction. He's still alive, but his soul is missing- I don't dare go near him anymore, and he doesn't want to talk to anyone anyway. That stuff will ruin your life.
  21. I knew it wasn't Texaco... it was just something about the way it was described the first time I heard about it, it sounded more like 7-eleven than Walmart. But I had it explained to me eventually. Funny I never saw one when I was in Belfast, though... or at least never noticed it.
  22. Dude, the war of 1812 happened when AMERICA invaded CANADA (though it wasn't a nation quite yet) Because the Americans were sulking that the British were blockading the ships they were sending to France (the Brits were at war with Napoleon by the way) and they thought Ontario would make an easy target. In fact it's known as the war that both sides won because all the Canadian militia cared about was getting their land back, and the Americans were happy not to lose completley. :P Sorry, just having a history buff moment. :sneaky:
  23. At last, the truth comes out. :P :laugh3:
  24. Best gif ever. And with that, I'm off...
  25. :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: Total melodrama. :shifty: *edit* and ironically enough, with this post I actually noticed a milestone of my own for the first time in hundreds of posts.... 1,300. :laugh3: *sigh*
