Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
Good points guys!! I'm surprised how much live singing there is on that VLV performance actually (never seen it before), so maybe it will be live with a backing track? That would make sense, as they can perhaps mix the levels of each afterwards to make it sound as good as possible. I have to say that version of VLV doesn't sound that good, I hope they do a better job this time. I'm no sound engineer, but aren't there quite a few effects on Chris' vocals throughout Christmas Lights? In VLV it's mainly the choruses I think, the verses are pretty 'straight'. No idea if that makes Christmas Lights harder to produce a live/backing track mix for that does the single justice. It'll be really interesting to hear afterwards what people say about it :) The worst ever TotP miming fiasco was of course (such a beautiful song too ): [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1JIe8Zlvr4]YouTube - All About Eve - Martha's Harbour - Infamous TOTP Appearance! Camapign to get Christmas lights to number 1 / Chart updates
Great idea Phil, but I think it's a bit late. We should have organised something on here before the release so everyone held back - but then I don't really use social media, and don't know what's possible so don't listen to me :laugh3: I guess you need to get something out there ASAP because a lot of casual Coldplay fans will be becoming aware the song's out, or very soon will, and otherwise no doubt they'll buy it straight away. I won't be buying it at any point I'm afraid - digital music's worthless in my eyes. I'll only buy physical on principle, unless it's for charity. And this'll be on a Christmas compilation soon enough. Anyway, that's just about as off-topic as it gets :P Good luck, and I'd love to see this at number one (of course)!! :)

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
Quite an interesting event, so happy to see the dedicated fans get tickets thanks to Coldplay.com :) Yes, get there fairly early everyone, these things are always over-ticketed! As it's TotP, and as the track has so many other instruments other than the boys', the music at least won't be live I think, and my best guess is that Chris will be focused on performing best for TV, in which case the vocal won't be either. So then, the hour's for multiple takes to get enough good shots from different angles and one (at least near-)perfect runthrough?? There's also the time to get everyone into position, camera-check the crowd (no giants stood at the front in the middle!!), and if it's Christmas lights to be held by all, and swaying in time, then someone from the BBC will set up that and get people practising. At worst it'll be just a couple of runthroughs with the band on stage I would have thought, but even then it'll no doubt be fascinating to see how it all works, and of course there's potential for it to be more than that :)

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
I tried to open it in a new link and I got the same thing, but it's still playing in the old window, so maybe it's just overloaded? Keep trying? And there's a link to mp3 download in someone's signature.

Letter from Phil Harvey: Dear Coldplaying...
We sent them postcards before, that worked out really well :D Small, can be sent from anywhere in the world, beautiful, individual, and recyclable :sunny: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvCKbTFcNlI]YouTube - Coldplaying.com - 'Postcards From Far Away' - Watch Coldplay reading the poscards[/ame] Now THAT is just about the best thing a band and their staff have ever done for their fans, the whole thing was magical :)

Letter from Phil Harvey: Dear Coldplaying...
Uh yeah, that's because you're crazed fangirls duh :D Funnily enough, I joked many times throughout the night that I wished I was a female fan, because I might have been happier then, but alas my dream wasn't fulfilled :laugh3: It was a great night, mainly because of seeing everyone from the forum again and meeting new friends, and on that note Carla so lovely to see you back

A cruise to remember... 25th Nov... LLL's photoblog
Great suggestion Phil and it topped the night off perfectly :) So all the photos were taken on your camera then? Can we have a link to max-res copies please? Never knew before that you met Kara at Wembley - great stuff!!

Letter from Phil Harvey: Dear Coldplaying...
Those (quite a few) of us who fall somewhere between somewhat and incredibly disappointed with the boat trip have been silent since we initially made it known, as far as I know. Could you please possibly extend the same courtesy? The only reason why I'm posting this in public is because you will not stop going on about it. Otherwise, agreed, it's very sweet, thank you very much Phil :)

That snippet is the basis for part of the song, I'd say, though the words have changed I'm pretty sure. And obviously there's a whole lot more to it now :) You haven't! Won't ask why!! :P I'll send you a PM :)

Lovely Phil :) Aw, my beautiful friend Frida... Cheer up! It might never happen! ;) Great stuff :D Is that the 'official' photo, if so how did you get it? They needed someone taller to take it to fit everyone in!!

Messages from __***The Beehive***__ (FOUND! page 14...)
Kat you made it!!! What a great photo!! :) I think there's some misinformation there too, possibly. I expect a June release if it's ready and they're happy with it (and if there is misinformation there I think that's why - to take the pressure off).

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
Not rude, just facts. If you don't like them just ignore them. Miller was never coming, nor was Phil; they obviously had to both be at the video shoot, it was a smokescreen. We were told as much almost as soon as we got on the boat, so we were obviously 'tricked' on those. Not sure about Matt, but it fits the pattern. Anyway I'm done with Twisted Logic. I was there, many of us were. We all know what went down.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
Do you know anything? Miller was never coming, Phil was probably a smokescreen as he would have been planned in the vid a long time in advance. Having actually been on the boat we were told that EVERYTHING (get that?) was a 'trick' to get us there to film the video. I'll talk to debs as and when I please thanks, as I always do. In the meantime, you might like to notice that this is a discussion forum, which is why I'm discussing things here :) Exactly, Miller was a lie. Not very happy about that.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
OK then ignore Phil...one person couldn't make it...no problem, we'd all understand (even though it was never explained to us), but all 3 of the promised guests? Two of whom were obviously a smokescreen. Please!! Wood? Trees? Know the difference? PLEASE stop complaining about people who weren't happy with tonight. You were - great - I'm genuinely happy for you :) Do you see people like me saying 'PLEASE stop praising tonight'? Of course you don't - we're all entitled to our different opinions, so please respect that and stop being so dismissive of others. If you'd read my earlier posts more carefully you'd know that no-one is more delighted than me for everyone who enjoyed tonight more than I did (and I did enjoy it).

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
Many thanks MartinFan :) I haven't read back on most of the posts since mine because perhaps I'm being criticised for being negative, and I don't have time for that (seeing as I should be in bed!) but I'm just trying to give one point of view. I'll give up now and just email Coldplay HQ and give links to my feedback, I don't have much more to say... It was so nice to meet the guys from there, they were lovely (as always). But I could go hang around the studio areas for a few days and probably meet all the band, get stuff signed, have a chat (maybe) - all far, far more than we got for much more effort (for most people) on this boat trip. Would they rather we go hanging around the studios...guess so, I'm afraid to say, although it's not my thing. I just wanted to meet Miller again, Matt and Phil, ask them questions (as promised) and listen and sing to Coldplay all night with my friends (on the soundsystem would have been fine, no real band needed!). The fact we had to pay for drinks is absolutely outrageous in my book. Not everyone drank, and we only had one or two each. I had two drinks which cost me almost £8. I've spent at least eight hours this week trying to organise people to hook up with others with spare tickets, and helping international visitors make arrangements, so I've basically been helping organise Coldplay's extras for them. Others have run themselves into the ground to make this work for Coldplay HQ. Never again for me. Gutted. Off to bed now but looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow, it'll be great!!

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
I haven't read many replies to my post (I don't much care, I was there and I know how I feel) but this is absolute nonsense from start to finish. We got far less than we were promised (what it was supposed to be): - no meet-and-greet or Q&A with Miller, Matt and Phil (many people spent many hours finding Matt's book in London to buy for a second time for him to sign, when they were already exhausted after sometimes days without proper sleep). We were 'tricked' (for some people that may be a good thing for the chance to be in the vid, for me and many others I spoke to it was extremely disappointing). - no refreshments on the boat provided except for tea and coffee (which was obviously just to keep us warm for the video). The cups ran out before the many times we were asked to go and stand in the freezing cold again. - We were told the party would end at 11:30 or later. Many people booked hotels or spent huge amounts of time trying to make other arrangements on that basis. Then after the video had been shot we were suddenly told it'd finish earlier (ended up being 1hr45mins~ earlier). My feeling was that we were only there for the long range video shot, and anything after was a bit of an afterthought. Sorry Coldplay, my time is worth more than that! I don't know why I bother replying to you at all when you say 'You didnt get anything less then what you were promised..' Have you followed this thread? Bothered to read the first post with what Coldplay HQ offered? Realise why people spent huge amounts of money travelling to what was basically a video shoot in the freezing cold? I don't think so. The bottom line: if Coldplay HQ had explicitly invited us to a 'party' on a boat, a chance to be involved in something that doesn't involve the band directly, explained that whatever expense we went to plans might be changed at the very last minute meaning we couldn't actually attend, and that there would be limited tea and coffee and sandwiches only, how many people would they have got from here? Not many. It was sold as a huge reward to Coldplaying for the incredible years of support the forum (and mainly Ian and Jen, but also the incredible mods) have put in. I was there, and it was nothing of the sort. They should have just hired extras (that would have been much more expensive for them, but do they really think that being on a long shot in a vid is worth people breaking their necks to travel, for example, from the US or Asia for???) And can you explain why the director on the boat 'joked' that "I know you've all come here expecting a private gig from the band but this is it" (his words weren't exactly that but the same meaning) while we were freezing of cold for the third or fourth time? He knew why we were there and what we were dreaming of, what we'd almost been led to expect - they knew we went expecting more. Fine, not the band, just Miller and Phil and Matt would have been INCREDIBLE. Again, that is what we were told would happen. We were 'tricked' :( Don't bother answering any questions - they are rhetorical. I somewhat wish I'd withheld my consent form now (many of us finished signing after the filming). But I couldn't have done that to the lovely people from Coldplay HQ, or the band who were no doubt none the wiser, who came along - Debs chief among them. For me just a very sorry set of arrangements :(
