  1. OK GUYS what it looks like quite clearly to me is that there are two physical issues here, as people have already suggested: 1) The very special 100 hand-painted copies in origami sleeves, made by people close to the band, and on their behalf for the most important people they need to get a copy to. All signed (so we think, because that's what was said on the radio) and with actual Christmas Lights on (?). Wow, what an incredible thing to have!! 2) Simple promo copies sent to radio stations. The ones on ebay seem to be number 2), don't they? If so please don't pay hundreds for those! Because there may be many many hundreds in existence being passed around (I guess), and the fact people are selling them without a second thought on ebay really makes me think they're not worth much. Of course, any copy of number 1) would be incredibly rare and precious I would think, at least it would be to me :dreamy: From what we've been told, the competition involves number 1), doesn't it? Tbh, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth that number 2) seems to exist, when we're all desperate to have a physical copy, but I guess that's another subject...
  2. The Cure link's not working here, unfortunately :( Plus, also, no threads for Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, The House of Love, The Wonderstuff?!! I'm going to make some threads this weekend so those are the ones I'm looking at and can't see...sorry mods if I duplicate and please merge, or give me a shout on here, cheers :)
  3. Writing to a dear friend from here a few nights ago got me starting listening to this again after almost twenty years, and now I can't stop!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXOgRvj76zI]YouTube - HOUSE OF LOVE - Christine[/ame]
  4. I think you're right Anna! I also think that if that item was real the seller would have put a LOT more description and photos on the listing.
  5. It's worth an awful lot more than that right now!

A very interesting and thought-provoking post Custard, thanks...very timely. I look forward to reading your future musings and hope you use the thread however you wish, and also get some interesting replies :)
  7. So great to hear that everyone who's reported back so far got in and had an amazing time!! :)
  8. Tonsu replied to TF5092's topic in Coldplay
Have we come to the right thread?
  9. Wow, this thread's so quiet! No-one getting excited about this? :shocked2::stunned::o
  10. Tonsu replied to TF5092's topic in Coldplay
About bad vibes someone mentioned did they, hmmm? This thread run to its natural conclusion it has, yes? WOOF!
  11. As someone who lives in the UK, I disagree with this. Out of all my friends (away from friends I have met through here), only one pays for music downloads, the rest of them see them as worthless and download whatever they like for free. I think the younger you are the more likely you are to buy digitally. All my friends are in their 30s. Coldplay have a huge casual fanbase in the 30+ age bracket who will buy when they know something's been released. When VLV came out just about everyone in my local supermarket was buying it as they passed it in the shop, whatever their age. These people probably make the difference in getting Coldplay albums and singles to number 1. There would be a huge number of people just seeing a CD in the supermarket and buying it as a stocking-filler or on the spur of the moment who would NOT buy a digital download. Plus as I mentioned the crucial large amount of advertising and awareness having it in stores at the busiest time of year brings. That's why the Christmas number 1, whatever it is, will have a physical release, even if most sales are digital, and unfortunately that means it will not be Christmas Lights :(
  12. Perhaps therein lies the problem? I think a physical release would have made it a much bigger 'event' and very importantly attracted the eye while out shopping of the huge number of casual fans that Coldplay have. For example I have a friend who loves the band, has all the B-sides, but he didn't even know they had a song out till I told him, and he adores it. There's the hope for a Twitter or Facebook campaign, how's it all going, what's the reaction like? The lack of a physical release also makes me wonder how serious the band are about making this a huge hit. I've a feeling they want to avoid 'Crazy Froggate mk II' and are quite happy to release this to the ether, and not worry (too much) about where it ends up...
  13. My favourite ever version of Yellow (and not because I was there). I saw them play the same acoustic on the balcony at Brixton two days earlier, with fewer mistakes, but no ad lib about the builders, which is just so fun. So take your pick; more banter and relaxed (but no HQ video exists), or this...just know that mindblowing is the only word you're allowed to use to comment!! Every hair on my back was frozen at this point. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbNYubIrxmI]YouTube - Coldplay - Yellow (acoustic) live @ BBC '08[/ame]
  14. It's great to see this thread rocking again, hey everybody  Dad's ok thanks my friend :nice: Chris is tall in real life? What did you expect, Gimli?! :P I should have taken photos because the scene was indescribably beautiful. Plus, I passed some places you guys know from the summer like the duck pond - all completely frozen up and the ducks sheltering under that gorgeous willow tree, don't know if you recall - but I was just too cold :P
  15. I appreciate the sentiments, and I'd love to say 'merry Christmas' to all other Coldplayers but your choice of song is off. Such ignorant lyrics. As if there are no snow-capped mountains in Africa :inquisitive: My mother almost died climbing this mountain, try telling her there's no snow in Africa. How about the next verse sings about how they all dance round in grass skirts when they're not hungry, and spear each other to death? There's nothing I dislike more than racially insensitive people.
  16. Thanks so much Paul, and again you've been so incredibly helpful to people here - you are a top gent :) I read your BBC page, how cool to have a whole article about you!! November '89 sounds about right for Fool's Gold. Before then all my friends looked blankly at me when I mentioned them (all except the one or two 'in the know' kids at school :laugh3:). After that it exploded; once they'd performed I was the most popular kid in school and in the streets because I already had everything from their first single onwards (still do have), and for my generation at least, it was a huge musical awakening: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUhXWm8V6C0]YouTube - Stone Roses- Fools Gold- Top of the Pops 1989[/ame] Again, thank you :)
  17. I know it won't be answered publicly (just like Carrie's, great question though :laugh3:) but I asked why the boat party finished two hours (or more) earlier than we were told and asked to plan for, and if there was perhaps some anticipation that we would go along after the boat to see the filming of the video. I said that if it was due to that then it was unfair, because they gave us the very strong impression on the boat that any fans going to the filming was unwelcome, and so a lot of us respected what seemed like their wishes and didn't even think about it. I also said that if it was not then it was a poor show (and I'll always stand by that - at least twenty of the boat people, really hardcore fans, have said the same or much stronger in private, like it or not). Beyond that I said some other stuff that is private, but of course 'merry Christmas' and 'thanks so much for what you gave us' and for the song and video :)
  18. My Dad needed his medicines picking up, so I had to hike to his home and then to the pharmacy, and then to the shops for him (but it seems England can't manage bread and milk after 48hrs of snow :inquisitive:) and then home again. It was quite a struggle, but it was an interesting trip and I met some really nice people. The countryside looked gorgeous (even if it didn't feel it!!) Your and Carla's common goal? I think it'd be to be Carla and Natascha, have fun, and watch out Coldplay!! :P Seriously though, I know you both, think you'd get along really well, both have a lot of power...and watch out Coldplay :P
  19. Hey guys, hope everyone's well, but it seems like a few have gone down with the Boat flu, get well soon!! Congrats Anna  Of course you're not intruding!! And you'll like it even more when Carla turns up with her whisky and ginger ale (what I'm drinking now after a 2.5 hour hike across country in the snow and ice earlier :drunkjoe:)!! And I think, if you and Carla ever get together...omg there will be fireworks (in a good way!!) Two forces of nature meeting with a common goal...Coldplay beware :P
  20. That all seems very wise indeed Chelsea :) I can say for sure also that ticket numbers are irrelevant.
  21. Paul, I'd like to say an incredible 'thanks' to you for your help, I'm sure it's been priceless. It is very, very kind of you to offer so much advice, how kind :) I'd also like to wish you the best of luck in getting tickets for the main show!! I'm sorry to say that it's unlikely you'll find any here because most here wouldn't have thought about an application for the main event, we were only brought to this by Coldplay.com, though if you never try you'll never know :) I'd love to hear your stories as a huge TotP fan (one burning question for me that you can perhaps answer is why you are such a big fan after your comments about sound quality and organisation?) In particular I'd love to hear if you've seen any of the performances I most remember. Martha's Harbour was one (I was a huge All About Eve fan). Stone Roses, Fools Gold - when they went from being the best-kept secret of the indie cognescenti to a national phenomenon in just five minutes. And another one for me was The Cure, Lullaby - my first time ever seeing the band on TotP, and with SUCH a non-TotP 'type' song - I think Robert Smith refused to 'sing'. And oh so many others. Again cheers, and good luck to you in getting the tickets you hope for :sunny:
  22. GREAT point!! I think (at least I like to hope :P) that that was in the back of my mind too when I didn't give it a 10 :)
  23. As if we didn't know it already, FIFA are an absolute joke. Russia and Qatar? There's got to be a huge amount of dirty money behind those winning bids...I can't wait to see the British press dig something up. I don't fancy either as a WC destination, Russia I'd like to visit again but the actual event's going to be an absolute disaster. Looks like Brazil 2014 will be the last World Cup I'll be attending until at least 2026 :o
  24. I voted 9 - almost perfect for a Christmas song. It's a bit too short - another verse and chorus and it'd be a 10.
  25. I think most fans already understand that what he says offers little or no genuine insight into things like this, don't they? For me, they clearly have no plan, and are just keeping going as long as they can/feel like it. It sounds like there was some discord after the last tour of the States, and I think it'll be at a moment like that at some point that they'll call it a day. It won't be planned, it'll just happen. :o Tsk tsk indeed!! That is a deliciously schizophrenic review - brilliant in itself, thanks for translating Anna!! :D
