Ignorance is the biggest consumer nowadays. Thats why bands like Good Charlotte are so popular.

there will never be an artist that everyone loves, because there are people who hate artists because everyone loves them.

its just that I've noticed a lot lately that people are starting to get more into the heavier side of music (punk, metal, etc), and a lot of them say that mellow music sucks, most of the time they mention coldplay, and say that they're whiny, depressing, etc. and this thread reminded me of it.

true, I was merely stating a point. If someone had said something in reference to my point, i would have quoted them

just because music is mellow and the lyrics are emotional, doesnt make the music depressing, whiny, and/or bad... and it doesnt necessarily mean that the singer is depressed if he's singing a song that sounds sad to a listener. Singers write about the past, or exaggerate feelings in music, because music enhances even the slightest inkling of a feeling, whether the feeling is in the past or present. For instance, if something bothered me a little bit, and I decided to write a sad song about it, and all of the sudden people started thinking I was whiny and disturbed and needed professional help and/or Vicodin, that would be blowing things way out of proportion. Sad songs are actually warming to me in a way. I feel relaxed and a lot of them even make me smile.
  16. ^7 its cool but it freaks me out because it looks like they're staring at me like they want to start a fight with me or something
  17. Hahah, i took the quiz, but I cant post the pic, its too dirty, there are 13 year olds here...
  18. I hope the same thing happens to rap and punk that happened to Disco, i hope and pray for that every day. other than that, artists (non-punk/rap) that I'd be glad to never hear again... Avril Lavigne Fred Durst / Limp Bizkit Godsmack Puddle of Mudd The Hilton Sisters (I know they're not artists, but they need to become unpopular, NOW!)

I agree that punk is awful talentless music, and Coldplay are genius, but I'm not going to shun Amanda, I'll just agree to disagree with her. Yeah, she's quirky and young, but werent we all at one point? Hell, I used to think Puffy was as good as it gets, lol... I was all about "I'll Be Missin You" I thought it was the best song ever. Its really not that big of a deal, but meh, I'm hungry, I'm going to go eat....

I dont listen to Coldplay that much really, but I do think they're a band with incredible talent, and one of the best bands out there today storming the charts. I'll never dislike them, no matter how big they get, as long as they stay true to the music. If you dislike them its not because of them, its because of how they make you feel, if you feel that they're whiny and too emotional, then thats your opinion, no one else should try to change it. As long as people dont jump the gun saying that they suck, because no one can judge a band's talent based on whether or not they personally like/dislike the music, a person can only state how that band's music makes the person feel. Yes, I agree that it does come as a shock, mostly because I thought you always loved them, and your posting rate says a lot too, but in the end its all about acceptance, I think any other band's forum would shun Amanda, but Coldplay fans are, for the most part, nice and accepting people.
  22. LOL... that reminds me of one time I turned a John Mayer song into a Mad Libs game, I took "My Stupid Mouth" and I had the audience name nouns verbs, etc, and when it was filled out, i sang it, and it ended up being "My Stupid Fallopian Tubes"
  23. I was six, thats my sister, i think she was 2 or 3 in the picture
