Haha, the same thing crossed my mind too.

Thoughts on the 'revealed' song names for the LP5.
I have to agree with most of what's been said, the song titles just come across as over dramatic and and unimaginative. I would definitely prefer short song titles, simply because they leave more to the imagination, and it would show that the band wants the music to speak for itself. But even with their previous long winded titles, such as 'God Put A Smile Upon My Face' and 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', they get away with it because they don't sound like cliches, and in my opinion, actually quite intriguing. I just think shorter song names sound more mature, especially with Coldplay (maybe that has something to do with why the album Parachutes is so respected even by non-fans). I like subtlety, and while I'm sure that 'Hurts Like Heaven' could be wonderfully touching and all that jazz, its title just makes it sound a little... cheap. I don't actually mind 'Up With The Birds' all that much, it sort of evokes a 'Strawberry Swing' type image. But the teardrop one is TERRIBLE. "Teardrops" sounds infinitely better - even something like 'Teardrop = Waterfall' or something equally pretentious sounding would be better in my opinion.

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
For a Christmas song I thought it was bloody good to be honest. It did have a festive sound and melody, but in my opinion it stood on it's own as one of the better songs they've written. I can see it getting into my top 20 favourite Coldplay songs quite easily. As I said in another thread, I think what makes this song great is Chris' voice - it's dynamic, quiet and loud in all the right places, and from what I can remember, the lyrics were great too. It's definitely a happy Coldplay song, and it's a lot more satisfying than 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'.

Letter from Phil Harvey: Dear Coldplaying...
This is really great of him. He didn't really have to justify himself to us, but it just goes to show how generous and kindhearted they actually are! :D As for the question. I didn't actually have anything prepared on the day, and if I were to ask anything, it would have most likely been inquiries about how best to get involved in the music video industry, who I could get into contact with etc. But seeing as this would have been far more appropriate to ask in person, I would be very happy to ask a question on someone else's behalf! So feel free to throw some ideas around, if I were one of the people who couldn't come I'd like to see a question get asked that a lot of people would be curious to get answered! :nice:

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
I thought it was SO good. Chris' voice is really dynamic in this one - it goes low like in Yes in some parts, high like in Fix You in others, and really loud near the end where things come together. As people have said, I wish they had better speakers, but the style of the song really reminded me of LiT 2 in terms of it's uplifting sound, but with more organic instrumentation. It's soaring, that's for sure.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
Ah that sounds cool. I could beat myself up over it, but, well, I ended up getting a bit drunk with three guys while having an in depth conversation about the evolution of Coldplay's music vs Radiohead's  so I guess it's all good :P Read Tonsu's post about the night - some good points there. It was set up to be something else entirely, and it didn't end up feeling like the once in a lifetime event I was expecting it to be. I'm just glad I didn't have to travel that far to get there, which is why I probably don't mind so much that it wasn't as great as it 'should' have been. But I can definitely see why those who had to travel from far away would be feeling slightly bitter about the unkept promises and such.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
It was good fun, trust me! Glad you got to meet Chris though, however brief it may have been - I wasn't up for the whole stalking charade after we left the boat for some reason :P

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
It was a very interesting evening indeed. I agree the best parts were mingling with other coldplayers there :nice:. My favourite part of the night was actually going back to the Anchor Tap to chill with new friends! But the event itself was pretty awesome, definitely. I have no complaints, even though I was half expecting the band to be on the boat with us, but that obviously wasn't the point of it all. If this thing with putting together an unofficial DVD of the day is still a project worth pursuing, I have footage of Butlers Warf and decents shots of tower bridge, a brief pan of the queue outside the Erasmus before climbing aboard, and most importantly, two classic karaoke performances from VivaLa Frida and Bonus_mosher! (with permission to post of course :P ) I will upload what I have to youtube tomorrow, if I can.

Viable footwear for the trek back to the Beehive at 10PM, where an LP5 listening party will take place and many beverages will be consumed. In all seriousness, I think it's just in case it rains. I was thinking of dressing smartly at first but I'm not sure how everyone else will be dressed.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
:wacky: Man I miss these smilies. I actually haven't seen what the boat looks like yet, interesting. I was toying with the idea of bringing my camera with me but thought it might be too much hassle. Then I read that people are planning to put together an unofficial DVD of the event so I may have to reconsider. If the boat is as big as I'm hearing then I could easily keep it in a backpack and store it away somewhere when I'm not using it. Hmmm.

Less than 48 hours until this becomes a reality. Crazy! Reading the first post it definitely sounds as if the band may be joining us.

I might be finishing an album soon. (Song Preview)
Hey guys! I'm probably about 6 months off finishing an instrumental EP/Album. I could actually compile a 6 track EP including the song below, as I have 5 other songs which are fairly up to scratch in terms of production and mixing, but I find myself constantly going back to tweak them every now and again... basically, I find it difficult to truly finish a song :P. I also have a habit of trying to remake older songs (some of which I posted here a few years ago) with shinier new production, but this actually takes me even longer than starting a new song from scratch. So for the few people here who have taken an interest in some of my music, I AM slowly getting somewhere, and I'll be sure to post a final product here first for whoever's interested to listen to for free :D Anyway, since I havn't posted anything in a while, here's the song I finished most recently, called Metamorphosis. It's just shy of being 7 minutes in length, so it's definately one of my longer ones. (only 192kbps MP3 for now, sorry ) http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/69746/Metamorphosis In terms of instrumentation its my most varied in a while, but I'm not sure if its as catchy as my last few (although it wasn't supposed to be super catchy in the first place). I guess you can say it's 99% done, because I'm always looking for suggestions and constructive criticism that help me improve my music. If you're interested to hear how it compares to my other recent songs, I can probably post a link to an online playlist if there's enough interest. I happen to think this isn't my best song, by quite a stretch, but I'm posting it because it showcases what sort of music I'm making at the moment fairly well. I have two recent songs called Catastrophe and Sunrise that I just like better, but I want to hold off posting those for now as I think they'll make more sense in the context of an album. Feel free to comment! I had another thread in which I posted samples of songs but it's title was misleading and it got quite cluttered, so I'll be updating this one from now on :D

I made a short music video - can I get some constructive criticism?
Sorry for digging up this old thread :P If anyone is interested, I've set up an account at Overplay.com where I plan to upload all my music & videos from now on! (www.overplay.com/semyingle) Right now I only have my newest song up there which is called Catastrophe, a fast-tempo 7 minute instrumental which is a little different from my previous music. I noticed that it's already been reviewed by someone who had this to say about it: "Catastrophe is a great track, it captured my attention for the whole 7 minutes and didn’t let go." If you like the song and would like to be the first to hear upcoming new material please register and become a fan! It beats having to dig up this thread once every few months :P I will be uploading some older tracks and 2 videos over the course of the day so I can hopefully make the page more substantial and interesting :nice: Anyway, thanks for listening! As always, any feedback and criticism is very welcome  - Semy

I'm starting to get really excited now. I LOVE 'spacey' stuff.

Everyone's going to HATE me for this...
About 90% of the footage was shot / created by me, yes. The time lapse of the stars moving across the sky and the clouds were free stock footage for which I acquired permission to use. Of course all the effects applied to that footage was done by me :nice: The sequence of orange coloured images near the start was actually just highly glorified, kaleidoscoped photos of my lounge  but it was fun to use such boring footage and try to turn it into something more visually interesting. Edit: And yes, the music is mine too.

Everyone's going to HATE me for this...
:cheesy: Cheers guys :P Sorry for posting it like that though... definitely wouldn't have done that if it wasn't a Friday night  EDIT: 4,200 posts. Hells yeah.

Everyone's going to HATE me for this...
... because I'm about to post this in the wrong section :P And because this song and video doesn't really resemble Coldplay that much either, but I'd still like some opinions :nice: Screenie: BTW I am a little er, tipsy, which is why I'm pretty certain right now that I'm going to get away with this, mwahahaha :wacky: Oooh and here's another song / video you guys might like that sounds a bit more like coldplay than the one above: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJHXnWRg5CM]YouTube- "Rain" - Original Song & Video 2010.mov[/ame] Love you guys :nice: nite nite

Around a month for the video, because there was quite a lot of different ideas I wanted to be realised in it. The song itself was written and recorded in february this year. Glad you like it :nice:

Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)
The visual representation of the new music is intriguing! They seem to be really dynamic, lots of loud and quiet parts. The waveform on the bottom row second from the right, is quite possibly a piano piece, or else something equally gentle and quiet. Notice the waveforms with more spikey edges (like the one on the top right hand side) are more likely to have an acoustic, stripped down feel. Which I'd love to hear more of. Also If each of these waveforms represent a whole song, it's interesting to note that a lot of them seem to avoid conventional song structure (verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus/outro), but we can only look at the dynamics as clues for this. For example the first one (on the left) seems to have the loudest part of the song halfway through, and then the second half switches to a more mellow mode. The second one from the right on the top row seems to be a Violet Hill type deal with a consistent loudness and a quiet outro (but without the intro), and the second one from the left on the bottom looks like it constantly builds and suddenly fades off at the end. PURE speculation on my part of course :P [/OVERANALYSIS] I loved the rest of the blog too, of course - the first part was the best, I agree. R#42 is SO much better at this than 'Prospekt' was.
