  1. Just a quick thread to say goodbye, and good luck to all members, old & new on this forum  This place felt a lot like home once. I made great friends here and had some interesting times because of it. I'm really glad this place is still alive; there were a few times when it could have all been shut down, but luckily was kept afloat by our wonderful webmasters :D. I'm sure we're all very grateful for them. I'll never forget this place. Anyway. Good luck everyone. I'm in the process of making some big decisions right now, and I hope that everyone out there who feels like they're at a crossroads in their life, will follow their intuition. Take a risk. Go with your gut. If something at the back of your head is telling you to make a change, your best bet is to just DO IT. Because it's probably for a very good reason, no matter how much of a dilemma you think it is. These are turbulent times, and the best any of us can do is nothing less than be the best example of who you are. Hope you guys enjoy the hug smiley for years to come :P Take care guys. n.a.f.e.h.t.t.i.h.o.t.t.u.o.b.a.s.i.t.i.h.s.e.h.t
  2. The trick is to isolate the left speaker, it easier to hear the words that way :P
  3. I enhanced the end part and to me it sounds like "Two of us, two of us, two of us...".
  4. Incredible song! This is the evolved Coldplay we've been waiting for :nice: I rated it a 9, it's just pure quality. But it really does beg the question as to why on earth they thought ETIAW was in any way shape or form superior to this? If this is left off the album in favour of ETIAW, it will be totally embarrassing. The band really need to start tightening their quality control, there really just isn't any excuse when they can clearly still produce amazing music.
  5. Just gave it a listen and it's the best of the three by far! Holy shit this is a good song :awesome: Really reminds me of Pink Floyd in some places!
  6. I don't think my explanation was far-fetched, it was merely my interpretation. If it sounded like I was making excuses for what is apparently a disappointing version of this song to a lot of people, that was not my intention. I can understand why a lot of people don't like the production though, I just personally don't mind the differences in the studio version, and both of them are pretty much equal in terms of quality IMO. Just a side note - I remember hearing most of Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' in the form of live recordings before it came out, and I thought nearly every single studio recording was a disappointment in comparison (apart from 'Nude' :P). So I understand where people are coming from. Its just that I personally don't see a huge gap between the live and studio recording in this case.
  7. I like the studio version for what it is. I was surprised by the sound of his voice like most other people here, but after a few plays I think it works pretty well. Someone in the other thread pointed out that the effect works in context of the subject matter and I agree - makes it sound like Chris is giving out a 'warning' through a megaphone or something, which I think is appropriate. Also I actually really like the atmospheric effects they used in this version, almost sounds like screaming toward the end - gives it a pretty creepy vibe, which I guess is exactly what they were going for. I do like some elements of the live version better, but this is crisp and well produced IMO. Bass sounds awesome, guitar has a nice crunch to it. And the whole song is basically the complete opposite of ETIAW, which is interesting because I thought Coldplay had turned uber-cheesy when that song was revealed :P. Yeah, that pretty much sums up how I feel about it too.
  8. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. The vocal melody really stood out to me the first time I watched the video, and because I love Bucket For A Crown and hoped it would make the last album I immediately noticed the similarity! This is a lot more synthy but I'm really looking forward to hearing a studio version of this one.
  9. I'm hoping that's the case too. I think Coldplay have gotten most of us into a habit of overthinking these things, and personally I'm not really seeing any compelling evidence that points towards Major Minus not being on the album, what with it's frequent appearance on their current setlist, and the "Major Minus Media" insignia on their jackets. Some of us got a bit panicky when ETIAW was revealed, but if that song got past quality control then I see no reason why Major Minus should have any less of a chance :P
  10. I really hope this ends up on the album regardless (I have an inkling it will, judging from the insignia they are wearing on their jackets, and the fact they've played it at every show so far), I'm thinking they're putting it out there early knowing that the album won't be out for a good while. Maybe they're just using the physical release of ETIAW as a means to do it, but I guess we're just going to have to wait and see. I'd be very disappointed if they left it off though, already a bit miffed that they consider ETIAW good enough to release as an actual single.
  11. You know, I think it sounds a lot like 'Bucket For A Crown'. I knew it reminded me of something.
  12. RunForTheHills replied to MrMagpie's topic in Major Minus
This new album is going to be really good I reckon. Really great evolution, MILES ahead of the single in terms of quality. If the title really was Major Minus, I would be thrilled. Makes me feel like a total douche for doubting them :P
  13. This one sounds great as well! I feel much better about the album after hearing these new ones
  14. THIS SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING Seriously words cannot describe. Totally agree - this proves that they still have that Parachutes sensibility in them, I'd love a whole album like this. I'll be honest, I was pretty much ready to give up on them after ETIAW was released, but this song really changes things. Up there with their best in my opinion.
  15. Hahaha the beginning was great  Love this song by the way! WAAAY better than ETIAW! Wow I can't stop listening to it  AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING Honestly, this is such a relief.
  16. Hear hear
  17. No I know, I'm a fan of poetic lyrics mostly, when they're done right. But there's a lot of imagery here that doesn't really hang together, even if some of the lines sound nice on their own . I guess I'm just not seeing the point of the song itself, if that makes any sense? I do think this is will be the most pop-sounding song on the album though, at least I'm hoping so :P
  18. It's the fact that the song doesn't even seem to be about anything, for me... and I think it's very telling that several people thought the teaser videos were revealing lyrics from different songs. They seem random and strung together. The way it's sung, too - it's almost as if Chris wrote the vocal melody (which isn't all that great for the most part) and then squeezed in the lyrics where he could... it doesn't sound like the lyrics were created as an emotional extension of the melody (does that make any sense?). I guess 'soulless' was a good description :\ Having said that, his voice seems to be on top form! I do like the parts towards the end where he's really belting it out. There is still hope for the album I think, but the song does make me think that they might be running out of steam. Really hope that isn't the case.
  19. I think it's OK, maybe it'll grow on me. I was hoping for a more stripped down sound like they were saying a few months back, and this is anything but. I do like the guitar parts though and the last minute or so. I agree that it's way too over produced, too much stuff going on at times. Not much to say about the lyrics that haven't already been said. All in all it's not that bad but compared to the other 'big' sounding songs of theirs, it's definitely missing something. Basically I'm hoping that the album has a little more depth and subtlety than this.
  20. We actually had a sane drug advisor (Professor David Nutt) here in the UK until 2009 when he was sacked for questioning the current 'The Misuse Of Drugs Act'. He published several studies on the social and physical harms of certain drugs. Interesting to see which one came out on top on this particular graph: Full paper here for anyone interested: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00638/Professor_Nutt_pape_638397a.pdf If alcohol and tobacco can be legal, then all drugs should be. There really isn't any excuse but of course the whole thing is driven by power, money and disinformation, as opposed to an evidence-based approach. The fact that a victimless crime is an arrestable offense should really tell you everything you need to know about how corrupt the law has become.
  21. Researching subjects such as these can be difficult when you have had governments and the media dictate what opinion they think you should have, for pretty much your entire lives. Freeing yourself from bias is a very important step to take if you want to truly understand the situation for how it is. Coldplay aren't forcing their views on the masses. It's up to the individual to discover what makes sense to them. What they are doing though is making people aware of a lesser accepted, alternative point of view through supporting a song. Which I think is a gentle but important way to get people who otherwise wouldn't bother themselves with such things, to at least take note and begin to question what's going on in the world.
  22. Quoted for truth. We really need more people like you.
  23. I personally don't think that the cost of new energy should trump the risk of another plant being damaged and subsequently leaking out radiation into our air and our water. The way Fukushima has been handled up until now has been beyond embarrassing and the fact that the US government didn't at the very LEAST warn people on the west coast to prepare for heightened levels of radiation, is sickening. Increased levels of radiation have been detected all over the northern hemisphere and I'm sorry to say that ANY radiation is harmful to virtually all life. Any event that causes yellow rain (pollen? my ass) is a huge disaster. And what a lot people don't want to admit is that this event has affected almost all of us already. Nuclear energy is risky because it has the ability to compromise the health the GLOBAL population if something goes wrong. One of the cores is leaking plutonium / uranium hybrid material, and plutonium has a half life of 24,000 years. Look it up. It's no thanks to incompetence & cover-ups that we're going to have to deal with a lot more health problems in our species' future. Really makes my blood boil when I hear idiocy such as here in the UK, where apparently we STILL want to press on with building new reactors. When will it end? And of course any move away from nuclear energy is going to be costly, because too few states have invested the proper amount of time and money looking into and developing alternatives. Germany being part of the EU is already a hindrance to their economy, and with places like the UK where the government insist on spending 6 million pounds a day to kill civilians in the middle-east, going on wild goose chases, toppling and propping up political leaders, etc... it's no WONDER people are anxious about the costs. Priorities need to change before anything sensible and constructive starts to get done on this planet, and unfortunately the way things are going, it's only going to get worse. The leaders of the world really need to start getting their shit together. [/end_rant]
