Big Day Out 2010
just read a report that dizzee rascal was almost bottled off at the gold coast bdo. i always thought that he was a very very bad choice for the main stage alongside lily allen. havent they seen the footage of what the infamous Reading Festival crowd did to G-unit with 50 cent a few years back. apparently lily forgot to wear pants on stage. bloody scouser. anyways back to talking about musicians. i went to see Rise Against last night at the Enmore in sydney and what a spectacular show it was. i admit that i only know a handful of their songs but that didnt really matter last night. ive been to quite a few gigs now and atmosphere-wise this was one of the best. for most of the glorious 75mins, the crowd drowned out the powerful vocalist in fits of passion and raw energy. feel like sacrificing a great spot at BDO for muse just to see them again!!

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
a little under 50hrs til i rock out with almost 60 000 of my fellow sydneysiders to muse. im beginning my countdown officially now ( i went to see another band last night so couldnt do it until now) including full appreciation of their albums (maybe a skim through the Resistance lol) and live shows and a handful of bootlegs. watsername, very happy you got to meet the boys and God bless Triple J. muse would still be unknowns down here if it hadnt been for those guys flogging their music since early 1999.

Big Day Out 2010
bad news regarding the channel v coverage. it will begin at 3pm on saturday and will finished at 8pm, well before powderfinger or muse hit the stage. unless they are recording the show from the night before and just broadcasting that.

Vampire Weekend
tonight on Triple J Radio in australia. there is a broadcast of Vampire Weekend's invite only show at Notes- Enmore in Sydney held last November. it starts at 8pm Sydney Time and should go for about an hour. http://www.triplej.net.au

Big Day Out 2010
ive got a crazy hectic week ahead. rise against tomorrow BDO friday and long work days everyday before and after BDO. on top of that i've got a viral infection which just wont go away. add to that 37C temps on the day. look out for me in those articles in the paper the day after BDO outlining how many people were arrested and how many were hospitalised. not sure which section i will fall under.

Big Day Out 2010
a couple of issues 1. just checked out the Bureau of Meteorology forecast for friday's BDO in sydney. the forecast for west sydney (which is where the BDO is held) is a max of 37C. its gonna be a long hot sweaty day!! 2. i really hope channel V do a good job of broadcasting the 100th BDO on saturday. im hoping a full LIVE broadcast of muse, powderfinger and the mars volta's performances . instead of crappy "highlights" throughout the night.

seeing them in 5 days!!! woooooooooooooo

Vampire Weekend
by the sounds of things the general consensus is that its a good album but not as good as the debut. i think expecting an album as good as the debut is setting the bar a little too high. the fact that people are still loving the album is a really good sign.

HELP WITH MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION: LISTEN TO A NEW ALBUM EVERY DAY!
personally i dont think this is the right way to go about discovering great music. i've never been a fan of listening to music systematically, it takes the soul out of the whole experience. i discovered most of my favourites out of the pure chance so in turn my interest in every band has an unique story behind it. im not saying the plan should be totally abandoned but sooner or later you will realise that there will be some records that you will become addicted to and wont really feel like listening to anything else for days afterwards.

The White Stripes
im starting to get over his weirdness, its slowly creeping into "annoying" territory. but the fact that it only takes him 2 weeks to record a classic album keeps things interesting
-
New 21 yo Artist, Jonathan Boulet
seen him live a couple of times. he was a support act so couldnt completely appreciate his work. i know he writes and plays every instrument but he doesnt come across as being the most talented in the band. the girl who does keys and harmonies for him at live shows is by far the stand out in the band hows the debut LP? didnt get around to listening to it

Metallica
that looks like a rather short setlist for a metallica show. how long is the DVD? they've extended their world tour into april 2010. is that the end or is there a chance they do a few more shows, hopefully down in australia. its been 6 long years since they last toured here.

Grammy Nominees!
bono has been having trouble getting it up lately. the grammys arent impressed. they've replaced him with lady gaga who does a much better job and can at least keep it up.
