spent most of my day listening to albums 16-25 on my list. trying to decide where to put them. its starting to take shape now.

these guys played their first every gig in april. by august they were known all over the indie music world. some bands toil away for years and years before they get any sort of recognition. these guys got it in a matter of weeks. i think the fact they're from Brooklyn has alot to do with it. nonetheless. absolutely loving these guys. look forward to a LP.

is Wolfgang their best record? if so, whats second?

^^ yeah i must admit i agree with you. most of my favourite bands i can listen to all day every day but not muse. and listening to their first two albums lately has really turned me off BHAR (bar a few awesome songs) and Resistance. i think muse make a much more rougher edgier style of music compared to coldplay and u2 which makes it harder to listen to them non-stop. can people see muse still going in 15-20yrs time? they've enjoyed such incredible success at such a young age it will be very interesting to see where they go as the music industry evolves.

^^ personally not a big fan of the whole track v track analysis of any album. it should be about how the record makes you feel as a whole. both albums were very "single" heavy so that sort of messes around with the experience of listening to the albums because some songs you've heard a million times on the radio whereas others you only hear when you put on the album.

yeah my only complaint is about best rock album. otherwise i think empire of the sun and ladyhawke deserve to clean up. and wtf with the presets winning another aria. they havent done anything for 18 months! is anyone here a bertie blackman fan? i honestly cannot get into her but she seems to be fairly popular on both the alternative and mainstream scenes. i would say that after this ARIA win she would be in contention for the J Award also.

im surprised the killers were given the saturday night spot. i dont think any band in history has held that spot after releasing only 2 albums. it might not have looked that great on paper but the performance itself was stunning and worthy of a glastonbury headline spot. still cant wait for the day Arcade Fire headlines glasto.

i need another 5 days. top 13-14 is looking good. but its 14 through to 25 is really sketchy. im finding new albums all the time that im finding it hard to factor into my list.

^^ both of those bands are massive rip offs. but i think Jet fit the "shameless" description much more than Wolfmother who at least have alot of respect in the rock industry. and i think wolfmother have got their own thing going with this new album.

a band 30years past their peak is not the best rock band in the country. its a bad reflection of our current music scene.

im going to have to sit on the fence with this one. for me you cannot get two more closely matched albums then the two mentioned. suggestion to mods. can we change the name of this section of the forum to "The World of Music vs Coldplay". cos thats virtually what this place has turned into.

say what you want about muse. they are still by far the best live band in the world and with so many years ahead of them who knows what they will achieve. and i can almost guarantee you in 15-20years time some other smart arse music journo will wrte an article about the same thing. and it will be some young new band being called "Shameless Muse Rip Off Band". its just how the music world goes round.

does anybody know why its a on thursday night? late night shopping night 5 weeks before christmas. school term hasnt finished. always been on a sunday night........ J Award is handed out in a weeks time. alex, would love to hear your tip for best album. well i would love to hear everyone's tips. im throwing my weight behind Lisa Mitchell, if not her it will be Sarah Blasko but there's no clear front runner this year. none of the albums have produced multiple hits like The Presets did last year as did the respective winners in the previous years. the only impact we've had on an international level has been the temper trap with a song that came out last year. lets hope 2010 is a better year. big expectations from debuts records by Dead Letter Circus and Tame Impala and John Steel Singers. new album from John Butler Trio and Midnight Juggernauts.
