of course awards ceremonies are shitty. they all are! but its a great stress reliever watching them and screaming and hurling abuse at them. i always feel better after the grammys. my egocentric music side gets a massive boost :D

i cant imagine the rolling stones playing second fiddle to U2 ie being below them on the bill or even co-headlining with them. but it will be quite the event if the stones do accept the headline spot on sunday night.

ok im ready to give my thoughts before i start i should explain the situation. sydney football stadium. 40 000 fans. 43 degree heat. bushfire smoke turning the sky murky grey. eddie vedder down with a serious flu. apologies and promises to give it his all. im not going to dwell usual crap of "oh great show" "love this loved that" blah blah blah. for me going to see pearl jam was always going to be a very emotional and somewhat spiritual experience. i discovered this band at a very low point in my life and things really turned around for me in the months i spent discovering their music and what they were all about. as i learnt more and more about the band eddie sort of become an inspiration for me but i've never quite been able to justify my admiration. but after my experience last night i can. i wasnt close enough to see eddie's face properly but looking at the big screens i could tell the man was suffering from the flu compounded by the heat. the performance he gave was the best performance i have ever seen from a frontman. i'm certain that 90% of bands would of pulled out saying their frontman wasnt fit enough. but not my beloved PJ, for 130mins and 28 songs they fought the elements and delivered a stadium sized spectacular. i didnt quite feel the emotion while i was watching them play. but it kinda hit me this morning. the band could of easily done half a set and gone home. but instead we got countless jam sessions, incredible solo after solo from mike, mankind from stone and jeff jumping around like a maniac. i now know exactly why this band is an inspiration to me. the crowd around me was prety subdued but i didnt give a damn. i bounced up and down for most of the two hours cos eddie told us to give him all our energy and sing as much as we could. so i did my best. i know most of you wont read the whole thing so here's a summary lol. yes the setlist was incredibly short (by PJ standards) yes it was stinking hot. yes they didnt play most of their big songs. but it was special show. a show and night i will never forget. EDIT: Light Years was dedicated to a couple whose first child was still born two weeks ago.

thats so similar to my current list it's scary. i'm going to hand write my top 25 tonight. then think about it for a little bit before posting it up here.

i know you guys wanted a review of the show but i dont think words quite describe what i experienced last night. but i'll try to write up something when i get back from work.

i'm off to the show now!! fingers crossed for Porch and Rockin in the Free World. and i hope the heat doesnt dampen the energy levels inside the stadium.

going to see the boys tonight!!!! CANT WAIT temperatures are above 42C/106F today in sydney so its going to be a scorcher and they are also predicting late storms so that will make things very interesting. hoping for a setlist something like what melbourne (34 songs including my top 10) enjoyed but since it is an open air show curfews will apply so i cant expect some mega long setlist.

they could of done without kelly clarkson and britney

isnt it true for fans almost any band. like i mentioned im a member of a handful of other forums. and i would say that cping is relatively sane compared to them. im sure if you go over to at ease they would be spewing over radiohead not being 1,2, 3 and 4 and The Eraser being 5.

it's quite incredible the response this list has received. i'm a regular contributor on 3 or 4 other music forums and discussion about this list has been at the top of every board. love em or hate em, there's little doubting that NME is the most popular music magazine in the world right now, at least it's the one that gets the most attention.

^^ i know sydney has 55 000 at each show. and i think melbourne upped their capacity to 55 000 last year. not too sure about the other cities. i know that sounds quite small compared to the european and american festivals but they tried to increase it to 70 000 one year and apparently it was just chaotic. here are some cool stats from the BDO site. http://www.bigdayout.com/history/pastbdofestivals.php

Daft Punk Tour Dates Leaked A source close to the band has leaked Daft Punk’s proposed tour dates for 2010, including dates in Melbourne and Sydney. The duo have been off the road for a while now, but sure have a hell of a show to top for their next world trip. The tour is proposed to kick off at Le Zénith in Paris, France on July 30, 2010 and will take them through to Manchester, UK on September 6. The Melbourne shows are penciled in for August 22 in Sydney and 28 in Melbourne. The last time they were in Australia was December 2007. i think The Strokes have always had a bad relationship with the media. so thats always going to count against them in these sorts of lists. then again NME cant hate them that much if they're going to put them at no.1 i do really like this list but the blaringly obvious omission (franz S/T and rush of blood both albums of the year in their respective years) and inconsistencies like the one bjaiken mentioned does detract from its credibility. this list pretty much sums up the stuff NME has been pushing over the last decade and i have no problem with that at all, they've given incredible exposure to some great acts.

Alex Turner played a surprise set tonight (November 19) at the Mencap Little Noise Sessions. Taking place at Islington Union Chapel the Arctic Monkeys man performed a seven-song set which featured two new untitled songs. Turner's set also included the Arctic Monkeys hits 'Fluorescent Adolescent', 'Secret Door' and current single 'Cornerstone'. Accompanied by a keyboardist, Turner was also joined on stage by his bandmate Jamie Cook who played on the tracks 'Secret Door' and 'Cornerstone'. Headlining the event was Richard Hawley whose set featured the songs 'Born Under A Bad Sign', 'Serious', 'Open Up The Door', 'Ashes On The Fire', 'For Your Lover Give Some Time' and a cover of Elvis Presley's 'Crawfish'. Later in the set Hawley then brought back on Alex Turner introducing him as "The lizard of lounge," before the pair played the Arctic Monkeys song 'Only Ones Who Know'.

i actually thought koshy was ok. at least he took the time to talk Ezra for a few moments and he isnt totally off with the Sting comparison but Neil Finn is the more obvious one. and yeah i came across out of pure luck, havent watched Sunrise in a good 4 or 5 years, the one of channel 9 is relatively more bearable. hey dont worry too much. if they dont do sideshows now. it means that we are all but guaranteed more shows later in the year. you should go check out a couple of others bands using the money you would of spent on seeing muse.

the boys were on Sunrise (TV equivalent of 2day fm or foxfm) this morning and naturally they performed Horchata which i thought sounded excellent. one of the hosts when interviewing Ezra afterwards noted how very different and unique they sound and that answered a question that ive been asking myself for a very long time, that is, why didnt vampire weekend's tracks top the charts around the world cos to me they are clean sweet melodic pop done to perfection. but i guess the mainstream music audience finds them to be fairly left field. footage from tv performance coming soon.
