  1. im sick of studying so im going to double post. Worldwide sales of The Resistance. according to http://www.unitedworldchart.de Week 1 - 479 000 Week 2 - 180 000 Week 3 - 118 000 Week 4 - 89 000 To Date - 866 000 copies approx.
  2. im not too fussed about what songs they play. but here is the mix i would like (not that i think it will ever happen) and my ideal songs off each record but yeah doesnt bother me if they get played or not. Showbiz- 2 songs (Cave and Muscle Museum) OoS - 5 songs ( New Born, PIB, Citizen, Micro Cuts and Meglomania) Absolution - 4 songs (SS, TIRO, B+H and Apocolypse Please:P) BHAR - 4 songs (Knights of Cydonia, Supermassive, Assassin and Starlight) Resistance - 6/7 songs. (whatever) Total - 22 songs in the past theyve usually played 17/18 songs. so jumping to 22 is pretty significant but it would be awesome.
  3. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK3fGDYw_zw]YouTube - cut off your hands- happy as can be[/ame] awesome awesome song!
  4. sideshows are the same as a full concert. the only difference being a "full concert" is when the band is on their own tour (not attached to any festival) whereas a sideshow happens when a band goes on a festival tour like the big day out but play their own seperate shows in most cities called sideshows. i know its a little confusing especially cos the concept of a sideshow and festival tour is pretty unique to australia. you will get a better understanding once they announce the dates. if you want a good example check out muse's tour schedule for January 2007 when they did the big day out tour. http://muse.mu/tour-dates/archive/2007/1/ where would they play? the last 4 or 5 headliners of the big day out have done their side shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. but i think Muse is big enough to do a show at Acer Arena. we'll just have to wait and see. anyone brave enough to predict a setlist for this tour? which songs will they keep from previous tours? can we expect a couple from Showbiz?
  5. its hard to predict when they will announce their BDO sideshows but hoping its still a few weeks away, i cant afford anymore distractions. but if you're in either brisbane, sydney or melbourne you're guaranteed at least one sideshow, either the day or two before or after your local BDO (so for sydney they are playing BDO on 22/1 and 23/1 so their side show will most probably be on the 20th) in the JMag article matt promised a tour at the end of 2010 where they are most likely to play the bigger venues. so you're looking at november or december in those big arenas coldplay played.
  6. ^^ you wont be there so i'm pretty stoked about that.
  7. slow down alex. these people only have 2 ears.
  8. ok then. i will change the title but i have no issues with people talking about NZ bands. another little thing i'll have on this thread are Live at the Wireless announcements. next week on Monday at 8pm we have PHOENIX live at Sydney's Enmore Theatre from late July. lets hope for a full 1hr recording. Repeated as always on Sunday's at 5pm. also, been digging the new juggers song. really awesome!
  9. ^^ or they become aussie once they start writing good music. how about i change back to old title. but we still talk about kiwi bands?
  10. thats howyousawtheworld. be nice to him. he is a little special.
  11. how about we combine the two? fair?
  12. sorry to sound very rude. but im extremely busy with uni at the moment. but i will quickly give you the best way to download them yourself in decent mp4 quality. 1. find all the videos on youtube. they played the following songs. all are available. Life In Technicolor Yellow Lost Clocks Viva La Vida You're The Voice (With John Farnham) Fix You 2. download this program "Youtube Downloader HD" http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com 3. Copy and paste the youtube links into the program. choose the quality level you would like the videos to be in. download or 4. try and look in the multimedia section of this forum. im sure you will find something PM if you have any problems.
  13. ^^ i dunno mate. Phil looks pretty nuts too. :laugh3:
  14. yeah im thinking about getting it. but they've included on a few presets songs and a couple of wolfmother songs and loaded it with the crappy acts. and plus i recorded the entire thing onto dvd anyways. so ive basically got it lol.
  15. how do we know that was Thom's idea?
  16. yeah im with you on this. but sometimes you need a gentle hand on the shoulder instead of an all night romp  thats when the xx come in. :D
  17. re: miller heidke i remember the kinda weird song she did about 3 years ago that was popular cant say ive heard much of her since. what has she changed to suddenly become so commercially viable. the albums charts at the moment are pretty ok. muse, pearl jam, barnsey and farnsey arent too bad. i looked up the pommy (the english for the non aussies reading this) charts expecting a very impressive top 10 but aside from falling in love with Sweet Disposition a good 12 months after it became popular here, its just as bad as ours.
  18. going from alex's list. here are my fave songs from these artists. im with him on some. Rock/Pop Bernard Fanning - Wish You Well or Songbird Crowded House - Dont Dream Its Over, Weather With You Eskimo Joe - Older Than You and Sweater Evermore - Its Too Late JET - Look What You've Done and Shine On Pete Murray - Better Days or Opportunity Powderfinger - These Days and Passenger Electronic/Pop Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours (the full album is a must listen, just ask briggins) Empire Of The Sun - Half Mast and Without You Midnight Juggernauts - Ending Of An Era or Shadows The Presets - Are You The One and If I Know You Sneaky Sound System - Pictures Indie/Alternative Sparkadia - Too Much To Do or Jealousy The Temper Trap - Fader and Science of Fear Wolfmother - Minds Eye and White Unicorn Youth Group - Catching And Killing or Shadowland Yves Klein Blue - Getting Wise and Make Up Your Mind i think thats a pretty good wrap up of the best and most popular stuff going around at the moment. maybe in a few weeks i'll start bringing up some of the more obscure acts.
  19. i think australia is one of the few countries in the world where the boys have never had a number one album. their last 3 or 4 have all reached no.2 i think.
  20. yes that is true. but its the best measure of whats the most popular. you look at the charts from 10 years it ago it would of been dominated by crap rock songs rather than crap hip hop rnb songs.
  21. if i had to make that choice i would...............actually i dont even want to think about it.
  22. Pez, Horroroshow, Downsyde, The Herd, Drapht, Muph & Plutonic and Urthboy have all had massive success on the alternative scene in the last couple of years and i wouldnt be surprised if some of those names become mainstream in a few years time. but its not just the local scene im talking about. look at the current charts. in the top 10 right now you have david guetta akon black eyed piss (or is it peas not sure) cascada jay z and rhianna. and the highest charting aussies are guy sebastian and jessica mauboy. rock is almost no where to be seen. the highest ranking legit rock song is She's a Genius by Jet at 25. i dont want to ruin the positive vibe of this thread. but i have to get this out there. i am ashamed to live in a country where a 'thing' like Pink is able to go 9 times platinum while a truly brilliant local talent like Sarah Blasko can only go Gold. its a f$)#ing disgrace.
  23. yeah every few months they have a special deal with subscriptions. thought i would get started with the youtube clips [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phZNmfGaqkw]YouTube - Dappled Cities - "The Price"[/ame] these guys did very well for themselves on their second album Granddance, which got a very very good review on Pitchfork. their new record Zounds is just as good if not better, The Price is the lead single from it. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RowAc-H3EM]YouTube - Lisa Mitchell - Neopolitan Dreams[/ame] i must admit i am madly in love with this girl and have been for a couple of years. when she was 16 she came 6th on Australian Idol after that she went off to london for a couple of years and got some very good contacts. after a couple of awesome EP's she has brought out her debut record Wonder. and now everyone is in love with her, and the reviewers arent just kind cos shes soo very cute. there is some very solid music on this album. Neopolitan Dreams was the first single and appeared on a previous EP. people have criticised her for sounding very "familiar" but she is only 19 so she has a long way to go.
  24. Robin Pecknold put it perfectly in the liner notes to the Fleet Foxes debut album i'll paraphrase "you can read a book, watch a movie or watch tv and never forget that you are still sitting inside four walls. but when you listen to music it instantly transports you to a different place or time in your life" then he goes on talk about how the music chooses where it takes you, its out of your control.
  25. ^^ yeah radiohead seem to be the masters of the closing track. which is why they'll most probably go down as one of the best "album" album bands ever. pearl jam are also great with it. Release off Ten Indifference off Vs Around the Bend off No Code
