Gaslight Anthem!!!
59 sound was exactly like a Killers song. i remember it came out a few months before the killers new album and i thought it was the new killers song before the DJ back announced it as the Gaslight Anthem. ive gone on to check out some of their other stuff and its nothing like the 59 sound song. much heavier and punkier. but nonetheless a decent band.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
i am willing to bet anything that in 25years time not many people will remember vlv, they will remember rush of blood and in rainbows. and i'm also certain that 95% of the people who voted for vlv became fans after the release of X&Y and therefore never truly felt the impact rush of blood had on the music scene both mainstream and alternative. i'm tipping coldplay will take home 3 awards. which 3 i'm not sure. they're not a shoe in for any of their nominations, there's good competition in all 7 categories. but i'm sure the grammys will reward coldplay for their success over the last 9 or so years with a few awards.

Which song will Radiohead play at the Grammys?
^^ i stil think Exit Music would be the coolest and get the biggest reaction. and how about Street Spirit haha!! or even better 2+2=5 with a huge pic of Bush in the background.

2009 albums worth hearing
Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You this is being released this weekend but i've had the pleasure of hearing about 80% of the album. its still cheap bubblegum pop just like her first album but like Alrght Still, its filled with hilarious tongue in cheek lyrics and great electro beats and rhythms. her songwriting is just as good as it was 2years ago and she does a great job of hiding her vocal inabilities. this is the type of album you need to let yourself go a bit when you listen to. if you can do that its a great listen.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
regardless of who wins it won't change anyones opinion on any of those albums. and i'm starting to believe more and more everyday that plant/krauss will take it out. and i'm not saying that because its the most "grammy" like album in the list rather because its a solid record made by two of the most talented vocalist in music history. and lets not forget Krauss has won 21 grammys already (one off stevie wonders and U2's record) so obviously the voting commitee like her and from what i've heard and read its supposed to be her best release to date. so my money is on Raising Sand and lets hope we get some Black Dog on the night. :)

Kaiser Chiefs
i think the band would be much better of doing alot more touring than they usually do. instead just stopping and going on hiatus. their good run was eventually going to run out. it seems like most bands are struggling to pull off solid 3rd albums. the killers lost alot of support after Day & Age. in my opinion coldplay's 3rd was their weakest. same with interpol, oasis and a handful of australian acts. i don't know the reason but i hope that alot of my favourite bands who are approaching their 3rd release dont follow the trend. the arctic monkeys, arcade fire and Jet.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
^^ thats the funny thing about in rainbows. there is no such thing as an "illegal" version. the band basically gave it away for free. i'll fess up and admit that i bought In Rainbows for $0.00 and i was soooo impressed by it that i bought The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A all within the next week. and then Hail to the Thief a few months later. its no.3 on my list of fave radiohead albums. first OK then bends then rainbows. In Rainbows is my favourite out of the nominated albums. but i dont mind if robert plant wins.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
^^ very well put. the music world woke up no different the morning after vlv came out. but the release of In Rainbows will go down as one of the most significant in music history.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
what is there to hate about other peoples opinions. if you like vlv just as much as parachutes then good for you. but alot of us don't and there is nothing wrong with that. and i think you've outlined exxactly why alot of people prefer in rainbows to vlv. lost is the worst song on the album but when it comes to in rainbows most of us would struggle to pick out a song that we don't like. at least i would. radiohead's latest is near perfect whereas vlv isn't quite on the same platform.

if it was upto me Lupe would make a clean sweep of the Rap categories.

BONNAROO 2009
pretty decent line up. The Mars Volta will tear it up for sure. so will Nine Inch Nails. but this is nothing on last years line up which included Metallica, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket (full 4hr show), Raconteurs, Sigur Ros, Death Cab For Cutie and loads of other bands. in my opinion Bonnaroo is the ultimate festival. simply because its not really your regular festival. unlike most of them every band does a full concert regardless of where they are in the line up. and there is strong emphasis on jam bands who are always fun to watch at a festival. glastonbury might have the atmosphere but bonnaroo has the style.

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
i always wonder how long it will take people to realise that music is subjective. there is no right or wrong. good or bad. best or worst. just because an album wins a grammy doesnt make it the best, heck it doesnt even mean its good. all it means is that most of the few hundred people who voted like the album. we can all have our opinions. i know i have my fair share, theres about 5 of them on this page alone. but insulting someone based on their views is senseless and immature. and belongs in the coldplay section of the forum

Grammy album of the year 09 (who you want to win/who you think will win?)
the grammys would never give the one genre the best album award two years in a row. so that rules out nothing since the previous winner was a Jazz album. year before was country so that hinders Robert Plants chances, year before that was Rock so that might hurt coldplay (even though ne-yo's album is closer to rock than viva la vida is). so that leaves the rnb of ne-yo, lil wayne's rap and altnernative sounds of Radiohead. i'm saying Radiohead should win it. but Lil Wayne will win it. as the grammys make a desperate reach to the new generation of music fans. anyone who thinks Tha Carter III is the best rap album ever quite obviously has never heard Kanye West's Late Registration or College Dropout. or even Lupe Fiasco's Food& Liquor

what do people think of Lenin?

Fleet Foxes
^^ well last night was Bloc Party, next monday is MGMT, the monday after should be The Kooks and then Fleet Foxes so i'm guessing 23rd of Feb at the earliest. they have Franz Ferdinand gig lined up also so that might come first.

The Decemberists
just heard one a song of the upcoming album this morning on the radio. absolutely blown away by the quality of the lyrics. the DJ explained the concept behind the album although i dont remember exactly what it is she said something along the lines of a monster and the characters lover.

COACHELLA 2009
wow talk about Killers getting murdered!! i think the killers lost their festival-ability with Day&Age. but there is a history of the main saturday headliner being announced at a later date. i'm still tipping Green Day to make a return at Coachella. when is Bonnaroo announced?

The Coldplayer's Favourite Sophomore (Second) Album Poll - Voting ends the 6th Feb
will Rush of Blood to the Head be eligible for the list? because it seems a little wrong to have them in there considering this is a coldplay forum.

Which song will Radiohead play at the Grammys?
i voted for HOC but i want them to do Exit Music cos thats what they wanted to do in 98 and weren't allowed to. i would love to see everyones reaction as Thom sings " we hope you choke" :)

Elbow
listened to their cover of the U2 classic Running to a Stand Still and its brilliant!! U2 made a very good choice in having Elbow cover it. its been all over the radio down here in aus and deservedly so. i hope they do it at the Sydney V Festival next month

Will you watch the Grammys this year?
i think it should be made very very clear that the actual Grammys broadcast has little to do with whose nominated and who wins. and the grammy organisers realise that which is why less than 10 awards are handed out in the 3.5hr ceremony. its meant to be a showcase of the "best" performers going around at the moment and with the likes of McCartney, Grohl, Radiohead, Coldplay, Plant, U2 and undoubtedly a surprise guest they come very very close to doing just that.

Fleet Foxes
i was up at around 1:30am last night and decided i will listen to Sun It Rises then go to bed. i ended up listening to the entire album :)
-
Arcade Fire
just heard Lenin and i must admit i'm very impressed. i would be very surprised if we dont get a new album from them by year end.
