in normal english that translates to "tour europe and north america and fuck the rest"

Kanye West!
^^ he is completely right. america does produce a far greater number of big bands. but the greats are pretty much all british ie. rolling stones, led zeppelin, pink floyd, the who, the beatles, radiohead, queen and U2 (irish but close enough)

oh wow that is awesome!!!! the fall out from the arias is almost always on the negative. but ive never seen a reaction like this before. the only two positives that have come out of it would be Washingtons performance and julia stones speech.

http://www.thevine.com.au/blog/clembastow/an-open-letter-to-the-aria-awards-and-fremantle-media20101109.aspx i think grace is right. ch9 did show it in 2009 and now the rights have been given to ch10. personally i wouldnt mind if the arias next year were a low key event held INSIDE the opera house. with no one trying to be funny, no international guests (exceptions made for members of radiohead) and no fucking politicians (regardless of how "independent" they are) did tame impala perform on the night? did cloud control perform? i think i mentioned a few pages back that together i think they had 8 nominations.

well i guess triple j did "discover" them so its only natural they hype em regardless of quality. werent they called something else originally and they changed their name? from i hear this is the last year ch10 has the rights to the show. i might be wrong.

dont forget yourself grace!! i watched triple j presents the temper trap today. a great recording of a great young band. i couldnt help but wonder if this was triple j kinda saying "sorry guys for not featuring your great debut album and consequently making it ineligible for a J award nomination" staying on the triple j theme. here is a great tweet from Kingsmill on aria night. "i predict Temper Trap will win an ARIA in 2011 for Sweet Disposition. maybe "Best Single across 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011" :laugh3: if the ARIA awards had simply taken all the most well known FM radio presenters, music channel/show presenters and some old school aussie rockers to present all the awards on the night it wouldve been so much better. and where were the two funniest guys in the country!! hamish and andy! they wouldve hosted the shit out of the arias! sorry to keep on about this but i was so ashamed of our music scene on sunday night :(

yeah feel free to start talking about it. i'll join in, in a couple of weeks when im done with exams. actually i'll be at my laptop a lot over the next few days so i might keep an eye on it. the only reason i can think of for not starting the discussion is if there are any major releases we're still waiting on. it would also be great if we come up with a winner before the J Award is handed down. triple j has 3 more albums to feature before the end of ausmusic month, will be interested to see what they come up with. this weeks is a Finn brothers compilation which kinda gives the impression they're getting a little desperate. also has anyone else heard the Julia Stone solo album? The Memory machine it's called. ive taken a couple of listens and i was rather impressed, not quite the quality of A+J Stone work but it does have a sweet vibe to it although her constant stories about being "the other woman" can be a little irritating. and has anybody listened to the John Steel Singers debut? speaking of debut. it was hilarious at the arias when jess mauboy pronounced debut as "dee-butt" LOL! Unearthed Band of the Year noms + The Jezabels + Big Scary + Gypsy & The Cat + Boy & Bear + Stonefield Boy & Bear to win, no arguments. and finally we need to decide on who will be on our "panel" for album of the year. hate to sound elitist but we need informed judges.

my opinion on birds of tokyo. debut had some great moments. sophomore is one of my favourite aussie rock albums ever. and i would rather watch paint dry than listen to their 3rd album.

lol@ emma im a disappointed that powderfinger didnt do a classic. if this was just another ARIAs for them then i would understand. but this (might be) is their last ARIAs so would it really have hurt if they did On My Mind or My Happiness. i heard that when bernard came on "stage" (was there even a proper stage?) to accept their award he said "so what did we win???" LOL ch10 got hammered in the ratings. agatha christie on abc had TWICE as many viewers last night. and they were also broadcasting 30mins delayed! drum media were announcing the winners well before it was on tv. i believe this is ch10's last time doing the arias? i bloody well hope so, they disgraced our wonderful music scene last night. i know im sounding like some old talkback radio host but last night was A JOKE!!

it wasnt so much who won and lost. it was the way show was organised and how it panned out. the presenters were just a bunch of D-listers. the hosts were embarassing. the setting was beautiful but chaotic. it completely lacked in class and sophistication. i love aussie music as much as the next person (this i believe is my 400th post on this thread :D) but i was ashamed last night.

ARIAs broadcast = fail. our beloved indie artists look so awkward and out of place. our much hated mainstream celebrities look so stupid and....well stupid. the arias have undone all the great work they did with naming such a great list of nominees with presenters and a guest list who have little or nothing to do with australian music.

Kanye West!
i dunno. sounds a little generic to me. not quite at the standard kanye has set for himself over the last couple of months. this is release no.17 since Power ft Dwele back in august i think? and the 12th in the GOOD Friday series. i cant remember the last time a solo artist has been this productive in one year. a full album, a shitload of extra tracks, a full album w/jay-z, a 40min film, his usual quota of collaborations with kid cudi, nicki minaj et al and that mega hit with Stromae, Alors on Danse. have i forgotten anything?? and it's not like he is some pop star who rocks up to the studio sings/raps the lyrics put before him for a few takes then walks out. he writes, records and produces everything. his ego and attitude will continue to piss me off but his ingenuity is impressive.

The 2012 Motor Racing Thread (F1 & More)
maybe if red bull had shown him the respect he deserves, it wouldnt have reached this point. they've treated him like a second rate driver for most of the season even though he has lead the world championship for a large part of the year. him and vettel will be started from 3rd and 2nd respectively with some guy with a long name on pole. i fear that their rivalry might get in the way and one of them will do something stupid (most probably vettel) race starts at 3am sydney time :( so im just going to hope for some good news when i wake up in the morning.
