Anyways, I think anyone who wants to read into the concept aspect of the album too much (read: make up a story where one doesn't really exist) will be able to come up with something about two people blah blah. In my mind, there is a minimalist framework for a story, which really isn't any different than the albums most musicians make. Its about two people finding each other, the being in love part never really hits it home though (Chris has said Us Against the World is more for the band, although it reads as the most obvious love song), and then falling apart and maybe making it back together. That said, that really is all we get. I knew before the album dropped the concept aspect would be as fuzzy as ever. Clear stories are hard to tell on albums anyways, unless someone is really willing to keep to it. And I can't imagine how hard that would be when you consider how hard it is to write music already. I don't blame the band for it, but a concept album is usually more defined. This one could be any album because most people write music about love and its related themes.

i think tears tend to come when i associate a song with something going on in my life. so right now the sadder songs are hitting me in some places, but i'm sort of fighting that...so not so much.

anyone who knows about the link is probably someone who'd buy it anyway. the minute the albums out there will be rips all over the web for those who wouldn't. i haven't listened yet, but i can't imagine changes.

I don't understand why anyone would be pissed this didn't make the album. I'm in love with song, probably more than any released. But its been released. Why would we want it in the album?

I'm glad you had fun with this and it was an interesting read. But I don't think there's a straight story right now. Some people are acting like there has been a confirmation of what it means...if you put all the interviews together there's no conclusion to be drawn at this point other than something ungoogleable.

Was he being sarcastic? I can't tell because the English is a little broken. No problem with that! Just mean to say I'm not sure if he's being sarcastic. Obviously, can't base stuff off remixes. There is a Sparks remix out there I'm sure. A remix doesn't speak to anything. If we're listening to a song and we think, "Is this the song or a remixed version" then maybe the band have gone too far. But right now I'm all for progression - and its baby steps at that. What everyone on this site will soon realize is that the wider world doesn't think Coldplay has changed at all. Which should affect your perspective. Doesn't mean it should change your opinion, just your perspective.

Lol dude it seems you're a newby because x&y was panned by everyone. What reverse world are you living in? Must be one run by coldplayers. Viva got much better reviews than x&y. Your personal preference does not represent the worlds.

Looking forward to the scan. I never pay much attention to the actual rating of the review, just the content of it. Rolling Stone is not a difficult magazine to get a good review in. You just have to be the people they like. And they like a certain type of artist/band. As someone said, U2 can do no wrong in their eyes. They gave No Line on the Horizon 5 stars. FIVE STARS. I used to be a massive U2 fan (time has faded my passion), but that album was horrific. It was commercially irrelevant and it wasn't even musically relevant. It existed in a no-man's land. And the fact that RS gave it 5 stars completely diminished them in my mind. They give great reviews to the most popular artists who fulfill certain elements - Beyonce and Lady Gaga have been recipients of better reviews. They just aren't relevant in the rating context. I love to see their feature articles, but I wouldn't take the rating as much. At the end of the day, musical ratings are little more than a blindfolded person throwing a dart at a rating scale.

I would say that I am not anticipating any song more than any other. That might have been different if the summer tour hadn't happened. Right now I'd say I just want the album in its full form. Snippets aren't doing it for me anymore. And something tells me no one song is going to standout on this album, which is not a bad thing.

People need to lay off posters who haven't been on the forum for long. The only reason everyone is annoyed at people for these threads is they have nothing better to do. Hopefully once the album drops your boredom will shift and you'll all calm down. That said, those on here are aware Spanish rain isn't likely to show up. However, its dumb to say car kids has no chance of being released. It's all over the graffiti...

From what Chris has said, paradise is the girls song and Charlie brown is the boys. Charlie brown isn't a person in the albums story. It's a stand in name, that riffs of the peanuts comic character of the same name - he also had a big heart. Running man is probably isn't anything more than a cool graphic which represents the various stages of the song hlh

Yeah, Coldplay fans on this forum have a hard time wrapping their head around the fact that Coldplay are pop. This probably has to do with the desire to reject the masses liking the album, but the masses liked their first four albums as well. Coldplay have, and will likely always be, a pop band. They make music to please crowds. People want to think of Pop as the most mainstream portion of society. That's not what it is. It's music that is popular. This isn't easy to define, so there are segments. Lady Gaga is someone who is probably more popular than Coldplay. But just so you know, everyone in the world has heard of Coldplay. Right now they are the biggest band in the world. You don't get that title without writing Pop music.

I also love the themes that can come up in an album. Whether that's a choice phrasing (like now my feet won't touch the ground - which I LOVED, as I felt he used it in saying he was happy because his wife - LITii - his friends - NMFWTTG - and his kids - Strawberry Swing). It seems like Us Against the World and Every Teardrop is a Waterfall are going to be repeated lines. I'm not sooo crazy about them, but that can change. Clearly, this album (era) is more interconnected purposefully than the rest. I'll be interested to see what this comes to in the full album. In my mind Parachutes and AROBTTH, even if they didn't have defined themes, had defined moods - conveyed lyrically and musically. X & Y is clearly very much Chris in husband and father mode, and thinking all about it. Not to mention brother mode. Viva was such a colorful album in my mind. In a lot of ways I don't see the album as retaining a consistent theme or message. I think we get where his head is pretty clearly, but its a lot of places. But I thought this worked perfectly. While some albums could sound out of place with the great variation, Viva thrived with it, in my mind. It seems like MX may be similarly colorful, but more consistent in theme. The love story seems quite at the heart. I really can't wait for the whole album to be here. 20 listens in maybe I'll have wrapped my head around themes and another conversation can start.

Great artwork, everybody. Pretty sure its come busting up concrete though...whereas your other word means bursting into flames. Which could be something, but its the rose come busting up concrete.

It's been really surprising that with the whole concept album love story thing coming out that people on this forum continue to say wedding bells doesn't fit into it. I'm not debating what the hand have said themselves or if its a good or bad song, but clearly the love story aspect is there as it is in the album.

I think that is what they're talking about...and that's so fcuking clearly not artwork for an EP. Geez I thought you guys actually had something. This is promotional material for a LIVE EVENT - do you honestly think there's some hidden shit in there? I also think Car Kids is kind of crap title, although I'd still love an EP. Although everything the band has said suggests we shouldn't be expecting anything.

I bet Charlie Brown as well. Princess of China shouldn't be in a desert. That's just too many symbols that don't float together. And remember, Rihanna will likely have to be in the video...so doubt she's making it to Cape Town. OMG :facepalm:

Any of these big bands we know that use a good deal of production usually have ten different versions of a song before they go with the final one. While I think some bands might put a noticeably different version on the album (considering its release as a single already), I don't think Coldplay is one of those bands. We'll all remember the Osaka Sun remix of LIJ, which I think is the better version, even though the change is very small (the ooo-ooohs at the end of verses). Maybe ETIAW has a change like that, but as they've been playing it live no different than the released version, I doubt we'll see a change. Major Minus is a song I think that might have a slightly different album version. Their live version adds some stuff the recorded version did not, so I think they might add those things in. My hope is that the songs we've heard live sound fairly different in their studio forms. While some would hate this, I want it because I want a different listening experience. I held off from listening to Up In Flames and I'm sure I haven't listened to the live versions of most of the songs anywhere near as much as everyone else here - that said, the songs are fairly "get in your head-ish", so I've not been able to properly forget them. They just don't have very complex arrangements - which is fine, just makes them hard to forget.
