and i've reread my posts. besides being genuinely bothered by people saying the album has no emotion, i've not said anything to agitate anyone. i really am confused by your reactions. "moot"..."snapple fact"..."coldplay are not a religious band btw" you're obviously bothered by something, but i'm feeling a bit wrongly maligned.

the fact that you're needling over whether chris is religious or not in an argument that has nothing to do with it shows the absolute pointlessness of continuing any discussion. you guys aren't being passionate, you're being childish. i apologize if i was intense in some remarks, but i was never denying someone's ability to dislike the album. i was never saying the album was "great - fact" - cause i thought it so. the album is what we each make of it. i just think you'd be better off asking chris if there was any emotion in what he was writing, than simply stating there wasn't because you didn't connect to it. yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. but chris' emotion has nothing to do with who beholds it. i know no more than you do about what he was feeling, but the lyrics and sound are a window to this, and they speak for themselves.

First, I never said Coldplay was a religious band. But Chris Martin is on the record as saying he's religious. I'm not religious, so when I quote a lyric that says "God", there's really no room for my personal interpretation. Also, I'd like to think that the spectrum of human emotion is large enough and certainly complex enough that some folks here who think the album is empty would be able to understand that if someone finds the record to have certain emotional resonance that its not empty. hahaha that doesn't even make grammatical sense. regardless, my point is that if someone sees something there then you cannot just call a record empty. i'm not just talking about myself. i don't pretend to know other coldplayers emotions, as some seem to, but clearly with the divisions here i'd have to say some people found stuff they liked. and any person who discredits someones ability to like VLV because it was there first album is absolutely crazy, because there are handfuls here who have said it was their first and they like the others now. VLV happens to be my favorite and I've been listening to them for a decade. Also, I'm a bit nonplussed that anyone would call my referencing song lyrics to support a point "weird". I understand I was a bit intense in my original post, which wasn't necessary, but I don't get the level of agitation on display by many here.

This is pretty surprising news - that is, if it's actually going to happen. I wouldn't put it beyond the band to do a live debut of a new song (I feel they grew more confident after Viva), but I have to feel something would have to be released before that. And honestly, if this is on November 21, the single would have to be out at least two weeks before. That just doesn't seem at all likely to me. I realize we've heard relatively nothing, but I just can't imagine the band doing that. They take forever to do everything - this would be completely unlike them. Honestly, I feel like they'll play Glass of Water or LIT ii, because those are one's they're comfortable with but most US audiences don't know. But it'd be absolutely awesome if they did debut something. Perhaps, they would have a three song EP or something with a lead single. The single being taken from the album that might come a couple months later. That seems like it might account for all the variables in this situation. Well, I'm eager to hear from Roadie 42!

Yeah? What is it with people who hate on Viva using all these Viva era names? And can people please stop saying that Viva la Vida was empty. That's just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Just because where someone may be in life doesn't allow them to connect to certain emotions, does not mean that the record lacks emotions. God guys, Chris is married!!! The whole heartbreak and all that stuff isn't coming. For Chris' sake I certainly hope not. If we were to get songs like the old ones, they would disingenuous or contrived. Honestly, if you've heard Wedding Bells prepare yourself for an album that is actually contrived! I'm not saying that as a negative thing, but I feel like people have no idea where the music is coming from. Chris certainly isn't Jay-Z, but he's a lot more confident than he used to be (as is the band) and this showed on VLV. It would be one thing if people said they like a style and want it back. Like Parachutes or AROBTTH era stuff. But saying you want songs that have the "emotion" of Coldplay past is just silly. Any emotion that could tap into those past albums would have to be "artistically" made now, because Chris' feet have left the ground! He's HAPPY!!! BE HAPPY FOR HIM. And anyone who has heard the gripes of people talking about Viva know that the one thing you hate is the "artistic" part of the album. For Coldplay to write songs in the same emotional vain of the past albums they'd have to go artistic - and with Wedding Bells it seems Chris may have. Not all emotional songs are about love. On Viva la Vida you have more COMPLEX emotion (albeit most of it isn't even that complex folks)... Cemeteries of London - "I see God come in my garden, but I don't know what he said, for my heart wasn't open" 42 - "Those who are not dead are not dead they're just living in my head" - regardless of what you think of the song, Chris obviously has some invested emotion in it, "Time is so short and I'm sure there must be something more," this is some heavy stuff folks Lovers in Japan - "They are turning my head out, to see what I'm all about, keeping my head down to see what it feels like now..." Yes - lots of "dark" stuff about desire Viva la Vida - HE DOESN'T THINK HE'S GOING TO HEAVEN!!! Violet Hill - certainly artistic but certainly emotional in it's moments Strawberry Swing - FOR GOD'S SAKE THIS SONG IS SO EMOTIONAL!!! HE LOVES HIS KIDS!!!! You may not have kids but for God's sake don't you understand his love for them!!! "The sky could be blue, I don't mind, without you it's a waste of time" Whether that's for the kids or his wife, that's pretty emotional. Death and all his Friends - Reassuring a lover - is this not emotional???? Life in Technicolor II - HE LOVES HIS WIFE!!! Rainy Day - arguably about Guy's life, but certainly emotional in it's simple way. Perhaps too simple for people to realize how emotional it is. Prospekt's March - Disillusionment and realization. Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground - HE LOVES THE BAND!!! AREN'T YOU HAPPY FOR HIM?!? to all those who don't need to hear this I apologize for my rant, but I'm growing weary of this Viva bashing that talks about emotions. um...this is a bit ridiculous. i'm sure a fan wrote that song and while i think it's a great effort for someone, it would never be in the film. and chris martin's voice would NEVER fit within the context of harry potter. if someone sang a song it would be some vocalist who was famous for being a phenomenal singer - Renee Fleming type - not in a band. none of this is said to bad mouth chris or the person who made this piece for youtube, it just wouldn't happen. i love coldplay, but i also love harry potter and know they would never be so colossally stupid to bring chris martin to sing at the end of the film.

I can't say that I believe "All That Remains" would end up on the album, but even just thematically it seems to fit within what we heard from Wedding Bells. I realize songs move all about with themes and ideas, but there's something melancholy about that title and about Wedding Bells. Obviously...I'm just searching for stuff. Could all be untrue for all I know!

Hahaha yes! I love that you said this! I can't comprehend how anyone could find VLV boring. I love Parachutes, but I feel if anyone was going to use the word "boring" to describe a Coldplay album, it would have to be that one. Brian Eno is a master. He's hardly done anything at all to Coldplay's core structure. Honestly, people shouldn't complain so much. The band is still making the same type of music. They've not gone out to pasture on us. In my opinion, it's improved and more interesting music.

All That Remains is definitely a song title for sure, at least at this moment. Maybe it'll get changed around come track listing time or won't even make the cut. Clearly they change directions 143 times. :dozey:

I think the song is quite beautiful, but I don't see it as a break up song or as a "how wonderful that we're in love" song. it seems sort of like a melancholy beginning of a memory. to be honest, i sort of see an impressionist painting in listening to this song - like a hazy memory. i have a feeling its looking up though. the album starts bittersweet and maybe ends sweet? i would normally consider that backwards to real life, but then again, i heard chris' words to mean that album would start with the song - its called wedding bells. you'd expect that at the end. but who knows. and for those people talking about hoping this isn't a final version - you can be damn sure it won't just be chris on a piano. there's not a chance coldplay would do that to start an album. even if that's the main part, it'll have a lot more than that. remember, these are the eno-influenced days. :dance:

wow that's incredibly fantastic of the media to do, and I have to wonder if Chris is now regretting putting himself and a new song in the spotlight as he did. in the midst of an album someone might not take notice, but he put it out for interpretation. i sort of feel like he didn't give it much consideration...really unfortunate the media would act this way. although to speak to someone asking if vlvdaahf was a story album, i can't see how it would be. there are certain things repeated, and the band sort of talked about the story aspect, but it clearly didn't come out much. the "soldier" storyline from violet hill and perhaps in prospekt's march were pretty muddled...i can't see the band attempting to say they really went hard for any story angle. although, perhaps chris was just speaking to the song as someone mentioned. although the way he described it, it didn't seem like he was speaking to the song alone. he brought up the "who knows where it will end" type thing, and that's all that made me think of a story album. like this song was just a starter. BUT WHO KNOWS. not me. i just love the story album idea!

I do remember this, but at that point in time I didn't really know. And with all the misinformation coming from Roadie 42, I got thrown off the track. But this is great!

Did anyone else catch this? The idea Chris expressed of Wedding Bells being the beginning of a story, in album form. I'm absolutely geeking out right now because a story album would be the coolest thing to me. And if this is the case, with or without Wedding Bells, I'd be ecstatic. I'm wondering if anyone else would be into this? Or perhaps people didn't even think it was much of a statement to hang on. I don't know. Also, I'm really amazed Wedding Bells has found it's way this far into the future. Not because it's quality, but I guess I didn't think it'd make it this far. Silly me :rolleyes:

for greatest artists of all time, for coldplay to be on the list, let alone ranked as well as they are, this early into their career, is a pretty cool thing imo. i always think these rankings are crap anyway, because how can you really judge something like that. certainly paul mccartney doesn't seem to deserve to be where he is, considering the beatles are already on the list and after them he's been relatively worthless. but all of it is a crap shoot. its just good that coldplay would be seen as worthy of being there. future prospects mean they'll place higher if they can keep up the fantastic work! :dance:

Oddly enough, I think I've long since gotten over thinking a thread like this could be relevant. I've seen a large amount of straight males who like or love Coldplay at this point in time, on this forum and in real life, so I haven't felt odd about being a straight male and liking Coldplay for a while. Coldplay are my favorite band and I feel no need to chest beat my masculinity when stating that.

I wouldn't disagree about the commercial aspect. I don't think anyone could - they did an iTunes commercial... :rolleyes: ALTHOUGH, I did think it was a cool commercial and Pink, I completely agree with the acrobatics. I was lucky to see them live this tour (first time), and I loved it and I love that Chris was having a good time with it. Exuberance isn't a bad thing, but hopefully their next tour he tones it down just a little bit.

Another thing. Can anyone think of Coldplay in this situation? If we're all such big fans, shouldn't we be happy that they've made a record they're proud of. That they've brought in people they want to work with. I realize everyone has their own tastes in music, but we shouldn't wish Coldplay to stagnate just because our interests remain the same.

I continue to be mystified by people saying that Viva la Vida was the band's "mainstream" attempt. I mean...really? Coldplay have NEVER been an indie band except in the days when all bands are indie bands - when they start. Even then they got signed by Parlophone right away. Yellow couldn't be more mainstream. I think people might get the wrong idea when I say this. I love Coldplay. They're my favorite band ever. But they've never been indie. And if anything, this album has brought them closer to that than X & Y. I think in terms of creativity, Viva la Vida ranks highest. Originality - well Coldplay aren't that original. They joke about it, but truly they are great blenders of music. Bands that become the best always are. Think of U2 (NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE MUSIC IS THE SAME AS COLDPLAY ALL YOU LOONS WHO HATE U2), they have done so many different sounds and yet kept it pretty close to mainstream. That's what Coldplay always have been. The only reason they weren't on the radio all the time wasn't because of their music, it was because the lyrics had emotion. People don't like most songs that have legitimate emotion - the masses don't at least. But this album had everything. Too many fans on this forum have failed to read into the emotion of the song Viva la Vida - that's truly the most blunt statement I've ever made on this thread, so I'm sorry to offend anyone, but it's getting irritating. Into all the songs frankly. I keep hearing that Coldplay changed. Chris just matured. The band matured. They're going new places that they can be proud of. To continue the blunt questions...has no one read into the song Viva la Vida to see that in many way's Chris is talking about the disappointment of being on top of the world after the first two albums and seeing it all fall down with X & Y? The most mainstream songs on VLV I think were Lovers in Japan and Lost - and they weren't even good radio hits. Viva la Vida is the only song that did well, and I'm sorry, but I refuse to call that song more mainstream than songs like Fix You and Yellow. ALSO: there are always going to be single worthy songs on albums.

Hey I'm absolutely certain there are some threads out there dedicated to this song, but I didn't really have the time to look for them. I just wanted to get people's thoughts again - even if expressed previously - about the song Lukas and if it's an absolute travesty they gave the song to Natalie Imbrugliwhat without recording their own version. Personally, upon hearing the song sung by her for the first time today (I don't know why I never looked at this months ago - I guess I was in school at the time), I can so hear how great it would be with Chris's voice and the band really allowed to let go. I mean...I'm not saying it'd be what Chris said - "best Coldplay song ever" or something like that - but it would have been a great b-side or track on Prospekts in place of one of the second versions of LIJ or LOST!. Note: I'm also sure Chris wasn't being serious when he said that...I think But yeah? Anyone mind letting me know there thoughts. Also, sorry for forcing the eventual movement to the previous thread this discussion must have taken place in. :kiss:
