VLV Tour DVD (Sign up)
+74 I just want to also add. I want more then a DVD. I want something bold! Trent Reznor just released over 400 GB of HDV. Over 3 shows, all for the price tag of $0. Coldplay needs to do something like this. They need to release some HD videos for free!

U2
If they decide to go the route of Coldplay and ignore Vancouver I will kill someone. They will be playing some arenas. Well in Vancouver they will be, our only major stadium is currently undergoing major renovations. I hope its not near the start, I do hope they kick it off in Europe. That way we get a U2 in form, like the Milan or U2 3D show. Good well rounded U2.

LP5 Discussion Thread[Updates in First Post]
I want more stuff like Prospekts March/Poppyfeilds, Now My Feet Wont Touch The Ground, 42, Yes, Glass of Water, and well a few poppy songs like Viva La Vida, Lovers in Japan and Life in Technicolor ii. A continuation of the Viva process will be the best move. Right now they are releasing quality stuff and i want them to continue to. I have faith.

U2 vs. Coldplay
Why was that not on the album? Same idea as Viva La Vida, but no that close. Good song

U2 vs. Coldplay
I dont know why, but No Line On The Horizon hasn't caught me yet. I was listening to War today, and I asked myself: "what happened to this U2?" What happened to the Under A Blood Red Sky U2? I wish, I could have been around to see those days like I see today. I want the Raw, strong and passionate U2 back. We got a glimpse of it in 2005 when The Edge lit himself onfire during the Vertigo Tour. In 2001 at Slane Castle. No Line On The Horizon though, does not have that passion. It doesn't have a Kite, Walk On, Sometimes, Crumbs. To me the album is lacking the emotion of the past. Or maybe this album hasn't grown on me. It hasn't grabbed me like Viva La Vida did, its good. Its really good, but I have been forceing myself to listen to it. Im really back into Coldplay right now. Im looking forward to the tour, for the old songs. To hear Streets and hopefully bad. Those are my Politik's for U2. When I heard the opening notes of Politik, I knew all the pain, the travel and 48 hours without sleep to see Coldplay, was worth it. This album doesnt have a lynch pin song to me. It has good songs, but nothing That gives me shivers like Streets. Nothing that brings so much passion in me like SBS. Nothing that makes me want to cry like One. It doesnt have that song. Thats why I see this album as a disappointment, because even Bomd had a song like that for me.

Lovers In Japan Acoustic
Hey, this is my current favorite track. I love the Acoustic. There are two guitars: Intro: Jonny I assume e|-------------------------- B|-10---7----3---3---2-- G|-------------------------- D|-9-----5----0----------- A|------------------0------ E|-------------------------- I need help with the chords and strumming.

Viva la vida acoustic/piano version
Id help you out but all I know is the guitar root notes. I use C#, D#, Fb and G#

U2
Very Very true. That guy also got yelled at by Bono, Edge saved him though. A fan at the first Slane show got on stage, they gave him a guitar and he started playing A Sort OF Homecoming. Talk about balls eh? He knew they wouldn't play it, so he forced it. They went along and Bono screwed up the lyrics.

U2
Im going to come out and say this now. I liked Viva La Vida better, still do.

Chinese Sleep Chant cover..
I beg to differ, its one of the easiest to cover. Chris did it on the free Amsterdam show. I got the echo time from there. Turn the distortion on, and treble on, bridge pickup. Done. I give you credit! Vocals are the hard part and it was amazing! Good Job!

U2 a fire; Coldplay a warm blanket
Well i think they both proved how different they are in the last 12 months. No Line On The Horizon and Viva La Vida - Prospekts March are both brilliant! Both are 100% different. They deserve no comparison at all.

As of today, Coldplay are the band of the 00s
I think they played around experimental wise with X&Y and it was great, to the die hards. They then looked to the best to help them. Viva La Vida was very experimental, to me. It payed off big time. With that the guys felt better more confident and with Prospekts March, they perfected the sound. Its old Coldplay meets new Coldplay. And I look at PM as a preview to the new album, not so much an extension of Viva. They have gotten good at the experimental thing now. The next album will be their best, I know it will be. Eno hasn't helped their music as much, I dont really hear him to much on Viva La Vida other then the Viloins and organ in Lost! He's helped them mature and grow, same way he did U2. I am a Coldplay critic, they could have done better with Viva La Vida, the proof is Prospekt. I know they will. With Both them and U2 looking to release later this year, we may finally see these two go head to head on the awards. Although they are nothing a like. Coldplay have more talented Frontman and drummer, and par for bass. At this point, Edge is better then Jonny though. I know Jon is growing though. Success wise, Coldplay are doing well. They are more successful at this point in their career then U2 were at the same 4 album and 1 EP point. Also it took to this point cause what makes music great is time. U2 is timeless, because the Joshua Tree is still great, well PArachutes is still great. All their albums are still amazing years later. Plus they have The Scientist.

As of today, Coldplay are the band of the 00s
With only 10 months left in the decade of 2000-2009. For me it is very safe to say, Coldplay have commanded this decade music wise. In 2000 they broke through as well all know with Yellow and, in my opinion one of the best debut efforts of all time, Parachutes. It was an album inspired by Neil Young and REM. Im going to say this, Im not going to compare U2 and Coldplay at all, other then by their success, since they have almost nothing in common. To me its a great album with strong instrumental work that is key in a successful record. The music is obviously written by young men, but its great at that. Martins lyrics are some of the best of most musicians this early in their career. He doesn't steal a lot of lyrics from the bible. The lyrics are that of a young man: angst, love and helplessness. From Parachutes Coldplay wrote arguably the best album in rock music since Nevermind. X&Y....not! A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Its only fitting a career defining album starts with their best song. Politik is the best Coldplay song. For this too, they use Muse as a huge muse....not funny? Well its not usual for a Band to deliver an album like this on their second effort, for now, it is The Best Album of the 2000s. Coldplay show great growth on this album and, deliver a strong album Start to finish. A few filler songs, but The Scientist, Clocks, Politik and Amsterdam make up for Daylight and A whisper. A Rush Of Blood, has a feel to it, a feeling I describe as Raw. Not much production added to it. It is 4 guys with their instruments, in a room with mics. I can feel the talent coming trough on this one. They set a great tone for the album and its effective and strong. From this album on, the one flaw of Martin starts to show in his music, his inability to deal with the pressure of the mainstream and the critics. The first two albums, they wrote from their hearts, and they second guessed themselves, but just enough to make their music great. They had forced themselves to make good music and not crap. Coldplay unfairly gained massive ridicule from this point on. Many rockers made fun of their music being to soft rock, to slow, to sissy. Lets see a sissy write an aggressive masterpiece like Politik. Well they subcame to the critics with X&Y. They went to far into the production booth and they lost a lot of the good to over production. It was a good album, but they just lot the thing that made Coldplay good on their last two albums. They gave in. For that they got roasted, from what we know, they as 4 best friends were in turmoil. For a good album, if Oasis wrote X&Y it would have been a 5 star. X&Y was not a disappointment, it was perceived that way because Coldplay to this point had been known for two damned good albums. To produce a good one, was seen as a catastrophe. I will call this album their Pop, seen as a musical crapfest, but to this point sold the most of the other two albums. Not a failure. With that they enlisted the help of a Brian Eno, they locked themselves together in a bakery, and rediscovered what made them great. In there they wrote their most successful album to date. They went back to basics then went from there built upon it. Still suffering from the Jesus of Uncool title, Martin and the boys seemed to feel pressure. That now seems to have been lifted somewhat. Most people see him as an eccentric weirdo, I see him as my hero, being himself. He is weird, quarky, but he is cool to me. He is a Rock star in his own, he is different. With Viva La Vida, Coldplay established themselves as a MAJOR SUCCESS. Their strongest song to date destroyed records in terms of sales. Even conjured up jealousy in some. One of which filed a lawsuit. Chris Martin is the most talented frontman that comes to mind. He beats Yorke, is alive so beats Cobain. He only lacks one thing from Bono, the ability to grab hold of people and make them feel his passion. Other then that, he can sing, plays the guitar well and is an ace at the piano. He is still young. I have based Viva La Vida, because I expect better. Prospekts March proved they still have it. That EP apart from the 3 songs from the previous album (LiT ii counts) its got a raw feel to it, and always has the ability to grab hold of me. They are teenagers in rock years. Judgeing by albums, with 4 albums they are where U2 was at with 5, they are on par fro Radiohead. They have some growing up to do. Still though, they set the example for new bands, The Fray, Keane and to a degree Killers all follow Coldplays example. With U2 releasing a new album many expect Coldplay to go under the shadow. The opposite is true. In my eyes Viva La Vida - Prospekts March, are better then No Line On the Horizon. They are both very different though. Coldplay should be proud of their careers thus far, and will now prove to hold their own musically to their big bros U2, and success wise, will draw damned near close. With Coldplay looking to release some new stuff this year same as U2. Its great to be a music fan. If Coldplay lose some of the production and go back to a basic model of these guys in a room, then add little production, a la Prospekt, an LP of that value, well, I can't wait. To me Coldplay have stood out these past 8.2 years and been near the front of the pack in terms of leading the way musically. They subcome to to much ridicule, that comes with popularity and jealousy. Coldplay are the band of the decade. They are helping slowly lead into a new music scene, and they are masters of their art. Im sorry for spelling errors, its late, my blood sugar is low and in an awkward position. Please I welcom discussion, I know I missed a lot of points.

U2
The album we have been waiting for, begging for has finally arrived! No Line On The Horizon. Its been just over 4 years, and after changing producers randomly, we have one of U2's masterpieces. This album sees U2 working closely with their 3 most decorated producers: Steve Lillywhite, Brian Eno and my personal favorite, Daniel Lanois. No Line On The Horizon - I hate to say this, if I were to describe this song in one word it would be: Overproduced. The lyrics are, very very good. The opening guitar/white do it for me though. It ruins the song, the B-side version, to me is a lot better. Magnificent - Most people see this as a concert opener, I however do not. That said, the open got my attention really fast, then when he breaks into his sweet ass echo riff, I was blown away. This song has an energy to it, as with most of the album, driven by the new duo in U2, Edge and Adam. I havent heard these two gel together so well since Joshua Tree. Bono's melody's dont really add much to this track. An obvious single, and obvious favorite Moment of Surrender - Now i read that this was a Lillywhite track, which it can not be. This one spells Eno. This is lyrically the most deep song U2 has written in a while. Not on the level of Kite and Sometimes You Cant Make It On Your Own, which hold an amazing power I connect to. Its deep on the level of a Bad, and One. Adam, does amazingly on this track, and it seems Edge finally broke out his sustainer again, although not as effective as in With Or Without You, it helps add to the mood of the song. This is one of the linch pin songs on the album, and awesome. Unknown Caller - This is Edge's song, both instrumentally and vocally. Most of the "ohhhhhs" are Edge and Larry. This is one of the track I always skip. I havent been able to connect to this song at all. Just not feeling this one. But its okay we have: I'll Go Crazy If I Dont Go Crazy Tonight - With this song all I have to say is: Edge is back! This is the strongest song on the album; their Viva La Vida, although it wont be nearly as successful. I love this song, lyrically it isnt the strongest, but defanitly stronger then some of the stuff. Once again driven by Edge and Adam. Get On Your Boots - Easily the most criticized single ever! It took me one or two listens, but I loved this track from beginning to now. It is the obvious first single cause it the most like old U2. It is Vertigo 2.0. At that though, it fits perfectly on the album and changes the mood very quickly. This is the song Edge and Adam command most. Even Larry takes lead, there is a reason Bono is behind the band most of the time when they preform this song, because its theirs. Stand Up [Comedy] - I havent made up my mind yet. It is the top played song on the album for me. I said earlier that Magnificent was the choice for most to open a show. This is the opener for me. Come on "Stand Up!" it works perfectly. Its a cool riff by Edge another song influenced by Jack White. To me this is the most like old U2. Adam and Larry driving the song, while Edge and Bono add that little flair that it needs. Sitting on it for a few days, my favorite track. FEZ - Being Born - They let Eno out of the box on this one! Its nice to see something 100% different on this album. Id comment on Edges guitar work, but I've already heard it on the first half of the album. Nothing original about this track except the opening, i didnt know Fez meant Filler. White As Snow - This song will be one of those you come to love later, its their Reign of Love. Its different, yet so much like U2. Its nice to hear the duo acoustics and a piano to top it all off. Its got a cool ambient feel to it. Upon my first few listens I hated it, but its growing on me. This will be my favorite in about 6 months I know it. To bad it will be nearly impossible to pull off live. I would say one of the best on the album, this albums Red Hill. Breathe - Bono rapping? No. This is as blues as U2 will ever get. I know how tis song came to be. It was on that was born on the couch during some down time when they all just started playing. Its a straight up Dylan meets Springsteen mixed with Raconteurs. Its the most Rock and Roll they will ever get. Bono, singing in straight up blues style, this song is U2 does blues. Cedars of Lebanon - good way to end the album, but i really dont have comment based on the one time Ive listened to it. Overall 4.5/5, for what this album is, near perfection! It could lose some time, and some more amazing solo's by Edge. A groove or two by Adam and one more jaw dropping riff by Larry. This is one of the few albums of U2s that is meant to be listened to as an album. like Zooropa and Pop before it. This song will not be a commercial success not single wise at least. It was an album written to be an album. They brought back the blues and rock back, they dusted off Edges echo pedals and turned Adam up to 11. This album is missing that one linch pin song though. It is missing that song that jumps out at you. Its missing a Viva La Vida, a Streets. That is why its 4.5 and not 5. Its a full album experience and for anything above casual fan easily in the Top 5 and for most but not all Top 3. For me its the latter, this album is no Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby. IT can be, the only this that can prove it though is in 15 years, if it is still the same or better. Time will tell I will finish with this statement: U2 and Coldplay can now never be compared again. They both had career albums in the last year, and they are both completely different. Yet both very amazing! Coldplay should be proud with their releases this year. They have separated themselves from U2 and should noe be recognized and this decades Greatest Rock Act.

U2
Its cool seeing Will.i.am in there. I am so excited for this. 10 more days till the Ireland release! From the previews. This is their best stuff since Joshua Tree. The bass grooves sound amazing. Edge in full, well...Edge mode. From the new songs Bono is singing in very hard keys, and singing very well. All the reviews have been positive, for the most part. This will be a classic, because for the first time in a long time they are going back to the blues, and the recorded and cut 5 songs in 24 hours! More bands need to do this! I miss bands cutting album in virtually one day.

U2
The version of No Line On the Horizon is an alternate version, likely the B-side for Boots single. Its really good, sounds pretty cool and has a pretty upbeat guitar to it. Bono is singing like a god again!

Yeah they will ask you something like: What was Coldplays first major hit in the US? you answer Yellow. Bam first row. I saw them at a festival so no need for that. What are the possibility of Pearl Jam hitting up the Gorge again anytime soon. Im dying to see them, and its their favorite venue. So Im really hoping.

Coldplay at North Americas greatest venue? Do I want to go? FUCK YEAH! I origonally saw all the dates and thought to myself George WA, and cried cause they are going to some obscure WA town and not Vancouver. Then I rethought it, and said "HOLY CRAP!!! GORGE!!!!" IS this the Festival they are playing?
