Chris Martin Hands Q Award To Noel Gallagher
Excellent news and congrats to Noel. Well deserved and I can't stop listening to Chasing Yesterday. Superb album. We better not compare Chris and Noel's recent output because it's rather depressing.

I was trying to organize my bookcase the other day and I came across the VLV tour book. And what a delight it was. I must have spent about an hour going through it again, admiring all the astonishing artwork and pictures; AND the lyrics, AND the fonts and everything else. I'm still amazed to this day how brilliant that album turned out to be especially after how anxious everyone was about what would come after X&Y and how they could evolve. Obviously the nostalgia is mixed with a sense of disappointment and uneasiness, because of what followed. Bittersweet indeed!

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
We're well aware of the band's inner workings and their interpersonal relationships. There is a reason royalties are shared 40-20-20-20, with Chris taking most of the credit. The way I see it he is responsible for everything apart from other members' own contribution to layer up the song in the production process. I wouldn't call the other members session musicians but they're not far off. Their individual contribution to the overall act of Coldplay (remember we're not talking about just the music) is noticeably less than what we see with most other rock bands out there. I've called it before and I think if they were to continue after LP7, they need to seriously rethink the core dynamism within the band. Whether Will, Jonny and Guy are at all capable of actually writing songs on their own I'm not so sure. But change is definitely needed, and I'm glad Guy confirmed my thoughts during their BBC interview with Jo Whiley.

Great post and all crucial points. I cannot urge people enough to go out there and try to discover artists who could potentially change your life more so than Coldplay ever could. I was always lucky in that my life was consumed by other bands before getting into Coldplay, namely Pink floyd, U2 and Anathema. So the whole transition from obsession to total apathy and detachment has been easier for me. Not that easy since it took a long time but it did happen. Coldplay's music happens to be emotionally infectious which I believe is the sole reason why people are sill around. I also like the fact I allow myself to read and analyze a lot of what the more genuine and professional critics say about their music, which further reinforce your own critique of the band, because they're mostly right. But this is all life's natural course obviously. Evolution of sound and your own tastes. OR, it could just be that your favorite band is now making crap music!

True Believer - feat. Chris Martin out now!
I'm actually lost for words on this! It's one of those pretend it never happened moments.

Great question. Of course there are songs that still tickle my senses but there are very few. In Mylo Xyloto the only songs I go back to are Major Minus and Up with the Birds. As for Ghost Stories I find Oceans and All Your Friends particularly interesting. But there is one song that I think beautifully showcases the band's ability and musicianship to create a true masterpiece, and it's Ghost Story. A huge number of people on this forum mistake our desire for the band to return to their original style as a hunger for repetition, which is absolutely wrong. When you listen to Ghost Story you're instantly reminded of Coldplay circa 2003, but of course it sounds nothing like anything on their earlier records. It's the perfect exhibition of evolution within your established boundaries. It's basically the band doing a proper simple rock song that truly captures that original Coldplay sound that we all reminisce about without relying on resemblance or similarity. And it's the only Coldplay song since 2008 that I consider will remain a classic, which is a long fucking time! Obviously the band CAN create an entire album in the vein of Ghost Story and the other songs I mentioned above, but they won't. And this is extremely frustrating.

I'm very mad at myself for not reading the book yet! I hope I get the chance one day. Same here

Apparently they're working with Pitbull and Daft Punk for LP8. But Steve Lillywhite would indeed be amazing. Not going to happen though I'm afraid.

Amazing Day
I never even knew there is a block option here! I guess I've never been so infuriated by anyone to go looking if I can block them. Anyway thank you for your understanding and your reasonable response.

Amazing Day
I really don't want to start an argument here since I advise everyone against it, but I should remind you and everyone else you are in no position to ask people to leave the forum. As much as I know you'd love this place to be like North Korea, it ain't gonna happen. People's complaints have stopped. It's now pages upon pages of you guys complaining about the complaints. So let's all just listen to our favorite Coldplay songs and stop arguing.

I believe we've talked in length about all these issues for the past 8 years and honestly I'm exhausted. Remember that discussions within the rock scene also take place in real life because not everyone is necessarily involved in fan forums. And everyone I know and talk to who've followed the band is a lot more damning and direct with their criticisms because they can freely express their true opinions without persecution. I think a band who has repeatedly and intentionally ignored and alimented their core fan base will naturally fall into abyss in the end. Coldplay's current output is, musically and technically speaking, utterly dreadful. And it has been for the past few years. But obviously they will never lose popularity because as I've said they're very much a generational band as in some will become interested and follow them for a while and then another group of younger fans come in and it's just a cycle being repeated. There is not much to talk about in terms of the band's legacy, because there isn't one. When you look at bands who started out before or around the same time as Coldplay (Travis, The Verve, Keane, Oasis, Anathema, Blur, Muse, Pearl Jam and of course Radiohead) you quickly realize they fall short hilariously in all aspects, be it pure musical talent, quality of their output or how they've shaped the world of rock alternative music. I hope people who really think Coldplay are a groundbreaking phenomena and the be-all and end-all of music try to explore what is out there in the rock scene so they can find truly great music. The final point I wish to address is the question of why I'm still here while so many thousands lost all interest years ago and while people vigorously and aggressively attack my points in the forum. And it's because Coldplay made 3 tremendously amazing records that, without exaggeration, had a huge positive effect on my life. Just like all my other favourite bands mentioned above. But more importantly, I believe Coldplay had so much potential to genuinely lead the scene as one of the greatest ever, but unfortunately they lost it all somewhere along the line. And that for me is extremely frustrating. Since this place turned into fucking North Korea with people wanting to put your head into a guillotine if you don't drool over everything Coldplay, I try to avoid posting or reading as much as I can. But I quite like this thread so thank you for providing a safe platform. And sorry for the long post. I hope that unlike me, you continue to enjoy Coldplay's music.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
If Amazing Day is an indication of how the album will sound, it's even worse than I expected!

[26-SEP-2015] Global Citizen Festival, New York
Overall another disappointing performance, with the original version of Yellow being the only highlight. The least said about Ariana Grande and that awful new song the better.

Can I just say how glorious it is to sea and hear Yellow performed in its original speed again! Bringing back memories for sure.

Amazing Day
Horrendous title. And the song is a sea of mediocrity.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
We should feel extremely lucky we got Parachutes and AROBTTH. I feel they're more comfortable with how they are and what they do now than in 2003 so there was always the possibility they could have started their career with a similar sound to what they do now. As for getting older and making more mature music, these two factors are not connected at all. Look at Madonna for example. She is more of wh*** now than she's ever been. This also applies to Guns N Roses, Green Day, Maroon 5, Bon Jovi and a lot of other people. What I personally expect from Coldplay in the years ahead is a sound somewhere between Take That and Nickelback. Kind of like a boy band but with actual instruments.

People don't seem to realize this my friend ;) I seriously advise you guys to not watch any of Louis C.K. or Ricky Gervais's work.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Well I don't know how many times I have to say this but the album is not finished, it's not officially revealed OR announced and it's certainly not going to be released any time soon. If we liken Coldplay's discography to Germany's history, MX was their Hitler. So it's only natural that people will always come back to discuss it. But all discussions as of now is pointless. I guess people just want to keep busy while waiting.

[18-SEP-2015] Coldplay iHeartRadio Music Festival, Las Vegas
You're both absolutely right and there is a lot to be said about all this. But I feel like we've been over all these issues many times on here since the days of VLV and to no avail. We're not exactly LP Underground and the band don't give a fuck about what you and I feel or think about their music and everything else. Since 2008 I've also gradually lost all interest and excitement about the band so I couldn’t care less what they do and as a result, as I've said before, it's just a waste of time and energy to have critical discussions on here. That is just my personal opinion though. I wholeheartedly hope none of you feel the same and continue to debate and discuss the band's endeavors future and present.

I just managed to watch the show. The outfits are way way too similar to MX, the set and the production was underwhelming and the set-list was terrible. And for some reason the band has this mindset that more colors equates a better performance, which shows a huge lack of creativity if you ask me. They might as well have done a gay-pride themed event wearing bright orange thongs. Overall I'm bitterly disappointed. As for not playing a new song, no one should be disappointed. Chris made a serious mistake by revealing the album too soon and got everyone's hopes up. I can assure you the band are not even finished with the album. My release date prediction still stands. Early 2016 at the very earliest.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
The forum always looks like this immediately before or after a release. Coldplay are a generational band who (currently) mostly attract teenagers and younger people who're easily excitable. With each release they win some and lose some. Whatever you read and see here now is to be expected. Eventually people will grow the fuck up and realize wasting time on an internet forum is a horrendously pointless and time-consuming affair.
