  1. I wouldn't release the album.
  2. I haven't listened to it for a week! Might give Birds a listen every now and then but that's about it. I too sense this era feels quite different, the beginning of an end somehow. The album is as irrelevant and unnecessary as they come. I can only hope the band takes a few years off after the tour to seriously contemplate on their output for the past 8 years.
  3. You seem to have entirely missed my point! And comparing a Taylor Swift or One Dimension forum to that of a band who originally started out as an alternative rock band is strange to say the least.
  4. That song is absolutely perfect. The whole era was! Their creativity peaked during the recording process for VLV and Prospekt's March and I now have serious doubts if they can find again whatever it was that ignited the fire within. That hunger to strive to be better and not necessarily bigger was definitely a major force.
  5. Great interview! I've always found Guy and in particular Will to be much more interesting both as musicians and as individuals. There is noticeably less criticism and disapproval than years before. A large number of people left and even more stopped caring about the band's output. I think the forum will continue to evolve into a more monolithic and uniformed community. Whether that's positive or not depends on your perspective.
  6. Post of the thread for sure.
  7. Those days are long gone my friend. He's now friends with Jay the Z and those guys from One Dimension.
  8. YES! Magnifique!
  9. Guys I'm loving your discussion on "Pop". Hopefully more people get to dig deep and listen to their entire discography. Four of the finest musicians to have ever walked the earth.
  10. That is most likely the case. I couldn't be more proud of the boys when they did the Facebook video. We all know of their intentions deep down and if it was entirely up to the band themselves they would have never taken it down. Superb song and great lyrics. Probably one of the best Chris has written in years.
  11.......
  12. See You Soon, Square One, Sleeping Sun etc all truly epic songs. After AHFOD I try to not listen to anything pre-2008 because the sense of frustration is almost overwhelming. Unfortunately a lot of people on the forum can't fathom why and where this frustration comes from. Obviously I try to enjoy the songs but I'm now constantly reminded of what could have been, even though for the past few years I'v trained myself to accept what they've become. I think since MX the process of embracing each album and forcing yourself to like it just because it's by a band you once adored has become pretty exhaustive, exacerbating even! And it just doesn't work. I could tell myself a million times that AHFOD is a masterpiece and a genius attempt at creativity and experimentation to produce positive uplifting songs, but it just isn't. Same story with MX and GS. And for how long are you prepared to lie to yourself. Naturally when you present any form of criticism on other threads, be it constructive or just emotional, members react aggressively by suggesting you should go fuck off and listen to something else. But what kind of argument is that?! If I didn't love and care deeply about the band why would I still be here? I'm here because I listen to Ghost Story and suddenly realize this band's strength knows no boundaries. I listen to Major Minus and am instantly reminded this band can create songs of epic proportion without trying to emulate their sound from earlier albums. I'm reminded that Coldplay CAN be Coldplay again...IF they chose to.
  13. I try to avoid arguing with keyboard warriors, especially those who showcase the mental capacity and maturity of a 10 year old.
  14. That has to be one of the nastiest comments I've read on Coldplaying. I know it may be very difficult for you, but when posting please try to avoid reactionary behavior fueled by emotions. I already love the man and I'm sure if he came up with a cure for something I've felt very closely I would appreciate him even more. The same would apply for everyone else.
  15. I know you like to hammer your point by continuously repeating it but it just isn't true. I'v been listening to U2 all my life and I don't know how old you were when Pop was released but the album was not mainstream and it absolutely did not conform to the mainstream popular culture and trends. To compare ANY of their work or their musicianship to Coldplay is absurd.
  16. Thank you for this post. It exactly demonstrates what we've been talking about!
  17. We've had this bullshit since MX. They can't provide you with a detailed technical argument justifying the crap so they act like 14 year old hyped up girls. Haven't you seen their posts?! It's full of "haha" and "YOLO" and all that nonsense.
  18. This thread is incredibly entertaining!
  19. 1. A Rush of Blood to the Head - 9.8/10 2. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends/Prospekt's March - 9/10 3. X&Y - 8.5/10 4. Parachutes - 8/10 5. Mylo Xyloto - 6.5/10 6. Ghost Stories - 5.5/10 7. A Head Full of Dreams - 4.25/10
  20. What I hope is for them to discontinue after the world tour. I love them as much as everyone else on here but AHFOD reinforced my thoughts that musically they no longer have anything meritorious to offer. Technically they're now no different that Maroon 5 or One Direction and before things get more ridiculous I'd like for them to end it. There is no talking of legacy or grace here, because they don't have any left; it's just what I believe is in the best interest of my favorite band. Lucky for you guys none of that will happen though. I've been saying since 2008 they're in dire need of a 5-6 year hiatus but it hasn't happened and I doubt it will because of Chris Martin's drive. LP8 will most likely be released around 2018 and will sound different to all they've done so far. I predict a Rap and R&B record with guests such as Drake, Rihanna, Kanye West and possibly Pitbull. Rita Ora will definitely feature. I don't think Coldplay function as a democratic outfit anymore and it's more "Chris Martin and his session musicians", and so his obsession with popular music and trends will dictate their sound for all future projects. They'll continue to sell well but once they're in their mid-40s their already declining relevance and influence will become nonexistent.
  21. Pointless debate. No one is actually providing any valid counterargument to my comment challenging the band's absurd point of view. They claim rock no longer has anything to offer so they choose to write unimaginative and inept pop trite instead. That is beyond nonsensical!
  22. Very true. But in Coldplay's case I'm not sure a long hiatus can guarantee better music. I think when the world tour is over they have the perfect opportunity to end it, and they should. I was just about to mention these! Perfect examples of what I conveyed in my post. Imagine Dragons and fucking Bastille are even worse culprits in producing terribleness. And Coldplay are directly responsible for their rise.
  23. Disturbing claims and statements by the band. Rock music is not "done" and never will be. There are exceptional bands and musicians out there experimenting and creating superb rock records, still pushing boundaries and advancing creativity. They challenge their listeners with provocative and captivating music and could change entire generations' lives by scrutinizing all life matters. To question and doubt the spirit and power of rock music is bizarre and quite daft. There is also a huge irony in that they claim there is not much to be done in the rock scene anymore, only for themselves to then choose to produce manufactured mainstream pop!!!! Absolutely insane interview. I don't know they're being delusional or stupid.
