I have a technical question for you guys, why are the band playing instruments in the video? The song is an electronic/R&B fusion with no drums, base or guitars in the instrumentation. They admit they don't want to be a rock band anymore so why, and more specifically what are they playing with their instruments in the video?

Of course I have my reasons but I don't want to bore us to death. I could get into all the technicality of why it's so trite and unimaginative but it's just not worth it.

I didn't want to post my opinion about the new video on its designated thread since a lot of people seem to like it and I'm in no place to depress or aggravate them with anything I say. So I was wondering what you all think about this inappropriate and atrocious piece of utter garbage.

It's important to note there's been a fundamental issue with Coldplay. Along with Madonna, Bon Jovi and Nickelback they're currently the most irrelevant musicians in the industry. I don't have to tell you what they all have in common! Since VLVODAAHF their presence or lack of it is totally insignificant, with their influence and resonance and ability to impact or change things in music now totally minuscule. Of course people's argument here is that they're just a careless happy band now, trying to make happy songs to make everyone else happy about being happy, until everyone vomits a sugary goo of Disney rainbows. But life and music don't work like that, and this forum and the views shared on it do not represent the millions of passionate music lovers and listeners out there. I personally think there are more unsettling undertones in what they're trying to achieve. They've been a major force in the rise of bands like Imagine Dragons, 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction, all the while exerting the idea of feeding blandness and mediocrity to the unchallenged masses.

Adele is not a manufactured mainstream puppet show! If you think she is you're seriously misinformed about her career and musicianship. She's the best female vocalist in the world right now and her nonconformist attitude and refusal to adhere to popular musical trends shines in her music. She's also an extremely capable songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who writes well thought out music which just happens that a lot of people find refreshing and captivating. I'd give 25 an 8.5 out of 10, compared to 4.25 I gave to AHFOD. While I absolutely do not disapprove or vilify criticism of Adele and am in no position to do so, to see it on a Coldplay forum is rather ridiculous! Especially considering the band's current output.

From 02:24 onward. It's barely audible on the studio version but Jonny does an amazing job with it live. I'm amazed you haven't noticed it! Just search on YouTube for "Another's Arms". The same criticism can be applied to Oceans, especially when you compare it to the live version they did on Max and BBC live.

Not again I'm afraid. I enjoy going to rock concerts and therefore I won't be paying to watch Coldplay; for now. Unless they drastically change their set-lists or come out with an album again that I find worth watching live.

I still have hopes for an entire album full of Ghost Story-like tracks all reminiscent of Parachutes and AROBTTH. ...I actually don't!

They've made some bizarre decisions in terms of production in all albums since MX. I don't know exactly who calls the shots on the final edits but I can't imagine they all agree with the ending on Up&Up or how one of Jonny's best solos is excluded from the studio version of Another's Arms.

Obviously the live version is far superior, but I realized one of the main reasons for this is the ending. The live ending has such an epic feel to it quite reminiscent of "Death And All His Friends". A grave mistake to not include it on the album. Will's drumming is also much more dominant live.

I definitely breathed a sigh of relief after watching it. I think it's one of their better music videos compared to what they've done in recent years but nothing special. Ghost Story still stands out for me as their best since Violet Hill.

Really funny when they did this. As far as I remember it was for a short movie or clip Ash were working on. I don't think it was ever released and what you see is probably just them messing about with whatever the concept was. I've personally always found his voice theraputic and it's not because of all the years listening to him. I believe he's just naturally extremely gifted and also very good with his techniques. I've never tried it but as you say I can imagine how hard it must be to cover his vocals!

I need to get something off my chest...and it may come as a shock to you guys! I'm completely enchanted by Army Of One. I can think of so many reasons why I shouldn't like it but I do. Classic Coldplay ballad of epic proportions. Superb melody, real drums throughout the whole song, great instrumentation and production, Chris's best vocals in a long while and that majestic organ just makes it work for me. It's "Rainy Day" all over again!

I think it's safe to say all our lives are littered with very special Coldplay moments. For me AROBTTH and that entire era will always be very very significant. To discover an album that is so emotionally charged and musically perfect in every single way in that particular period of my life was nothing short of life saving. I knew Pink Floyd and Radiohead were more technically gifted, and I knew I'd get more of a kick listening to U2 or Anathema but no album had ever connected with me on that level, and no album since has! The joy, inspiration and tranquility their first four albums brought me are indescribable. Very few bands are capable of having such profound effects on people and it is exactly because of this that I'm still around, even though I'm extremely pissed off with how things turned out in the past 7 years.

I think unlike Petridis's review of the album this particular piece is very accurate. He avoids attacking the band personally and criticizes the music professionally. I don't agree with everything he says but most of his points are valid.

A huge accomplishment for both the community and Thalia. I'd like to congratulate everyone involved in making it happen. Some aspects of it are disappointing but we shouldn't let anything overshadow such a great achievement. Apart from Linkin Park who do an amazing job with LP Underground bands don't particularly feel comfortable or at ease with meeting their core fan base because of how challenging or even scrutinizing questions and discussions could be so we should all appreciate what we've been given.

Just for the sake of comparison I'd urge everyone to listen to "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming". I know it's unfair to compare the two since I think that album is one of the most original and pure works of art from the past decade and a true masterpiece, but while completely different, they both follow the same themes and patterns, or at least AHFOD tried to. It's not a mainstream album and you may not even get into what it's trying to say but it holds a 9/10 rating and above from many publications including Pitchfork and The Independent, so it's definitely worth a try. If you're already familiar with that album what's your evaluation?

Thanks gai for the interview. I found some of the questions to be more challenging than what we normally see them answer. That would be beyond exciting! I seriously hope it happens but I doubt it since more than half the attendees only know a few Coldplay songs and they're primarily hit singles.
