AROBTTH released 6 years ago today
I cant believe its already been six years! I always loved Parachutes but AROBTTH, sealed the deal for me. I remember wondering if that band that did parachutes would be able to put out a decent sophomore release, and then forgetting about it. Then one late summer night I turned on MTV and who should I see but those Coldplay guys and Chris said something and then started to play the piano opening to "The Scientist". That was it for me, from that moment on I was convinced they were one of the best bands out there. I bought the album at 8am the next morning, and never looked back.

[Article] Smashing Coldplay strategy kept new EMI from being DOA
I disagree I don't think X & Y was a crap album at all. Quite the contrary. I loved it. I agree about their not leaving EMI though. As long as their moving records, and generally happy with the promotion I see no reason they would take the harder road. I know a few bands who ditched a major in favor of striking out on their own and its an uphill battle all the way. The perks of a major seem to out weigh the negatives for them right now. I'm sure if that ever changes the band will be out the door, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Double album
I've always bought double albums if I liked the bands work. I think they are a really cool idea if the band happen to have produced enough songs they think are good enough. I'm not sure we'll ever get one from Coldplay as they seem to have a thing about "short albums" but you never know. I sure would like it.

BBC Love to Hate Coldplay?
The bulk of that piece was total crap, but during the panel discussion I have to admit one of them made some points I agree with. I cant help but feel to a certain degree that this record comes across forced in a way previous records never did. Though I embrace natural change in artists I do get the impression that they all sat down and intended to make this record a certain way and within certain parameters rather than letting their creativity flow and seeing what changes came of it through time. And in throwing out everything that worked for them in the past right down to burying Chris's vocal in case someone recognized it (first comment my sister and I had while listening to the new record), its lost a bit of its magic for me. Unlike the panel members I've always loved the simple but effective picture Chris's lyrics have painted for me. And on quite a few of these songs (Viva la Vida, Violet Hill) I think he's done an exceptional job again, but a few of them seem detached and not as from the heart as his past work. A bit as if again he felt his natural thinking ability might not be adequate and he should spruce it up by 1) writing from a perspective not his own or in such metaphoric terms it can be hard to understand, and 2) just flat out not including many lyrics period. An example for me would be 42, though I enjoy the lyrics he does include in this song, I personally don't feel there are enough. This trend is repeated in songs like Death and All his Friends. So for me, someone whom his lyrics in particular have always resonated with, it was a bit of a let down. But this garbage about people loving to hate coldplay makes me ill, as most of the time people who have a problem with them make some comment to me like "well I like their music but I hate Chris Martin" What the hell?? Unless I'm mistaken a majority of these people have never met the man and base their general dislike on rumors of his eating habits and lifestyle choices. Why they can listen to someone who sleeps around and trashes hotel rooms without blinking an eye but can't lower themselves to listen to a vegetarian who happened to marry an actress is utterly beyond me. And I am so sick of it I kinda freak out on people about it now. It makes no sense to me and I have never seem them attack another musician like that...ever.

Will LIT have a different name on the next album?
I still don't believe it they've talked about plenty of songs in the past that never ended up seeing the light of day. And if its an album of "b-sides" or EP then I'm still in the right as I gave that exception. All I'm saying is that if we get a full on new LP, that song will not be on the tracklisting.

ha ha. I love how the media run with every and any quote.

Could it have been a LOUDER concert?
I didn't notice a volume difference in the songs that I can remember. I did have a little trouble hearing Chris's banter between songs, but I attributed that to the piercing screams that ensued every time he started talking. Why people cant wait until they've heard what he has to say I'll never know. Back to the topic at hand, the venue often has a lot to do with the sound quality. An outdoor venue for example always has pretty crappy sound comparatively.

COldplay Quotes
I will never forget the very first interview/ clip thing my mother ever saw of Chris, was the above. My brother and I just burst out laughing and he's like "sorry mom." Oh lord, it just figures lol.

Coldplay could get into trouble for 'reverse graffiti'
lol pretty clever actually, though I'm not sure how I feel about being surrounded by advertising at all times.

What do you think about the running time of "Viva La Vida" tour concerts???
lol! I have to agree with Maloo I don't think pre-recorded tracks played over the speakers while coldplay aren't even in the room should be counted as part of the show set list. On a lighter note I want to point out that I in no way think their current show isn't worth the money. With all the flaws I can find, Coldplay are still one of the best bands alive right now, and in my opinion of all time. There is honestly for me only one other band on the planet I look forward to touring as much as Coldplay. However that doesn't mean I'm never going to find fault with a single song or performance. I realize how tiring a show of that magnitude must be for them, but I also realize that a lot of bands older than they are go out and do longer shows, yes they have more material but again Coldplay have crossed the 4 album mark, and I think its at least time to begin beefing up the shows. Yes Chris runs around a lot, and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it immensely. He draws the crowd in and looks like he's having a blast which in turn motivates an audience to feel the same. But that said he could sit (at the piano or stand with a guitar) through a couple more tracks and I would still be perfectly happy if that meant I got a few more songs in return. Does that mean that myself and anyone else who thinks that should never attend a concert again on the off chance it wont be perfect ...No!! I'm a firm believer in the fact that I can go to a show objectively and walk away with notes on what I think worked and what didn't, and still have had a kick ass time. I throughly enjoy debating these and other points good and bad on this board. I think as long as everyone is respectful its fun and enlightening to hear other peoples opinions, and I for one wouldn't want to be a part of a board where it was all praise all the time,....Though coldplay might come as close to deserving all praise as any band I've ever had the privilege of listening to.

Why does Hollywood think you're gay if you like Coldplay?
Hollywood daily depicts an "ideal" lifestyle that I would never have anything to do with. The same goes for their ideas on music, I could give a @#%$ what Hollywood thinks is acceptable. And judging by the millions of people who have been buying coldplay albums over the years I don't think I'm alone.
