  3. Coldplay, 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall': Review Coldplay, 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall': Review It’s taken a while, but it finally seems like Coldplay’s formula on how to become one of the world’s biggest bands is finally revealing itself: apparently it’s all down to how you dress. Back when they first arrived in 2000, Chris Martin and co looked all rather dark and sombre - a mood that was reflected in the brooding anthems of ‘Shiver’ and ‘Trouble’. Then, in 2008, as they teamed up with Brian Eno and Markus Dravs for the military marching songs of 2008’s ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’, the band returned looking like a gang of army generals. Three years on and Coldplay are back again with new, apparently graffiti-inspired regalia - and this time it would seem their music is as colourful and explosive as their outfits. New single ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’, which debuted today (June 3), is a blossoming stadium-sized dance anthem, propelled in part by the strength of Martin’s lyrics, which spray paint themselves into your conscience. “I turn the music up, I got my records on, I shut the world outside until the lights come on,” he sings while bashing away on a synth-enhanced piano, which shoots out a simple, yet rave-like hook. As Martin continues to sing like he’s residing in the happiest place on earth (“Catherdrals in my heart”), the colourful musical symphony is driven by Will Champion’s stomping drums and a highland Fling-esque guitar riff, which sounds not too dissimilar to ‘Life In Technicolour’, from ‘Viva La Vida…’. They all come to a head as the song reaches its evocative conclusion, when everything explodes and Martin lets out “Aaahoooos” amid a storm of uplifting guitars and synths. As Coldplay prepare to headline this month’s Glastonbury festival, ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’ is an emphatic litmus test with which to judge people’s readiness for their return. But more poignantly, for a band who already reside in stadiums, their latest incarnation is a splash of colour that sounds like it’s aiming for something a lot bigger - or as Martin puts it: "You can hurt, hurt me bad, But I'll still raise the flag." http://www.gigwise.com/blog/63637/Coldplay-Every-Teardrop-Is-Waterfall-Review
  4. Not what I expected, it is very different, but very, very good. Hopefully it will brush off some of the critics of Coldplay who say they are just slow and depressing!
  5. Coolest thing ever! There album is out! CHECK THEIR WEBSITE NOW!!!! :bomb:
  6. Today was UNBELIEVABLY hot, I have LOADS of sun burn on my arms and neck! :laugh3: But It was a good day, chilling on the beach.
  7. MY REVIEW: 1) This first track sounds VERY familiar, I really love it, starts off with a Piano and then guitars. The vocals sound a bit like...Mew?? The guitars sound like Travis as well hahaha! But my guess would be...Mew!?? 2) Hmm...another Mew sounding track from the sounds of the instruments. Heavy guitar riff. The vocals are different...a different artist from the first track. I have no idea who this is. It's a little depressing, but I like a lot of the instrument work on this track. "All I ever wanted, all I ever needed was here in my arms" Sounds like an 80's track. 3) Electronic riffs! I really like the bass on this. STOP! STOP BREATHING!. I like this. IMAGINE NONE OF THIS REAL, I'LL JUST DANCE THE WAY I FEEL! Probably my favourite so far. 4) Love the instrumentation. Don't like the vocals. It is catchy though! :D 5) I know this voice! BEIRUT!?!?!? Am I right, I think I am. I don't listen to much Beirut, but I like songs like Elephant Gun, I really like this track. I need to listen to more Beirut. 6) I AM KLOOT. I don't really listen to them much myself, but my mate is always playing them, I do have Sky at Night but I haven't really listened to it. I will have to! 7) Sounds a little bit like Chris Martin, but it's not! :laugh3: I reeeeeeally love this song. Oh my god...what is it!?!?!? Starts off very slow and picks up loads of pace and changes into an almost completely different song. WOW. 8) Strange song...the vocals seem to take a back seat at first and then there is no vocals for like half the song to the end, hmm. I think I like. 9) Niiiiiiiiiice. Electronic. Female vocals. I'm not sexist, but I don't really listen to female vocalists, I just don't enjoy them THAT much, there are exceptions. I quite like this one. 10) THE NATIONAL! I'm sure, I can get those vocals straight away. I think I do like them, and they seem to be big on this forum. This summer I am off to Leeds Festival but I am torn between seeing them or Bombay Bicycle Club. If I didn't see them, I think I would regret it! 11) I like the groove, I like the rhythm, I like the vocals. 90's??? Nice. 12) The Naked and Famous- Girls Like You! I only downloaded their album about two weeks ago after hearing Punching In A Dream and THIS song is my favourite on the album after only one listen, It really is very mature for a debut band. Brilliant song. It really is. 13) Very weird song, but I like it, heck I've liked the whole mixtape. A nice little song with weird instruments. 14) A nice acoustic song to end the mixtape, again, I don't know who it is, but I do like it. Nice harmonies. If I'm being honest, after about 3 and 4 mixtape exchanges, this is the best mixtape I have ever been given. Thank you very much!!! :D P.S.: I am just putting the finishing touches to my mixtape, should be done by tomorrow or Saturday!
  8. 7 new songs!! Awesome! :D
  9. They are not being secretive...it's just a small, private gig. Just like a dinner party or something. I'm sure Chris and Gwyneth hold dinner parties but I'm sure they are not going to publicise it every time they do. ;)
  10. Woooah! Rick...how longs it been? :shocked2:
  11. I don't know why...but I voted for Violet Hill. I don't know if it is my favourite song. It might be...hahaha! I couldn't possibly choose one song.
  12. Hmm...a softer new album? I'm not sure what to think of that.
  13. They say "mobile phone users" as it's a certain group of people...EVERYONE uses mobile phones.
  14. iPsy replied to MrMagpie's topic in The World Of Music
I like their style...but the music is a bit too crazy for me. I would love to catch 'em live, which I am hoping to do at Leeds Festival.
  15. Woo! Can't wait! :D
  16. It took a few listens, but I like it. Not as good as most of their old stuff though.
  17. They aren't the worst...but definitely not the best!
