Yes in general I agree, but specific to CA , intention means nothing to them. It´s pretty clear once you get a bit in depth with what that movement is about...and yes I think it´s ultimately destructive, they´re taking things too far.

I think its "staring at darkness, admit defeat" :) The whole song is somber, also the chords, but as all Coldplay songs its about never giving up...putting your hands in the air and off you go to "find that treasure" :) About to finish Royal Albert Hall concert now, listening to ETIAW and speaking of lyrics how cool is this? "Maybe Im in the gap between the two trapezes". WOW :D

I also think he´s been constant throughout , though I think he has outdone himself in AHFOD in terms of memorable lines/quotes haha I think lyrics pre-Viva were much more somber though and perhaps sometimes somber gives the impression of more serious i.e. better/higher quality? it could be a factor. Also pre-Viva they were not much focused on live shows, so the lyrics did not have any uuuh uuuh for example (for the most part), lyrics past Viva are much "lighter" as well, combining both serious reflections but also lighter moments of levity. XMTS is to me the "saddest song" on AHFOD actually haha I said it before but I mean it *lol*

As a little tidbit I will add that on her side she had to have her sister over with her kids for the weekend, but her sister shortly after arriving decided to leave again sort of out of the blue, so she ended up being alone that evening...and meeting me :)

He was afraid of life. Its actually his own quote from one of the Ghost Stories interview, but its pretty evident in the lyrics as well. But I agree with you he was always optimistic and positive ! I would not say he cut out any lyrics which deals with uncertainty or pain. They re to be found aplenty in Ghost Stories and also some in AHFOD (the up-tempo music sometimes "masks" them). Also to be noted that AHFOD is the natural companion to Ghost Stories, so they are both respectively more polarised towards light and darkness. MX if you notice has an equal combo of "positive and negative" lyrics throughout. I think he is still writing the same combo of "life can be hard but there is light at the end of the tunnel", he´s just more free to celebrate now the good part instead of worrying about it. The big thing that was holding him back was precisely the not being able to celebrate the good things (their success for example), worry about what others thoughts, etc.

Lyrics from AHFOD are some of my all time favourites from Coldplay actually. So many memorable quotes and lines. Ghost Stories the lyrics were ultra simple, but even Chris admitted that, saying it was more of a stream of consciousness , it was raw and immediate more than elaborate. Thinking back I like both MX and Viva for their lyrics as well...so to me he´s been pretty constant throughout, though he has changed up the things he talks about and the way he talks about them.

This qualifies as a proper random Coldplay thought, which, like many others, intersect with important moments in my life... I am in a Ghost Stories phase right now and am listening to The Royal Albert Hall concert for the very first time. About 5 songs in I suddenly remembered that back in 2014 I hunted tickets for the gig and a buddy of mine gave me a phone number or something where he said I would be able to get tickets but I had to call that very moment before they sold out. I had planned to take my mum to London and enjoy the concert with her, have a couple of days with each other there (she lives in another country), so it was all sort of planned...but when I went to reach for the phone, something stopped me, just stopped me. I swear I could not get myself to do it, even though I wanted to. After a few attempts I gave up, not knowing what was happening. Fast forward to the day of the gig in July 2014, that very late evening I met the woman who would become the love of my life and we started dating almost immediately. So now Im sat here thinking back at that moment where fate stopped me from going away to London and in doing so allowed me to meet her... #trusttheUniverse

I noticed actually the contrast between the lyrics "with a bulletproof vest and the windows all closed I'll be doing my best" and "leave your broken windows open and in the light just streams" from AHFOD. I was like...wow. This totally epitomizes the change Chris has been through and it totally reflects in his lyrics: from being afraid of life and trying to protect himself to embracing it and allow himself to experience it all, good and bad, because it ultimately is all for the best.

Inspired by the great Carpool Karaoke interview, I dug out one of my absolute favourites Chris interviews, the one with Zane Lowe during Ghost Stories. SO many tidbits here about him and the band. Just such a great intimate interview! Also the moment Fly On plays and Chris eyes moist...instant interview classic. You have to trust the Universe :nod::sunny:
