  1. Thatd have been pretty cool if it were TGTBTQ - because Tony Allen was there as well on drums, but it wasnt a show for them. It was more of a world music show. It was all about the afro-pop/Mali music (from his trip there w/Oxfam in 2000) and showcasing the different artists that had worked with Honest Jon's label. Damon was more often to the side - singing along, clapping, dancing, talking to Tony on drums and dancing - while Simon was off to the side almost in the corners at times playing along (and damn hes f'ing good!). I figure they must have all played together so much the way everyone gelled together. Damon did sing one song - which ended up involving all the other musicians on the stage - a song from Mali music which was just incredible. I must say when Damon sang the crowd went nuts - and this is a concert hall where the Philharmonic plays so it was surreal. I nearly cried I must admit - at 40 years old he looks lovely and sounds as well as he did when I first heard Leisure. Blur was my first love in high school and Damon was everything I wanted in a rockstar! To this day MLIR is still one of my favorite albums. It is pure genius! The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was insane - their family was behind my friend and I and they were going crazy. It was pretty cool seeing all the guys up there - dark sunglasses rocking out on brass. i did hear an interview with him the other day on the radio and he mentioned either Gorillaz or TGTBTQ would have a new album out shortly. (cant remember which he said). Some pics of Damon - as im so in love with him. More pics are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/xneverwherex
  2. My new obsession is finding Coldplay Viva La Vida posters in NYC and taking pics. Unfortunately the one near me disappeared and my picture did as well (that was on 50th & 10th Ave). This one - Me in Forest Hills, Queens 67th Avenue subway stop - R line This one - 2nd Ave subway station F/V line Lower East side
  3. I just got home and saw Simon Tong live tonight. He sounds as great as ever. Him and Damon Albarn fit together so nicely. Cant wait to hear Verve's new stuff. Honest Jon's Revue is worth seeing if anyone gets the chance. Not sure if it was a special show for NYC - but Damon has been getting along quite nicely doing so many great things.
  4. 1. For What Reason - Death Cab For Cutie 2. The Past is a Grotesque Animal - of Montreal 3. What's With Your Brain? - Birdmonster 4. Red House - Wild Light 5. Flag Fall $1.80 - You Am I 6. Watch Me Fall Apart - Hard-Fi 7. Electrolite - R.E.M. (You are a Star tonight - one of my favorite rem songs!) 8. La jeune fille aux cheveux blancs - Camille 9. second GuessinG - R.E.M. (my itunes loves rem apparently tonight) 10. Walk On The Ocean (Welcome Home: Live at The Arlington Theater, Santa Barbara 1992) - Toad the Wet Sprocket (I was at this concert! first year of college at ucsb :D) and Coldplay at 11. Lost? (Acoustic) this is eerie... 12 turned out to be "Try Not To Breathe" - Dappled Cities - (rem cover) - my iTunes only wants REM tonight. its possessed.
  5. hehehe if you think youre confused so am i. they arent sure exactly what on earth i might have pulled/torn - sooooooooo the x-rays will tell me. ugg im pretty sure its not going to be pretty. if i end up in chicago with a f-ed up leg im going to shoot myself. and i have a bunch of shows this coming week - so basically thats not an option. my friend pointed out tonight - hey jumping up and down to Cut Off Your Hands even with the lead singer checking you out, is NOT good for the leg. hahaha shes onto something. if youre ever here kayaking the hudson drop me a line. and im way too slow or out of breath looking like hell hath run me over. hahaha it actually might work, but knowing NY'ers --- oh theres no way in hell. if you happen to be in chicago for lollapalooza - we must say hi. and yes - yellow is a perfect nature song. it reminds me of california when i could hit the beach and spend all night staring at the stars.
  6. oohh i hope i win. the last time i won stuff from filter mag the f'ing blackout in new york city happened so the show i was supposed to see (the dandy warhols) never happened. now that was a bummer.
  7. hahah i dont think its the video (or at least i dont think it can be). although it does make me laugh.
  8. Bicycle Thieves - my favorite local band from Virginia - and some of the nicest guys (cute too :) ) need some love! Help them open for Coldplay in WDC. If I find their CD at home, Ill even send it to everyone that wants to hear their earlier stuff - but Id imagine theyre online too. So, a coupla things. 1. The rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We still exist. 2. You might have caught us at the Celebrate Fairfax festival in June. Then again, you might have stayed home since it was 110 out and we nearly melted. 3. Vote for us so we can open for Coldplay! All you have to do is go to this link, where we are the first band listed on the page: http://www.coldplayontour.com/wwdc/ You can vote once from work and once from home. Please send this around to everyone you know and don't know. Thanks! Bicycle Thieves http://www.bicyclethieves.com
  9. Vote For Bicycle Thieves to Open in DC! The guys in this band (Bicycle Thieves) are so nice - and not only are they nice - but they are damn good! And my favorite local band from Virginia (when I lived there). Vote Vote Vote! (please!) So, a coupla things. 1. The rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We still exist. 2. You might have caught us at the Celebrate Fairfax festival in June. Then again, you might have stayed home since it was 110 out and we nearly melted. 3. Vote for us so we can open for Coldplay! 11. Ive not listened to Monaco in ages - but that also reminds me I've seen Hooky play live :) I cant believe I forgot I saw Monaco. The video for that with Hooky playing bass in the beginning is sweet! There is one thing that I would die for It's the music, my life is in your hands Cause when you're near me, your love is all I need Now I can't imagine What do you want from me? It's not how it used to be You've taken my life away Ruining everything
  12. oohhh lets hope my luck has changed. although i just found out i have to have x-rays on my left leg on monday as its likely i pulled a muscle from running. but the good news is - i did learn that a) kayaking is free in NY from 5-7 on the hudson river piers and b) its one of the quietest and most beautiful spots of the city that the whole world hasnt yet found out about and c) lots of cute guys bicycle and run there (i think theyre all gay - but doesnt matter - makes for good eye-candy)... naturally i have a bad feeling this sports doc will say 'rachel - running not so good you really f-ed up your leg - do yoga instead'. actually that wouldnt be so bad. either way - next time im down there im bringing my ipod and listening to yellow as the stars appear with a view of Jersey across the water. *sigh*
  13. Mani of the Stone Roses and now Primal Scream is an incredible bassist. Id add him to any list. And of course, Peter Hook (new order and Joy Division).
  14. awesome interview. Thanks so much for posting. Just killed an hour or so reading it at work :)
  15. i was at a bar tonight in midtown (new york city), and they were playing all 80's music. it somehow went from erasure to PYT (michael jackson) then to prince. good stuff. and i was thinking damn they really should play some coldplay. and not long after my mind was wandering (which it does 24/7) since i have this great fantasy ill run into chris at some nondescript bar - some guy walks in who looks very similar to him. i nearly jumped off the chair, but realized it would be so rude to leave my date. the CM look alike did notice me nearly falling off the chair and smiled. damn it - wasnt the real thing. right about now this is all i can think 'im drunk for your love - speak to me now, speak to me someone'. f*** i really need sleep - my head is spinning which is not making for a good night. ill go to sleep imagining chris was martin holding my hand singing to me (martin = lead singer of gene - who serenaded me at one concert before begging me to go home with him. argh. why wasnt it mr martin instead of just plain martin). hahaha oh i so need sleep im beyond drunk
  16. oh the things that picture makes me want to do :D
  17. I just read an article (to add perspective) and Yaz opened their tour in the bay area playing an 80 min set and 20 songs. Then again Yaz only ever released 2 albums. 90mins isnt that bad for a set, but yeah it'd be nice if they could play longer. Perhaps I could have my wish as I did with the Dandy Warhols when they had 'an evening with the dandy warhols' and played for 3 hours. no openers just them. all i can say it was f'ing incredible. And they did this right after they released their 4th album if i recall correctly (probably were trying to piss off capitol records also) :) one can only dream!
  18. I was searching for some info on James playing with Squeeze and came across this which was more exciting (well actually ive always wanted to see James), but these pics are awesome :) http://blogs.msg.com/themonitor/2008/06/photos-coldplay.html Photos: Coldplay Live at Madison Square Garden Photo: David Atlas Chris Martin looks pretty excited up there (and in here), and who can blame him? He played a to a packed Garden on Monday, and now he's got the #1 album in the U.S. (and a few other countries as well.) Did you miss Coldplay's free show at Madison Square Garden? Don't worry, we have plenty of goodies to make you feel like you were right there. Click here for photos from the concert, and check the setlist: Coldplay at Madison Square Garden, June 23, 2008 "Life in Technicolor" "Violet Hill" "Clocks" "In My Place" "Viva la Vida" "Chinese Sleep Chant" "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" "42" "Square One" "Trouble" "Lost" "Strawberry Swing" "Yellow" "Death Will Never Conquer" "Fix You" "Lovers in Japan" And the other pics (these pics are great and all, but where is Guy? :( I dont even know if Johnny was in any of them):
  19. my thoughts exactly - which is why im beyond excited to write im seeing Damon Albarn on Saturday night!
  20. When Anger Shows - Editors
  21. oh yes - didnt even think about that :) - its way apparent ive not been to a huge show in a long time, and the last time i did that i waited 1/2 a day to be in the very front when interpol played MSG. there was no way i was even thinking about merch :D
  22. thats why you buy merch before the show -- its usually much less crowded plus a bigger selection as often times things sell out. Lately stuff has been so expensive at shows, but Ive taken a liking to buying bands music at shows (for smaller bands).
  23. Ive been randomly inserting band names (or other lyrics from Coldplay) into other bands music. My favorite new song title is Chris, I love you... But youre bringing me down i think its much better sounding than New York I love you, But Youre Bringing Me Down. It also reminds me of my friend chris in australia (who in turn reminds me of chris martin) who is seriously breaking my heart. well he does have a girlfriend and we're in this f-ed up situation - but he told me tonight when he comes to Canada he's bringing her and when he goes to Paris she'll be there too. We were planning on having some sordid rendez vous in both the places. Needless to say - my song is very apropros right now. i cant think of my other songs at the moment - but they tend to be LCD Soundsystem songs for some bizarre reason.
  24. Well i still love Fran and Travis and its a pity they never got bigger. But in my selfish way its nice I can still see them at smaller clubs. I think Coldplay has definitely made it their own music and their new stuff is definitely a different turn. So yeah - I def dont see them a total rip-off of Travis anymore (and havent for a long time). Travis has changed too. Im sure having kids, marriage, etc changes people. I still think they both make brilliant music.
