Jersey nightclub bans girls for being 'too fat'!!
The purpose of allowing girls into a club for free is to attract male punters. If you give the same priviledge to unattractive girls, it defeats the point... business is not about being fair. While I disagree with the tactless manner in which the manager acted, there is no good way of saying "you are not attractive enough". You also have to take the "journalism" with a pinch of salt; it's the Mirror. I would not be surprised if the girls had behaved provocatively. The article certainly sounds like it was written with an agenda.

The Dark Knight
I have a few minor complaints: 1. Over censorship of violence and blood (but I suppose they had to, to make it 12A) 2. How did Twoface speak with such good enunciation... I mean... how could he make "b" and "p" sounds etc. 3. The ferry scene annoyed me because of the game theory oversight (I won't go into it) in favour of some populist Socratic belief that people will invariably choose "good" over "evil" with no incentive beyond itself. Not quite strong enough to make my top 10, but Dark Knight was thoroughly entertaining throughout. 9/10

Rate the latest movie you've seen
Wall-E The first half hour is incredible and easily the best and bravest thing that Pixar has ever done. Then it gradually deteriorates into cliche. 8.5/10 overall.

Life in Technicolor: what do you think?
LiT starts off slowly, but then simmers and boils into something so melodic and uplifting, climaxing with Chris' tribal call to arms. It feels like there is a song missing though... I don't think the introduction to CoL follows on very well.

Lovers in Japan
I prefer the acoustic version. It feels more intimate and sounds less like U2.

Strawberry Swing is supringly my favoritetrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Strawberry Swing made me smile from the first listen and remains my favourite song on the album. I particularly like the lyric "people moving all the time/inside a perfectly straight line/don't you wanna just curve away?"; simple but so effective when Chris croons it in his best nostalgic daydream voice. I think the song captures brilliantly the way we look back on the past through rose tinted lenses (was it really a perfect day?).

why is LOST! so popular
I think lyrically, Lost! is pants... bordering on cringeworthy. I love the instrumentation though, and Jonny's solo. It is one of the weaker tracks on the album and I often find myself skipping it.

Favorite Pixar film to date?
Ratatouille works on multiple levels. The animation itself is spectacular, the sewer sequences in particular, but behind the gloss is an intelligent story with real charm. The underlying message may not be original, but the execution was brilliant.

G-ATE summit??
We play tiddlywinks occasionally. I disagreed with the common viewpoint and justified it objectively. What did I do to deserve such condescending sarcasm? Pompous? Pot calling kettle etc.
-
G-ATE summit??
Yes. Yes I am.
-
G-ATE summit??
Irrelevant normative populist tangential digression. :P

G-ATE summit??
This is Japanese cuisine... where one course is roughly the equivalent of three slices of fish with a sculptured radish... The whole article is extraneous as far as I am concerned.

Yes - a sleeper hit?
I could not stand Yes on the first couple of listens... thought it was overproduced, but now it makes my top 5 off the album. It feels briefly like Radiohead when that acoustic guitar first kicks in after the distorted strings.

G-ATE summit??
Another instance of sensationalist journalism that kicks up a fuss over nothing. Ever heard of hospitality? Imagine the Japanese offering the world leaders plain rice rolls and miso soup... oh please. This was a lose-lose situation because a humble meal would have been reported as an empty gesture (which funnily enough, the summit was).

Global Warming: Is The Debate Over?
I will offer two caveats to the debate: 1. Having spent considerable time in academic circles, I will assert that a significant number of scientific papers are subject to confirmation bias and are therefore spurious (particularly second rate research from less recognized institutions). Unless the conclusion is mathematically provable, there is room to manouvre for academics to conclude an open ended hypothesis either way (invariably in the best interests of the researcher). Note that though statistical methods provide useful indicators, they are not conclusive. 2. Academics have a clear conflict of interest; they have an incentive to discover controversial or dramatic findings, because it offers exposure and secures future funding. You would have to be incredibly naive to believe that the exponential growth in the US climate research budget is entirely attributed to need. Behind the very public pantomime, the following is what one can rationally conclude: * The Earth warms and cools frequently and cyclically. * Humans have probably impacted and continue to impact this process, but not to the extent that doom mongers would like you to believe. * It is probably too late (and logistically impossible) to reverse these impacts. That is all.
