Sheila Take A Bow - The Smiths
  2. I completely agree. For most artists, I don't need to hear more than 8-10 songs. I would prefer they make those songs count instead of adding filler. More times than not, any CD over 10 songs is just too long for me.
  3. I agree. Look at the iTunes top sales. The singles always belong to pop artist while the albums tend to be more rock oriented.
  4. You remember correctly. I am a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, and I won't download any of their singles. If they would put it on an album or EP, I would go and get it. Billy thinks the album is already dead, and it may very well be heading that way. But for now, I still want a complete collection of songs. Billy is acting all cynical (big surprise) and bucking the system (another big surprise) by refusing to put out albums any longer. He is crazy anyhow. That's the reason he is the only Pumpkin left.
  5. What happened to their new album? I have not heard anything for some time.
  6. I hope not, but it is entirely possible. I guess I could be happy if EPs were put out on a fairly regular basis. I'm usually not a fan of stand alone singles. I much prefer a collection of songs from a particular time.
  7. It's hard to say with the Killers. If Brandon Flowers drops out, there will be no more Killers. If someone else drops out (which I think is likely), then I think the Killers could make it. I feel one thing is certain: Brandon Flowers will be making music 30 years from now. He is just too ambitious. The only question is whether or not he is doing it with the Killers. By the way, my guess is that Mark is the first to drop out of the Killers. He always strikes me as a big baby.
  8. You don't think so? I do...but I may be wrong.
  9. Coldplay and Radiohead will always be fine. They have each established a huge fan base.
  10. It's good question. I would say you have to add Green Day to the list. They are almost there already. Pearl Jam, Radiohead, and Red Hot Chili Peppers will probably make it, too. I think it also matters how you get there. If you get to 30 years with almost all the original members intact, I would say that's a pretty strong achievement. But bands that have these indefinite hiatus all the time, or they'll still tour behind the band name but there will only be an original member or two still around - not that impressive.
  11. I don't even know who they are.
  12. I love Morrissey's usage of words. He writes lyrics that no one else would think to write. And when he does, he often taps into a feeling or emotion that is commonly shared but no one thinks that it is. Sometimes he misses and his lyrics are whiney, but overall, he is one of the most brilliant lyricists I know of.

Nice pictures. Those are some high quality images. Thanks for sharing.
  14. I've always found Thom to be a very emotional singer. I never really think about his technical abilities. His voice is just believable and genuine, which makes up for any other shortcomings. I do think his voice was "sharper" in some of the early Radiohead songs. The vocals are really crisp in songs like High and Dry and Fake Plastic Trees. I don't know if they are still as sharp, but he still sings with as much passion.
  15. I don't want to nit pick, but Radiohead are clearly not making it on their looks. I'm just sayin...

The vinyl thing was intentional. Origami music only sells vinyl (from what I remember). It was a way that the store was supposed to get some sales and exposure, and Jonsi was supposed to get a little promotion and offer a unique experience for his fans. Didn't work out, though.
  18. I know nothing about art. That said, I love Stanley Donwood's work, especially the stuff from the Eraser. I just thought it was so cool.
  19. I bought it last week and have been listening to it recently. Still a little too new to form an opinion, but so far so good  I know I've said it before, but I think the Immortals is a great song. I saw it live and was blown away. Big chorus (I know old school fans hate it) and good lyrics. It's a win to me.

^ No doubt. But he was shy before he booked gigs. I'm a big believer in fulfilling obligations. You never have to do it again, but finish what you signed up for. Not that I really care. He's free to do what he wants. I skipped the instore all together because I knew it was going to be a zoo.

^ Nice review! I had a similar experience - absolute shock at the politeness of the crowd. I wish more shows were like that. The stage show is fabulous. It really compliments the music perfectly. I got the signed DVD, too. $15 is such a bargain.
  22. ^ I do, too, but I'm sure I would butcher it :D
  23. That's awesome!
  24. Wow - 20 years! I still remember being a freshman in high school and picking up "Ten." My taste in music was never the same after that.

Yeah, the thing I don't like is that he signed up to do the shows, and people bought his vinyl album and made travel plans based on this. If you don't like the small shows, then you never have to do them again. But at least fulfill your obligation.
