Not really a fan, but they had a good run with ocean ave and only one. This type of music, the emo/punk/pop mixture, is rarely done well. Everyone likes music to be emotional - that's the whole point. But when you start sounding whiney or desperate, I can't stand it. Certainly, it's a fine line. Yellowcard usually falls on the whiney side of the line for me.

That's a cool video. I have not seen it for some time. Even then, only so many cameos you can do. Besides, I don't think Brandon will allow too long of a break - he's too ambitious. As for the rest of the band, I don't know, and that is what worries me. This band needs to be working. Their drive is part of what has made them great. Plus, their last album was good, but not fantastic. They've got something to prove.

Yeah, I get the desire to be off the road. But how long does it take to get back to writing new material? What do you do with your day if your not working on something?

How much time does one need? What's he going to do, spend his days staring at his ceiling? His Mom died, and that's sad. You take time to grieve and you move on. That's what everyone does. If my Mom dies, I get 5 days of paid leave and am expected back to work. That's the way it should be. So I still don't get the reason for a prolonged break.

And.....

Yeah, I am sure Dustland Fairytailes has taken on a whole new meaning for Brandon. It's funny how songs do that. When we say break, what are we talking about? Time off the road? I mean, I get that part. But I don't understand why they need this lengthy break. They are musicians; this is what they do for a living. They are all young. How much of a rest should they need? I never got that. I mean, following that logic, I could really use an extended break from my job, but it is not going to happen. I don't understand the NEED part.

I know. I would have taken Interpol or the Fray. I won't go watch Lenny Kravitz. This is the second time SoCal gets screwed. Great openers the last time around, and who do we get...Black Eyed Peas. I skipped that, too.

That's cool. I am happy they are back to performing again. I am not surprised they are back. For Brandon, I would think his time on stage would be a welcomed distraction.

Yeah, i have all their cds (which are only 4), and i still end up listening to Wave of Mutilation (best of...) the most. It's perfect for the average fan, or a big fan who just wants many of the high points. Gouge Away and Debaser are must listens.

This article was written a year ago, so I'm not sure if it still holds true. Nevertheless, still good to hear some Kings news.

I don't think I said I didn't love all their albums. I do. But each album has been weaker than the previous, IMO. I didn't know we were talking about me. I'm talking abot the fact that every album has sold half of the prior album.

^^ ok, remove popularity from the conversation. Each album has been worse than the past. I agree with the general public on this one.

^ no doubt. I am not saying they should strive for top 40 popularity, but what good is it to make records that very few people care about? That's been the path they have been on. And instead of addressing the situation, they make a bunch of solo albums. That's their choice, I guess. I like the strokes, but they are hardly relevant any longer.

They may have no desire to be the biggest band in the world, but they at least need to be producing good music. I had a brief conversation with Nick about this issue. I asked him why "you only live once" was not the first single off "first impressions...". He said, "because our label is stupid." That was clearly the most marketable song off the last album, but it wasn't released as a single until the album was dead. This tells me that they have an interest in maintaining some degree of popularity. Julian has also said it's important to him to avoid writing songs that are only appealing to a small minority. Well, if that's the case, they are going about it the wrong way. Since "this is it," each album has performed more poorly than than the last.

The funny thing about the pixies is that it doesn't matter how popular they are. So many musicians have named them as an inspiration that their legacy is secure.

I still don't understand the reason for such a delay. Are they working with Axl Rose? Is this Chinese Democracy II?

Is this it is fantastic. And this new album better be good too after this long of a wait.

Some of my favorite songs are: Gouge Away, Bone Machine, Hey, Debaser, U-Mass, and Dig for Fire. Monkey Gone To Heaven is another classic, but it's not really a personal favorite of mine. Some of their stuff is pretty weird.
