  1. Crazy good stuff -- I wonder what the band would think of this is they saw it?
  2. I dunno about anyone else but the Chris/Jon combo for "Christmas In New York" has me more excited than any of the other titles (except for maybe "Paradise") Two years in a row with new Coldplay Christmas songs? That would make me very very happy indeed :)
  3. This is really bumming me out.. every time I hear more and more about LP5, the less faith I have that it's going to top Viva.. :( [praying for a double album]
  4. Strawberry Swinger & QuestionsOfScience -- I'm with you too, we wait 3 years for an album and that's the title we get..? I'm digging "Up With The Birds" as a song and a title, much better than Mylo Xyloto and Major Minus in my opinion
  5. Huge fan of Lost? at open mics (I played that at one at Busboy's & Poets in DC this winter) I don't know if this would fit into your little mini set at all but "Postcards From Far Away" is a fun little piece to play and might be interesting to start with. You know, like show off some piano skills first and get the audience on your side and then start singing after that confidence boost. Also, if you can get the sustain pedal working for you "Reign of Love" can sound gorgeous solo piano. And when you say "Yellow (Acoustic)" do you mean like the one Chris did for the radio station where he played it all slow? Cheers and good luck!! :)
  6. Urghh such a tease! I got so excited before I saw that hastag grrr tricky trick R#42...
  7. I'm thinking Gravity and Chinese Sleep Chant (unless CSC is popular and I just never realized it)
  8. Backing tracks is literally my only complaint about Coldplay.. They really don't need them, just as an example of a song, take Lost! (one which surprisingly has not been brought up yet..) The organ is insanely important to the song but it's played by a backing track, my question is why don't they get someone like Jon Hopkins to come on tour and play it for them (I'm not positive about this but I feel like that's him playing that part in the studio). He's definitely not some "random schmuck" which I think is an excellent point. Plus if they had a 5th member to play keyboards and what not then I feel like setlists could be much more easily changed and there's a less risk of them completely screwing up (which is what Will did during the French festival where he set off the strings for IMP at the wrong time?) My final thought is that it looks weird when the backing tracks are played and literally no one is playing (I'm thinking of Swallowed In The Sea here -- and that's a real shame because it's a lovely track that I really want to see return to sets) So no. No backing tracks. p.s. huge pet peeve of mine is during the verse in Clocks. That is one backing track that should either be played by Jonny (instead of him standing there doing nothing) or taken out completely and let Chris mess around on the piano with the sustain pedal on. Just a thought. Hope the post wasn't too long! Cheers!
  9. It's weird but every time I hear this song in a new format (on the radio, live, now the video) I like it more and more.. I have to admit I had my doubts at first with this song, but it's steadily climbing up my list of favorites. Love the video! Those awesome paint effects in the background almost overpowered the band!! haha
  10. Echoing tesseract's post my hopes for LP5 goes a little something like this.. 1. MX 2. Hurts Like Heaven 3. ??? 4. Major Minus 5. ??? 6. ??? 7. Us Against The World 8. Princess of China 9. ??? 10. Charlie Brown 11. ??? and I don't think ETIAW or Moving To Mars will appear on the final tracklist (but if ETIAW my bet's that it'll be the last song)
  11. Favorite of all the new songs we've heard. It was awesome that they played Life Is For Living at Rock Am Ring, but I think this would be/will be a great set closer (like the last song played before the encore)
  12. I'm not sure about how I feel if "Major Minus" is the album title, spending 3 years on an album and that's the best they can come up with..? I don't feel like it's that catchy, but it's definitely better than anything else rumored so far.
  13. Just plain awesome. I know you do it by ear but would you mind transcribing it or writing down the chords for those of us that aren't as talented as you? :)
  14. Idk what the rest of you guys think about the new songs, but certainly on Hurts Like Heaven and Charlie Brown Jonny is playing some serious guitar.. and I think I like it. New nickname idea: Jonny B. Goode ("Go, Jonny, Go!"
  15. Hahah did anyone else see the job offer posted on GP's twitter today? Reminds me of this little post (and the twitter posts asked for resumes to be sent to Jimmy Fallon, so it's clearly a joke)
  16. @Noemie OoooOOoOOo weirddd Idk how I feel about that... haha I was so confused when I saw "Charlie Brown" hahah thanks for correcting me! :)
  17. AWESOME SHOW Any doubts I may have had from ETIAW are put to rest.. I am so happy that they mixed up the setlist from yesterday, hope that continues for the rest of the summer Song by Song breakdown: MX: Little intro? Good lead into Hurts Like Heaven: i'm digging it, chorus seems solid, we'll see how it develops from more listens Yellow: classic, has to be played every show and a good way to get the audience into it after two new songs In My Place: Fantastic as usual, like the confetti early in the show, makes the stage all pretty for the rest of it :) Major Minus: Again, good on first listen, bet it'll get even better.. kinda dark, but it's a cool song.. not sure why "Major Minus" is the title though Lost!: I like the addition of the balloons for this one, plus Singing In The Rain outro was a nice touch Cemeteries Of London: interesting to see this guy pop up, but I love it and think it's one of the most underrated from VLV God Put A Smile Upon Your Face: LOVE LOVE LOVE the new into, Chris fingerpicking the electric sounded soo cool Violet Hill: was not expecting this to pop up, but they have a big catalogue and I hope they remember that when making their setlists this summer! The Scientist: my favorite Coldplay song, so happy to see it return to it's full form and not that acoustic version Us Against The World: Reminded me a lot of Til Kingdom Come but that's not necessarily a bad thing! Politik: Perfectly placed in the setlist, great energy and sliding into VLV after that mini piano intro/outro was awesome Viva La Vida: just like Yellow, got the audience to go crazy Cartoon Heart: probably my favorite new song that they played, that guitar riff was amazing (I know the live stream called it "Charlie Brown" but I think "Cartoon Heart" is the real name) Life Is For Living: WHAT?! Can't wait for more surprises like this one.. ---- Clocks: Well, yeah, not what I wanted to hear, but they had to play it. Fix You: This song is made for encores, I loved the Swallowed In The Sea > Fix You Encore from the X&Y tour, hope they bring that back Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall: I like this song more and more everytime I hear it, and I cannot imagine how awesome it must have been to hear as the finale in the rain! *Jonny Buckland, picking up a stratocaster was the greatest decision you've every made
  18. I made a comment about him using a stratocaster a month or two ago in another thread and was scoffed at.. looks like I was right after all.. :D
  19. I just can't help myself from loving this song, and I don't care if it's 'not creative' or 'boring' to some people, it's a lead single and it's a fun one at that. But it also bears the mark of Coldplay lead singles, they're good, but not the best on the album and Jonny always has some killer riff (Shiver, In My Place, Violet Hill). If it's treated like anyone of those songs I'll be perfectly happy.. as a potential album closer I'm not so sure.. but please please Jonny don't let this be the only song where you actually play guitar, please let it carry over for the entire album once!
  20. 1. Half Of My Heart - John Mayer (feat. Taylor Swift) 2. I'm Scared - Duffy 3. Bad (Live) - U2 4. Hold On True - O.A.R. 5. The Bad Thing - Arctic Monkeys 6. Cigarette Smoke Fion - Arctic Monkeys 7. Neon - John Mayer 8. Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel 9. Keeping My Baby - Duffy 10. Streetlife Serenader - Billy Joel 11. Staring At The Sun (New Mix) - U2 12. Dig It - The Beatles 13. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John 14. Burn Down The Mission - Elton John 15. Set Down Your Glass - Snow Patrol 16. I Like Dirt - Red Hot Chili Peppers 17. The Goldrush - Coldplay 18. Anywhere Like Heaven - James Taylor 19. Stop - Pink Floyd 20. 505 - Arctic Monkeys Okay, only 1 out of 20, which seems weird especially considering how many other duplicates I had. But I supposes statistically it makes sense considering the fact that there are 137 Coldplay songs on my iPhone out of 2218 total (it's a 6.17% chance of getting a Coldplay song on shuffle or a little bit above 1 out of every 20).
  21. A little bit more obscure but Moses or Gravity would be amazingg
