  1. I like the whole graffiti thing Coldplay has done so far. It's really cool. But I'd love even more x5 the UFO theme they've been hinting at along the way as well. Guy's really cool bass guitar sports the acronym, the Coldplay site is full of pink and blue colors, the MX paper opens up to UFO, and the sweet Live Transmissions sequence beams up a word. Other than that though we've gotten no hint of this theme at all. Not in any of the new songs. And of course there's at least half the album we haven't heard, if not more should some of the new songs not make it. But I can't help but wonder; how will they work it in as a prevailing theme alongside the graffiti theme that's already been seemingly well established? Have they phased it out besides maybe one song? All of the new songs seem to hint at a back story but it doesn't seem related to UFO's at all (Although I can't help but think a UFO/ alien invasion could definitely be considered a "Major Minus" if they're hostile). I know this is all speculation but I'm curious to know what my fellow Coldplay's think about this topic. No one's brought it up recently (i don't believe, sorry if I'm stealing anyone's thunder here!).
  2. Same here. It seems like it's easier to be down on the Every Teardrop lyrics when all we had was them and not the actual music. Coldplay's awesome music draws the eye away from the lyrics which aren't always incredible.
  3. I agree. And if it's out of all of them, Clocks. With The Scientist a close second. :D Of the new ones, Charlie Brown. With Us Against the World a close second. :]
  4. They're not classical composers. Simple can be great and complicated can be dreadful all the same. I'd rather have simple beauty and elegance over complex trash and superfluousness any day. If it sounds good what's the difference?
  5. I wouldn't say that. But it's certainly not the worst. Not as bad as "Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me A-Ha A-Ha" as far as I'm concerned.
  6. lol aww I love this :] And you had me there for a sec. :P And I can't wait to find out what other songs will be on the album!!! Car Kids was on Chris' shirt right? And Golden Arrow. I'm pretty sure that was on screen at one of the concerts. Then there's MTM and DLIBYH and the twenty five other songs they revealed at the South Bank Show. So many possibilitiessss. All these titles are/probably will be kind of odd but I really like them too. That just seems to be Coldplay's style these days (; Unorthadox titles and still pretty epic music! I just want to know the tracklist soooo badddd!!!!
  7. So I THOUGHT that they did- I swear I remember seeing it on one of the setlists. And you know what? I just went through all of the setlists from the VLV tour on WikiColdplay and it wasn't played. On. A. Single. One! So I fess up. A false statement by mwah. :| Lo siento. There goes my credibility for the day!
  8. It's all good man. No worries. And that's definitely true- some people couldn't love the songs more and some people seem to hate them. Oh. I didn't know they did that. I like Arcade Fire but I'm not as knowledgeable with them as with other bands say Coldplay or Radiohead. I did know about the Markus connection though. :] And I could see how that could suggest Coldplay's new single is a double a side. Plus, it's on all of their clothes like you said so that's gotta have some significance. I don't know, I mean I just find it hard to believe that they would play 5/6 new songs from the album when it's not going to be out until at least late summer I imagine. But if that's the case then so be it. We'll still get another 4 or 5 that we haven't heard and all the ones we have are really great as far as I'm concerned! Especially CB, HLH, and UATW. I have no idea though. I'm really anticipating the tracklist release so we can clear a lot of stuff up and be sure of what's going on it. That's my favorite part of the whole album process- finding out the songs that made it. Besides listening to the finished product course! :)
  9. You're going about this all wrong. I have nothing against the new songs. Three of them are absolutely incredible and I could hardly ask for better! But how often do bands release double a sides these days? Not often. And again. Why did they release ETIAW digitally as a stand alone if it's a double a side? That makes no sense at all. They've clearly set it apart from Major Minus. They played A Spell a Rebel Yell at some early VLVDAAHF concerts and that ended up a b side so clearly they have in the past. Although you do have a point, they probably wouldn't have it as a major part of their clothing if it wasn't an important song.
  10. This is true. I just haven't heard of many bands that do that. Radiohead and Queen- that's it. I'm sure there are others who've done it but I mean. How common is that really in music these days? I'd say it was (a lot) more common in the 70's and 80's than today. And they only mentioned ETIAW when they first announced it. Wouldn't they have highlighed BOTH tracks if that were the case? idk. Just trying to make sense of this. I think that'd be really cool/neat honestly. :] That's a pretty good point. This is the only thing that makes me doubt the idea that these songs won't make it on the album.
  11. Now that Major Minus was confirmed as a b-side my mind's starting to reel. No Coldplay b-side has ever made an album in the past so I don't see why that would change now. What if all the songs they're playing are just b-sides to forthcoming singles or songs they don't plan on putting on the record? As great as Charlie Brown, Hurts Like Heaven, and Us Against the World are I can't help but wonder. I'm almost lead to think ETIAW might be the only song of all the new ones that actually end up on the new album (and it's my least favorite of them). I read here someone say it might not even make it either, considering all the new songs Chris is writing and the 'hundreds' of songs to choose from as Guy put it on the BBC Interview yesterday. I'm definitely speculative as to why they would play half of the new album months before releasing it. What do you think?
  12. It seems like a concrete possibility.
  13. I think we can rest assured from here on out that it's not going to be the title of the new album. Although I would've liked it to be at any rate. Moreover, I'd go out on a limb and point out that no b-side on a Coldplay single has ever made an album. This from knowledge and from just checking a few minutes ago. So I personally feel it's safe to say Major Minus won't be on the tracklist. Which is okay with me. Charlie Brown, Hurts Like Heaven, and Us Against the World are better :P as far as I'm concerned anyway and leaves room for more new stuff as well! :) I can't help but wonder what other songs will be on the iTunes digital bundle...whatever it though, I now plan on going out and buying an itunes card to get them!
  14. WE TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU COLDPLAY. Put every single song on there. DOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTTT! You won't! You won't! No nuggets!!!! :D
  15. 'Don't Panic' guys, I'm sure they'll probably maybe possibly give us some new info. [: ;P
  16. Both of them is even more exciting! Didn't he say not until 6 though? :S ah well. That's only an hour and a half away. And i should've realized he wouldn't start off the show with one of the world's biggest bands. By waiting to interview them until the last hour he's increasing the listener count with people waiting to hear about Coldplay. Very smart Mr. Lamacq. Wish you'd just interview them now though. :PPP
  17. Listening!!! only twenty minutes to go! :] Really excited. I mean, I know they haven't said much in the past. But we've got to be really close to the album being finalized. I mean especially Will's tweet about organizing a tracklisting for the new album. They never said they were doing that in the past! :D I'm optimistic he will reveal something important here. Unrelated: It's so disappointing and sad as an American. When you listen to a station in the UK like this. And you realize how much better the popular music of today is there compared to here. I mean 90-95% of the stuff today is complete garbage. Just my opinion but seriously. UK Music>>>>>>>>US Music :P
  18. Can't agree more. I always find myself singing the words to that song. Especially the beginning. Smoke is rising from the houses people burying their dead *I ask somebody what the time is but time doesn't matter to them yet* *People talking without speaking Trying to take what they can get* I ask you if you remember Prospekt, how could I forget? **= bestttt! Seriously! That one and Us Against the World! :] Both really good. If anyone is anywhere near thinking these are bad Coldplay lyrics, you cannot be for real. May I remind you of "The Disaster at Sea": You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me and that's what made me see where I was going wrong and I could write a song a hundred miles long well that's where i belong and you belong with me Honestly. When you remember this, you can't say much about the new lyrics. Even Every Teardrop. Sidenote: even despite the dreadful lyrics, I think Swallowed in the Sea is pretty good. It's the music that really counts as is evident. :P As well as how the lyrics are sung and how they're used in the song. So, yeah.
  19. Completely agree!!! Those THREE songs are absolutely amazing and I don't see why they would leave them off the album! Especially Charlie Brown and Us Against the World. :) Major Minus is pretty good too but I wouldn't be terribly depressed to not see it on the album. Same with Every Teardrop, which incidentally I like even less and Princess of China as well.
  20. I would respectfully like to inform you that is untrue. Someone keeps adding all the songs we're finding out more recently to that list for some reason. (Except for Major Minus and Charlie Brown which had been Cartoon Heart :P) I'm not sure why but it is what it is. I still have the original list saved as a Microsoft Word doc. from two years ago. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, Hurts Like Heaven, Princess of China, Up with the Birds and Us Against the World were NOT songs confirmed by the South Bank Show. They were all discussed/talked about much later. Additionally, the rest of the titles were originally there. I was actually wondering this same question. I see no relation between Major Minus and Up with the Birds and I have no clue where that idea came from. I'm very curious to know as well.
  21. I think Major Minus is an awesome song. All of the new ones I feel are consequently, and that one title is up there. Not quite as good as Charlie Brown or Hurts like Heaven though. ;D for me anyway. I'd love it if that was the title of the new album! I'm not completely sure why though. I like the double M's, the balance of 5 letters in each word, and just the originality of it. All great things. :] And how they always name the album after a song. Epic. But Major Minus could mean many different things. The upbeat vibe of the new songs reminds me of the major scale, which tends to make a bright or joyous melody. Didn't locust say something about the title relating to music in one of the past threads? I remember it vividly. Anyway, it could also more simply mean something significant. Which leads me to believe the title could translate to something like having a significant disadvantage in life. Last idea? Just the guys using juxtaposition again to highlight the disparity between things, people or situations as previously noted.
  22. I partially agree with locust. I think the song ETIAW is a fairly good but it's not very nearrrrr as good as the other new songs played in the concert. The other ones are on a different level it seems. I wouldn't be sad at all to have Every Teardrop as a stand alone single rather than it making the album. I'd much prefer it in fact. It's a good track but the other songs are a decent amount above this one as far as I'm concerned. I feel much excitement, relief, and joy in the other new songs that were played at the set!!
  23. After a day of listening I'd give it a 7 or 8. And it could still grow on me more so idk. But it's not nearly as bad as so many people are saying I don't think. It's no 10 like Clocks, The Scientist, Talk or Violet Hill. To the same extent, however, I would definitely prefer it over their pre-Parachutes era stuff and over some of their songs, a la Sparks, ARoBttH, Twisted Logic, and Yes. It's not the end of the world either way. This new album is going to be amazing, I can feel it. I'm very excited about all the new songs being played at the festivals! It makes me think we could get the album before October. And my favorite part- title and tracklist revealing- is still to come!! :D So that's awesome. There has to be at leasttt 5 or 6 other songs that will be better than this one. I can just feel it. The whole album isn't going to be like this all the way through I don't think! I remember listening to the Viva album the first few times I had no idea how I felt about it. Low and behold it's my second favorite behind ARoBttH. I'm sure it'll be a great release- the more experimental the music is, the longer it takes people to warm up to it- I feel anyway. :P
