  1. If you listen to the album version, you can hear Chris screaming! Also I think he was just joking about their not being able to play the song. :)
  2. Yes, I suppose HFTW is kind of like this... "The good news is I'm addicted to drink and drugs!"
  3. Nope your theory is wrong because Army of One is the 8th song not the 7th song of the album. Just kidding - this is a cool catch! I've never quite heard what he was saying there and finally looked it up. This is very interesting and I would imagine it's intentional. In fact, AHFOD has MANY intentionally done lyrics, and I'm very saddened by the number of people who seem to think the whole album is shallow lyrically or musically. Just a few examples: -AHFOD rearranges the Gandhi quote, "be the change you wish to see in the world" and makes a reference to UFO (leave your broken windows open, and in the light just streams) -AOAL references the book "Half the Sky" about issues faced by women around the world -Army of One -Up&Up references Grapes of Wrath, "waiting for your chance to pick your orange field"
  4. Here we go!!! Quite a few nice videos on Youtube.
  5. Yeah! Jonny's guitar on the live version is amazing. I can't tell if those lines are even on the album version at all. Especially during the choruses...there are just so many notes. :) There are also extra vocal samples being used in the live version. Guy (who I think is manually triggering the bass and vocal samples live) plays a bunch of random Chris-voice noises during the intro and the quiet bit in the middle and it just adds a LOT of character.
  6. To be totally fair though, they've done a really serious job of self-reinventing musically on the B and C stages. So far we've gotten stripped down/no-backing track request songs (+bonus songs like See You Soon), remixes/reworks (new arrangements of GPASUYF, UATW), and fun random things like Ink with a cajon. This shows that despite their high-production value / heavy-backing-track majority of the show, they still have a big connection with the "playing as an actual band" part of things. Do I wish they would do 80% of the show that way instead of just 20%? Yes, but it's something that this tour deserves credit for.
  7. Solution: let Will take lead vocals on half the songs. :)
  8. Yeah the silence after the 1st chorus is weirdly too quiet. It's very short...but jarring. Wow 3:45 to the end is pretty egregious: -You can hear the first few notes of the second guitar solo. Did they forget to mute that guitar track or what? -The echoing whoa's are present, but it only makes sense for those to be there because they're echoes of vocals that happen DURING the second guitar solo, which was cut. It's like they cut and mixed it without having access to the separate tracks....pretty poor editing IMO in addition to the fact that cutting such a great epic song like this was a bad idea in the first place.
  9. Sorry I was referring to both this thing AND another part. The oooh's are sung by Will if I'm not mistaken.
  10. That's not out of the question, Will singing there, but it sounds like more than one voice that's continuing to sing.
  11. If you go to about 1:40 in this video you can see that Jonny and Guy stop singing yet there's still audio of singing. Again, it's not something I want to be true and agree that backing tracks should be minimized. I'm just pointing out that this isn't necessarily something new.
  12. The one that Will sings? I did notice but it's kind of buried in the album version. Another really nice Will-vocal is in the 2nd chorus, when Will comes in with a delayed "close your eyes" (singing after Chris). Much more apparent in the live version and so quiet on the album. </3
  13. Bear in mind that half the songs they play live have backing tracks (strings, pianos, guitars, percussion, etc), and there's proof that Jonny and Guy are lipsyncing a lot of the time / it's possible Will may be doing so as well. By comparison, if Chris is actually lip syncing 10 seconds of Clocks, that's really a tiny thing.
  14. Biased just because I like Up&Up probably more than any other Coldplay song right now. In my mind it's just the perfect song....guitar solos and piano, a big singalong, and stuff. I'd say that the verses to Up&Up are kind of sad or bittersweet. Though definitely the transition from the quiet to loud part in Fix You is huge. I also love Amsterdam but think it's less powerful of a song than the other two. Life is for Living was fun as a closer too. :)
  15. SPIELBERG YOU SAY? I'm calling it now - it will be a Coldplay remake of ET. Beyonce, an funny looking but endearingly cute alien from outer space, arrives on planet Earth where she is met by a group of 4 boys, who are lonely and just want to be popular. Together, they figure out how to send Beyonce back to the planet of JZ by flying their bikes to the moon....up and up and up.....
  16. Chris stopping Don't Panic is getting to be a bit of a cheap trick. But I love it because it makes Jonny sing louder the second time around. :) Also I think that was Will playing the cajon on Don't Panic...cool. :D
  17. Still not sure what to be listening for? I'm usually good at picking up on when they're lipsyncing and such but it doesn't seem like Chris is in these videos?
  18. Yeah they pulled the same thing with Hurts Like Heaven, where the guitar solos got a LOT shorter. I don't get it considering how Oasis got away with songs like Champagne Supernova without hideously short radio edits. That said, I'm still super excited that the band is getting behind Up&Up this way. It's obviously not the most "mainstream" piece of music on the album, but you can tell they care about it the most. If I'm not mistaken, this may also be the first album closer to be a single, and we all know how good the album closers are!
  19. For anyone curious, this is what the single edit will be like, indeed with a LOT missing unfortunately. The first guitar solo is about half as long, the second solo is missing, and there's an awkward transition after the first chorus, and the 2nd verse is halved. :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEpMhKiYS50 Mobile Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEpMhKiYS50
  20. I hope they do some of the requests not-on-the-C-stage. Amsterdam as played in Chicago was cool...but the full version with drums and stuff is a lot better.
  21. Are they likely to come to the South? :( I'm in North Carolina and was hoping a Raleigh show would be announced.
  22. Spoiler added to thread title. :) I agree! This video would stand alone way better than AOAL and the like. (Though I'm hopeful we'll get an amazing Up&Up music video). It'd be a great replication of what they did with Sport Relief and Magic starting around 1:40
  23. I wasn't sure where was the best place for this, but I wanted to have a place to discuss how bloody great the live backdrop to Politik was at the first Buenos Aires show. If they release it as a music video or some kind of activism thing (have they already?) I think the impact would be amazing. The explosions in rhythm with the music, then the inspirational images at "give me love over this", and then the explosions in reverse at the end. It's superb! It reminds me of the alternate music video for Violet Hill (dancing politicians) and the live backdrop for Lovers in Japan. The backdrop for Politik is very reminiscent of the political themes from VLV. LOVE IT. Here are two decent quality fan videos of the performance:
