1. Same, haha ... I've definitely failed at trying to save any element of surprise for the EP, but that's fine, I'm so excited for it. It will be fun to see how the songs come together.
2. I'm pretty sure it was not intended to be particularly polished. Even Hypnotised (which they played right after) didn't sound all that polished. Was a pretty quick drizzly soundcheck. I thought it had loads of promise, hope the finished version keeps the overall atmosphere and tone.
3. OK here's what I got. There were a few seconds before I started, but this is most of what they played of that song. Really loving it just from this. Between this, Hypnotised and the other mystery song above (and the soundcheck from last year), I'm having a hard time not getting my hopes really high for the EP. I think this is not the same song as any of the others, but someone else can correct me on that if I'm mistaken.
4. I think the mystery one today was All I Can Think About Is You. Could hear that lyric very clearly. I have a longer vid but all I could post for now was this clip on Instagram Mobile Link: https://www.instagram.com/p/BSv68_JDV5q/ ... Sounded fantastic. My excitement for this EP keeps going up.
5. I don't think people hate it, just that it's an awfully long run for a cover, especially when the band has so much of their own material (old and new) we'd like to see worked in. Though I shouldn't speak for others, that's just how I feel ... I think it's a great cover, just a spot in the setlist I'd like to see get a fresh take eventually.
6. I think Chris has said a few times they haven't had a bus in ages and have a plane. However, their gear and stage setup is all going to go around in trucks (and crew in buses), so there's probably a bunch of studio gear in one.
7. Does anyone have an idea where exactly the C stage is in this chart for Toronto? I was hoping to pick a seat next to the C stage if possible, but I'm not sure if it's that little rectangle near the back (seems farther back than most of been) or if it's in that lighter area right behind the mix desk.
8. Totally understand. I really wish they'd do GA as well. GA is cheaper than our seats in most places and you can earn a great spot by getting there early. But, eh, I've just learned to enjoy them from whatever seat.
9. Go to both of course, haha. If you have to pick one, maybe see what tickets you pull up for the second, and do the one you like the seats better? I'm gonna do both since I'm already driving a ways up there and for some reason I've decided it's logic to spend twice the money when I get there. My self control is garbage this year. :joy:
10. As always I'm way too excited about this. I hope the other parts get posted too!
11. I feel the same as so much of this, it could practically be written by me. With the exception that there were a few I felt an instant connection with, mainly in the old days ... The Scientist did more so than any other. I don't have the technical knowledge to explain why I felt that way about Coldplay's songs, or why I love Hypnotised ... but it's been a while since I just felt like one was written for me. And that's fine, it certainly doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed and fallen in love with many. But I'm also going through a transition in my life now, and quite frankly a sad one, and this just took me back to a different me, and I needed that so much. And I absolutely agree about Chris's melodies. They grabbed from the first time I heard Yellow. On Hypnotised I couldnt really even understand the lyrics the first time I listened, but I was so blown away by the melody that was enough. I'm probably being way too melodramatic, like it's just a song ... but sometimes just a song is a big deal.
12. The car is absolutely my top choice for first listen. I had a great sound system installed in my car a few year ago (right after VLV came out actually) and it's been worth every penny. It's such an immersive feel, plus I love driving. I've had that car in pieces since May so it's painful not having it for all these new music moments. I'm driving my dad's car now though and it has a nice Bose system, albeit with a speaker disconnected due to amp issues ... I can't complain. But yeah, I'm already dreaming of the day I can crank this on my favorite speakers and with nice clean bass, oh man it will be divine.
13. This is why I waited until I was in my car this morning to listen, even though I was tempted to hit play as soon as I rolled over and saw the notifications on my phone. I can't wait until I finish fixing my car with the really nice sound system, just to listen to this.
14. I thought the same about the guitar and that is the ULTIMATE compliment from me. And it does have a bit of a Momentary Lapse of Reason feel to me. On a whole: I LOVE THIS SONG. I really can't even say how much I love it. Just yesterday I was feeling a little sad about missing the older Coldplay sound, not for lack of appreciation of the new, but just sorta feeling nostalgic lately and missing those days of my life. I liked SJLT and was looking forward to the EP no matter what, but wasn't really expecting something to hit me this much. I woke up to all these notifications about the new song and put it on to listen on my drive to work not knowing what to expect ... I cried the whole drive just listening to it on a loop (driving around crying is what I want most out of music lol). I think it has elements of their newer sound as well as old, and just blends it all so beautifully and powerfully. And I just love that guitar. Just wow.
15. I think I know what you mean, I just didn't phrase it well ... But yeah, just something atmosphericly weightier. Maybe I would say angsty, sonically. I'm not terribly good at describing musical characteristics, but I think we're on the same page haha.
16. I'd say the same for myself as far as liking all the albums. There are a few songs I'm not that over the moon about. But I mean that genuinely and not as a gentle euphemism. I'm just not over the moon about them. I don't think there are any songs I really definitively dislike and the vast majority are somewhere on the spectrum of like to love. But I find all the albums enjoyable. That said, I certainly do like some more than others, and there's an unavoidable (but not uncrossable as far as individual songs) line chronologically for me. But that's not the same as disliking one or disliking newer stuff. And honestly, for me to say something isn't as special as the first three isn't exactly a horrible slight. I have those on a pedestal so high it's almost silly. I guess if I'm honest my first impression of MX was that I wasn't that fond of it, though it was more that it wasn't the right album at the right time, and (I say this knowing how self-involved it is) it was the first time they released an album that didn't feel like it was tailor-made just for me. Over time I don't really feel that way about it though, because I've learned to appreciate albums differently, I guess? I'm glad I have a band that over 16 years I like all their albums, even if I don't like them all equally; I think that in itself I'm pretty lucky. I literally had that thought about half an hour ago and felt like such a miseryguts. I don't really think a miserable song would have fit on AHFOD, and I tend to think of it and GS as a sort of continuum where GS was the boat for all the sad stuff. But I kind of want a dark song. Doesn't necessary have to be a downer. Just more dark. I'm not expecting it thought since I'm guessing KEP will be more like a second helping of AHFOD.
17. Though I'm generally pleasantly surprised by the song (and quite frankly, this is exactly where I'd like to see them sow their wild oats instead of on their own albums), I have to agree about the riff. I feel myself get so excited when it kicks in, but it's sort of buried in all the other sound. As I said on my social media in various places ... you know how DJs always do remixes of normal rock songs? Can Coldplay please flip the script and do a normal rock remix of this EDM song? I'd love to hear it stripped down and let Jonny's bit shine, bring up the piano a little, and maybe replace the club stuff with a bigger piano riff. Just more pianos and stuff. Everywhere. I get that it's a Chainsmokers song, though, and given that I think it's pretty good and not something I'm going to worry myself over. Though I don't worry that much about their direction anyway. My favorite eras of theirs are over, and that's fine; I'm not going to sit around like Hachiko waiting for the AROBTTH sound to return. I still immensely enjoy the eras since, which the occasional bit I enjoy on a level with the old, and the occasional bit I kinda skip past. To me there's always something very Coldplay about almost anything they do, and I'm glad to have that constant. Personally I'm still really excited for the EP and the suspense of not really knowing exactly what direction it will go.
18. Awesome. I didn't know it had gone but I'm glad it's not gone now. Can't wait for the new album. And tour dates please. I'm trying to balance out my year among my favorite bands with limited time and budget, and these guys have to be a piece. I saw them a couple times last year and the new songs they played were (not surprisingly) a promising glimpse
19. This is awesome, thanks. I just bought a piano and trying to learn to play and this is the first song I want to learn. I'm not good enough to follow this yet, but bookmarking for when I am. :) I bough the AROBTTH sheet music on Amazon and it's a good simple version for me to play but not the same as what Chris plays, so I'm glad you worked it out and shared it!
20. Not sure if this is new or something older, but Nick Mason (Pink Floyd's drummer) just RT this and I'm exploding haha. Mobile Link: https://twitter.com/jasonbarlowuk/status/825364542754521092 I grew up listening to Pink Floyd and of course my love for Guy doesn't need to be stated ... and as I've mentioned before I'm super into cars ... so ... omg haha. Nick is a HUGE car guy, actually drove in LeMans before and has an amazing collection ... so I bet he and Guy would have a lot to talk about!
21. Just to clarify, my not wanting to listen to the leak has nothing to do with my level of interest in the EP ... I usually like to listen to any release for the first time when it's properly released so I get the full quality as well as enjoy the buildup and excitement that comes with waiting for release day and actually getting the album. Admittedly sometimes I just give up and listen to things ahead, because these days even without a leak, artists make a lot of songs available to listen ahead of time. With most stuff I try to hold out, and just want to do the same for this EP. if the band shares anything ahead of time though I'm sure I won't have the willpower not to listen to it immediately though. :D
22. Same. I really want the excitement of hearing it for the first time when it comes out.
23. Oh I'm so happy to see this!!!! I forgot to put in my votes but he would have been my choice. I saw him in DC last night and Philly this morning and going to be in NYC too ... Christa42 maybe I will see you there! The show was unbelievable last night, I felt like my heart would explode the whole time!
24. Wonder how much "low cost" is. Could be a lot of fun. I got mine to light solid colors by jumping some stuff inside but never got around to trying to install an RF controller. This would be way cooler anyway!
