  1. Isn't it great when you discover a few songs you like, and then you dive deeper and find incredible songs? That's Coldplay. Welcome!
  2. Coldplay nailed the studio version of this song. The best way I can describe it is "lovely." That's all that needs to be said really.

Truth be told my favorite Coldplay albums are the first three that they made. Ever since MX I have accepted that the sounds from Parachutes to X&Y, or the musical style that identified them will likely not come back around, and that appears to be the case. I don't particularly like pop music, I find it to be annoying. Coldplay is transforming into a pop band. Am I settling for the new sound that the band is gravitating towards? I don't think I am settling as much as I am accepting of Coldplay's take on pop music. Regardless of my longing for another Parachutes, Coldplay remains my favorite band and it always will be. I agree with the sentiments that Chris' lyrical prowess has been lacking. I truly believe "The Scientist" to be a masterpiece, "Viva La Vida" is another one. Heck, he's written a few. I don't think he has ever gotten back to that level. If anything, the lyrics are the most disappointing aspect of Coldplay music today, not the sound itself.

I think posters have a really, really hard time accepting the fact that Coldplay is not the same band that it was back in the years spanning from 2000-2005.
  5. It's a very nice song. I like it a lot. It's seems very sincere, and the piano melody is beautiful.
  6. Once I saw the article about Obama being on the album, I absolutely cringed. Music should be the last bastion where politics don't infiltrate, and I'm really disappointed to read that he is going to be in it -- regardless of party affiliation. It may seem closed minded but that song is already tainted.
  7. Everything sounded great! Thanks Batman for the upload! Chris sounded real good. I thought more often than not when singing ASFOS, Chris struggled with it. He sounded like he owned that song this time. Awesome.
  8. my first thoughts were Chrustin Martinblake.
  9. Listened to the snippet, can't say it reminds me of much of anything, too short. I remain hopeful though that it will be something great. It will most certainly be different.
  10. This is looking very promising. I think Coldplay also historically loves playing around the holidays/Christmas, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them launch in early December and get a gig in or something just prior to Christmas.
  11. I just want to thank you all for these incredible stories, they are touching, beautiful, and incredible look into your lives. Why Coldplay? That question is a tough question to answer. Up until about age 15 I did not really care for music. I liked some songs that I heard on the radio, but I would never actively explore music or different genres. It wasn't until one night my brother was playing a 90's hits CD that a song called "A Long December" came on that primarily involved piano. For some reason "A Long December," by the Counting Crows really impacted me. I loved the sound that that particular song had, and I loved the lyrics. I was discovering that I wanted to play piano after years of disinterest in any instrument. I loved the sound of the piano. I started researching bands that used the piano, and my best friend sent me a youtube link of a live performance of "Clocks," and I became intrigued. At this point in my life I was a big Counting Crows fan, but after researching Coldplay some more, I found that I loved the band's style. Particularly, I loved how Coldplay always made it a point to be harmonious in their chords, and it was at that point I knew I had found the band that I had been in search of. It wasn't until I was in my 20s that I started to really appreciate the band members. I sincerely don't believe they are the most talented musicians out there. Please do not misunderstand me -- they most certainly are very talented, but not "uber" talented. Chris Martin has mentioned his lack of talent multiple times, and I think he believes it. I don't believe Chris is using false-modesty when he talks about the band's talent level. In fact, I greatly appreciate that he and his band members do not try to be something that they aren't -- it makes me love them even more because they seem incredibly human, when most of the time musicians and other stars seem larger than life. They have worked incredibly hard to get where they are at, and I don't think they could have made it on pure talent alone, and they know that -- it defines them. Every time they are on stage they pour their hearts and souls into every song because that's who they are and that's what they have to do. Not all musicians care THAT much. How does this tie into my story? Well, I was the kid in school that made very mediocre grades. I could never do well on any math test regardless how much studying I did. I failed state exams left and right because I predisposed myself to the notion that I would fail them regardless. I didn't try with girls because I didn't have any confidence or thought that there was a point. In short, I didn't believe I could do much of anything. I know this sounds like a lot of self-pity, and in a way it is. Coldplay helped though, because I watched four determined people make beautiful music through extremely hard work and burning passion. Coldplay helped me find my passion that I was searching for, which was music. I fumbled my way through high school and did end up graduating, and then I went on to community college where I identified really well with some professors and began to really learn. The different setting that college provided as opposed to public school really made a difference for me, and I went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with my Associates in Arts, and that provided fuel for me to eventually graduate with my B.S. Health Care Management with straight As. All during that time, Coldplay provided me with energy and happiness to keep going. Sure there were ups and downs all through college, but I identified with Coldplay the entire way through. Chris is great at getting inside your mind and explaining how you feel through your lowest moments and your highest. I didn't get to where I am without hard work, and neither did Chris, Johnny, Will, or Guy. I've been through failure, and so has Coldplay. The band was told that they didn't have what it takes to succeed, and they sacked Will. They were lost for a bit, as was I for a period in my life, but they didn't just accept that and give up. Coldplay kept going, they wouldn't be denied what they were working towards, and look where it has landed them. I am so proud of Coldplay. I will always fly the flag no matter how much hate they get. They weren't going to be denied their dreams, and I think that is awe-inspiring. It's stories like theirs that really make me believe that it is possible to conquer your dreams, and for that I can never thank Coldplay enough.
  12. Thank you for doing that, I really appreciate it. I think you're close, I think that is more reminiscent of the left right left right left live album or the viva era where he was playing an even brighter piano sound than normal, it was more tinny than anything else. MX era seemed to have a bit more bite to it, a bit more bass, etc.
  13. Care to prove it/take a recording with your settings?
  14. Not to derail the thread but what is it about Another's Arms that really irks people? I see production being mentioned, but what specifically? Just curious.
  15. So Coldplay's new album is going to be released on December 4th? What a great birthday present :D
  16. I think I read somewhere that Coldplay would be incorporating horns into their next album, which I think is an amazing next step. I like Of Monsters and Men a lot, and their use of horns is so tasteful and well done. If Coldplay can get it right, it very well could be amazing.
  17. I don't even have a falsetto. Stop being a defeatist. I expect it by Friday, lol.
  18. Come on Charlie, you need to get that Kawai MP9000 piano patch Chris uses and turn it into a VST plugin :)
  19. Hmm, this is difficult. 1. The Scientist 2. Politik 3. Sparks 4. Clocks 5. Fix You 6. Everything's Not Lost 7. We Never Change 8. Talk 9. The Hardest Part 10. Yellow 11. Speed Of Sound 12. Viva La Vida 13. Life in Technicolor II 14. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face 15. Green Eyes 16. A Sky Full of Stars 17. Til Kingdom Come 18. Strawberry Swing 19. Always In My Head 20. Major Minus
  20. Which is what makes me wonder about whether or not it is on the album. That being said though, ASFOS was on Ghost Stories, which most agreed, even the other band members besides Chris believed that it didn't fit with the album's vibe. So it wouldn't be a shock to find that song in AHFOD. Nobody knows.
  21. Sure, He usually counts to 4 before they jump into the first verse. He led them in on the count to 3, which was premature in his opinion, so he stopped it all and restarted the count down.
  22. On a side note, I really loved Chris Martin & Ed Sheeran playing "Thinking Out Loud" together. Great song.
  23. Is there a general consensus that this song is part of AHFOD? I am conflicted on whether or not this was a one-off.
  24. Lol, Chris Martin's never ending quest to try to remain young and hip.
