  1. Hurts Like Heaven: 'I struggle with the feeling that my life isn't mine' 'See the arrow that they shot, trying to tear us apart' 'Don't let them take control No, we won't let them take control' 'They're coming 'round to get us They're coming 'round when they don't know the facts' Chris Martin: "'A story... loosely a kind of romance in an oppressive environment,' Martin explains, adding that (as of now) the 'love story' will have a happy ending-depending on sequencing.'" If Hurts Like Heaven doesn't fit the album, I don't see how Major Minus could either. Major Minus: You got one eye watching you And one eye what to do And... that sums up the song. There's a better chance of Hurts Like Heaven being involved than one might think. If it's not, then I fully accept eating my own words, but Hurts Like Heaven is thematically more apt than you say it is.
  2. X&Y was worse of a title. It was even more vague than this one.
  3. It's such an amazing song! I've listened to it so many times! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68h3fl5rctI]Coldplay - Princess of China {Better Quality} - YouTube[/ame] Can you really say a song like that will be left off?? And if you say it's going to be left off because of the lyrics, no one can understand the lyrics in the first place so... I still don't believe you. Its structure is so awesome!!!!
  4. Mumford & Sons is mainstream. If you don't believe me, then ask the millions of people that are more familiar with their stuff over Arcade Fire's stuff.
  5. Umm I agree with you except for Princess Of China. It's THE best song yet. It's like leaving Viva La Vida off LP4. I can't stop listening to it!
  6. Again, I can tell you that Every Teardrop has no chorus and that's doing much better than Violet Hill did!!! (42 doesn't either)
  7. ^ It pisses me off!! It's like they're purposely leaving it ambiguous so we don't know! Just because they say 'next' doesn't necessarily mean it's the second. It could very well mean the first!
  8. How does it not fit?? First of all Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland said that all of the songs on the album were 'schizophrenic' and that they all were different. Hurts Like Heaven has PERFECT lyrics that fit the album very well. It's also one of their stronger songs!
  9. If I'm not mistaken, The Scientist was also one of those songs (I actually watched the interview of Chris Martin :P ) He said it was created right after George Harrison's death and he was inspired by one of his songs, and then the rest came to him. The whole song was created in, like, 3 minutes. Then he got the band to layer their instruments on top. Clocks was also one of those songs. Here's what I read off Wikipedia. It said it was composed during the 'late stages' of the album process, and they already had ten songs for the album. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clocks_(song)
  10. Dude, Every Teardrop has no chorus. Same with 42, Charlie Brown and Princess Of China. That must make Coldplay NOT mainstream!!! :o
  11. ^^ I LOVE THOSE LYRICS!!
  12. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHiBn3Ppstk]The Hardest Part/Postcards From Far Away (live) - YouTube[/ame] Dear Troll, listen to 'Hardest Part', 'Postcards From Far Away', 'Amsterdam', 'Everything's Not Lost', and 'Glass Of Water'. Sure, I can play these on the piano too, doesn't make him any less of an exceptional piano player. He's not Mozart, I'm not calling him Matthew Bellamy either, but don't go to one extreme and say he's not exceptional just to be argumentative and trollish. It's much better than anything U2's lead singer can do. I think you're just caught up with songs like 'Clocks', 'The Scientist' and things like 'Speed of Sound', which sound cool, but aren't very hard. I'm glad you can figure out Coldplay's stuff on the piano. You must be a real maestro.
  13. Up In Flames was written in the spur of a moment situation just a matter of weeks ago, and now the album is being finalized. Clocks was also one of these spur of the moment songs, and it ended up being arguable their best hit (behind Viva of course). Would you say Up In Flames could be this song? Chris Martin and Co. seem to be pretty excited about it in particular, and obviously Phil does too! Even though we haven't heard it, what would you think?
  14. PoC=Jizzed in my pants.
  15. Well, great songs come naturally but you still have to work on them... Here's what I think about Hurts Like Heaven and WHY it should be on the album: Jonny owns this song, hands down. The song is so simplistic (it's basically only two chords), but Coldplay still finds ways of making it completely epic. After MX (which doesn't do much for me personally), Chris's curtain of lyrical content falls down over the music with a rainstorm of rebellious graffiti references that keep the beat of the song just as well as Jonny's hammering muffled-powerchords. The drum beat keeps a simple New Wave beat and the Bass adds the necessary texture to the soundscape (like most songs). Suddenly, the first verses end and the two line chorus comes in, "Yeah you, use your heart as a weapon, and it hurts like heaven," and BAM! The song is immersed in a 16 measure guitar solo that -to contrast with the title- sounds ohhh so good like heaven!! Jonny owns those last eight measures with a glittering descending almost-arpeggio that makes me want to scream out in happiness! The song then continues its fast paced ways until it stops for the first main verse, "Yes I feel a little bit nervous, yes I feel nervous and I cannot relax" as the synthesizers glitter just like Jonny's guitar until it explodes into the 'concrete canvas' and 'spray can soul' verse. The song continues through more of Coldplay's awesome 'Whoas!!' in a second main verse, and then repeats the chorus a couple times before it ends in a shower of glimmering synths and guitars that slowly quiet down. This is by far the happiest Coldplay song ever released.
  16. Those pictures are the COOLEST THING EVER!!!
  17. I guess it's a good bet the next single after Paradise will be Charlie Brown.
  18. (I like Coldplay better because I think their music is better, but I can't help but point out how great U2 is.)
  19. U2 writes great music, but they're aren't as talented as musicians. I read the book 'U2 By U2', and during their first ten years they couldn't help but pointing out how terrible of musicians they were; Adam Clayton --the bassist-- couldn't keep time with the drums (at one point they actually thought about kicking him out), Larry kept on doing simple drum beats and Bono was yelling more than singing. The Edge and The Edge's brother (who was later sacked from the band) were the only talented musicians. Over time, they all improved, and therefore were able to play more complicated music. Chris Martin is an incredibly exceptional piano player, and he is a decent guitar player to add to that. His voice is below standard, but the music he writes (whereas it might not be as catchy) is very structured. Coldplay's best band member is definitely Will Champion. He taught himself to play the drums so he could be in Coldplay. He also plays basically every instrument known to man. His timing is impeccable and his back-up vocals are incredibly sublime and harmonious. The Edge beats Jonny. Jonny's great, but not only is the Edge a legend, his guitar work over the past 30-or-so years has never faltered. Jonny is great with catchy 'In My Place' riffs. As for the bassists, Guy Berryman wins all-out over Adam Clayton. Hands down.
  20. Unfortunately I think it'll be on there. I was just hoping that it wouldn't because A) we've all heard it before, B) I've bought it three times, C) the manager said in the interview that the album theme was a lot weaker in the music video and D) it just isn't a strong song. It's not going anywhere, say, Violet Hill has. Even though it was much more successful, it's hardly memorable. It's just pop-fluff.
  21. Am I the only one who thinks that it's kind of an off-character track title for Coldplay? It kind of doesn't fit the essence of their last hits. I'm hoping it's really different and I'm hoping that it is well-structured.
