Guess coldplay song
I got it, Warning Sign! Which album ender actually has Indian influences - the tabla (bongo-type drums)?

Random Coldplay thoughts...
You're right, there are at least 2 guitar lines (I've previously only noticed Jonny's part on there)... The higher bit is Jonny's and is the lead guitar (also technically called the [non-vocal] melody), the lower bit is Guy's bass (sorry if you knew that already)... That bit was the harmonic progression I felt was a bit similar to You Only Live Twice once the soaring music actually starts... Neways, how do you like the original? One of my fav *jokes* about this band is that they would make the awesome-ss covers band / session musicians out there... :laugh3: I've never heard them do a bad cover - I remind myself of that when they go off and come up with stuff like Up In Flames / True Love (*runs away)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
At least it'd be loud, upbeat, feet-shufflingly so, original to say the least, musical, adventurous... Yada, yada yada :laugh3: Oh and the critics would love it... No more 'sounding old, and tired'!

You've never heard the original by Nancy Sinantra i.e. in the self-titled James Bond film? :o It's one of my early favorites... So many lovely Bond theme songs over the years - I like how many of them have that big sound with deep brassy voices! Not exactly the same chord progression between I Ran Away and YOLT but the chord intervals are similar (high, low, high, low) at the beginning of both... Try playing the two songs together - the first 4 bars once the guitars / strings (ie actual non-percussion music) start :) Btw which guitar line are you referring to - that dreamy, shimmery lead that Jonny plays right at the beginning?

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I wondered, although that's probably too much of a stretch even for their musical ability... Maybe the producers could come up with something like that? Although that light, frenetic synthy bit early on could easily be replicated by Jonny on a guitar, then there's the EDM'y bit that's repeated like a reverbs / echoe sound, and that loud bassy line I'm sure Will and Guy could replicate between them :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I mentioned this earlier in this thread / Amazing Day thread that I wondered whether their new music could sound a bit like [video=youtube;WStnTqF2FMc] but I think it got lost in the excitement of someone else's conversation... I just think it's an interesting coincidence that it clearly has Indian (Bollywood no-less, which is like their contemporary rather than classical style) and modern western pop influences, and was produced for Global Citizen, and that the band are showing Indian influences... Unless it is just a phase to highlight the GC cause itself...

Also if I'm not mistaken no one mentioned that singer when they were there (in India)

Amazing Day
^ I like that post... :idea2: Someone should start a thread - alternative titles to Amazing Day... Given how many people don't rate the current name, it could prove very popular:D

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Has anyone heard from the guys / seen them these last few days? Where are the guys when you need them sitting around the studio waiting on fans outside to pounce on them the moment they step out to ask them when the new album will be finished? :laugh3:

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I reckon they're tweaking... The lyrics might be complete but I think they are still moulding the song. I suspect it is a couple of hooks away from being finished / them being happy about it. Listening to it, I feel it has great potential but the GC version had some lines that were too repetitive/ long, and awkward transitioning moments. It is definitely a ballad-y song that has the potential to transform into an epic live with crowd participation - maybe they were testing that to see what worked and what didn't. As it wasn't a CP concert that might be why they didn't say anything at the time (eg Chris announcing that they're testing it / it's from the new album as that could potentially overshadow the GC event), but they still performed it to give us an idea of things to come. And if it wasn't fully ready then it would make sense that they haven't said anything about it since either...

Pet Peeve / Top Hate about a Coldplay Song /Album / The Band Itself, And Why?
This one's just something that came to mind from a discussion on another thread... I'm sure we all have our pet peeves in various songs / parts of albums that are annoying (or plain just can't stand), which we wish could be changed. One of my first occurred when I heard the opening 'bam-bam-bam' of Politik - I just found the lack of artistry made me want to turn the music off. Luckily the rest of the song won me over, otherwise I wouldn't still be here eagerly awaiting LP7... :laugh3: My current one is Chris' almost whiny voice on Another's Arms, in almost the whole song ... What's your Coldplay pet peeve, let us know! P.S. If you disagree on a reason, feel free to share with us too :D

What's the best time to listen to...?
Hurts Like Heaven- it's the perfect driving song! Particularly when you're in free-flowing traffic and just up-shifting a gear or just opening up to a freeway at the start of an exciting journey heading off somewhere eg a holiday... The exhilaration I feel from the guys singing and Jonny's guitar is so freeing, always lifts my mood

I do too... Could it be it has identical chord progressions to You Only Live Twice? That song has been around for much longer than Coldplay :laugh3: Thanks for asking the question, I never would have made that link otherwise :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I hope not, they don't need another reason for U2 fan-bashing... Amazing Day is doing the rounds as the poorer cousin of Beautiful Day already :laugh3:

Brian Eno certainly enhanced and developed it, but they already had it... All their earlier albums had multiple layers, only less. I don't know it is Eno, but there seems to sometimes be loss of clarity in their musical lines after he became involved - they become tangled in his wall of sound and I think that's what the Oldplayers don't like about their newer music.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
At 1:25, I don't hear any lead/rhythm guitars- I'd say it's mainly dominated by synths/vocoder voices, with a low-volume distorted bass in the background. At 2:33 there is a barely there lead-guitar and again is quite synthy The 1:37-1:58 bit has Jonny's guitar on some sort of pedal (ooh/wah-wah type) and suppressed vocals. I agree that the 3:00 mark is just pure heaven... It's my fav part of the whole song! And overall the song has such an exhilarating feel to it... Always brings such joy and makes me feel alive :D

^ @ HowCouldIForget I'll go listen and reply later, but I do like that they have a lot of layers in their songs... One of my fav hobbies used to be listening to the songs repeatedly, but focusing each time on their individual lines... And then putting them back together again and actively listening to multiple lines at once... Almost like a mantra to focus on / fall asleep to - it's blissful

To give it texture and make it more complex, ergo theoretically more interesting to listen to? Btw, could you point out for me Jonny's guitar bits that have been distorted? My music background is piano based so I'm still learning the various guitar effects although I can hear lines quite well... It still boggles my mind that it can be an instrument that produces a mess of tangled sound rather than individual clean bits that can be separated :laugh3:

All that time she was silent still... (this bit is my fav part of the song :D)
