LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I love Jonny's blistering and muscular guitar in it... That aerodynamicism is one of my favorite things about the song... I dunno how some people don't see the rock influence there, to me it's bleeding obvious! :bliss:

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Quality really can do a lot, that's one of the things I really value in this band... There's always something deeper to find in all their album recordings. Often I might have initially disliked a song but then dig deeper and find something to appreciate there, which then helps me to enjoy it.

Amazing Day
Agreed. Very loud sound of silence... It's deafening to me. I'm more used to them just announcing dates of late - I remember the first I heard of Midnight was actually through their official site... Email just popped in at random one day announcing their track and where to preview and download it. Then other news followed...

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I know we're all excited about single news... I stumbled upon this GC ad when replaying Amazing Day for the umpteenth time.... [video=youtube;WStnTqF2FMc] just listen to the music, I wonder whether LP7 might sound anything like it? It's got very heavy Indian influences, sadly (or not, depending on which camp you are) is definitely pop and techno + hip hop-based, but does sound pretty organic (ie like a band played it out rather than someone sitting in a studio constructing it)... To me, it certainly sounds quite possible that it could be their new sound, but maybe I'm just grasping at straws Oh and did I mention the strings and synths...

ELIMINATION #4: VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS
Death will never conquer.... Death by quantity (ie length of song) :laugh3:

The epic COLDPLAY vs. COLDPLAY game - everything against everything
Chris rocking on piano... He's the only one who ever does that, makes him unique  I'd probably play more but some of the choices are too obscure / hard :) Happy Coldplay or darker / melancholic Coldplay?

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Awww, thank you, thank you, thank you.... That really is such a special moment, I'm glad I got a chance to experience it  :loveshower: I hope your day is full of these feelings :)

Can someone post a YouTube link or a clip of this moment please? I'm sure everyone will be so grateful :D

Amazing Day
I wasn't comparing it to Politik, only that it has some musical roots from it (they are of a different class of quality I'd almost say)... I wouldn't drop a bomb and start WWIII here by comparing it... It'd be a nuclear annihilation in Politik's favor by the Oldplayers and probably most of the forum notwithstanding Amazing Day's strengths :laugh3:

Many, many thanks! What a rare gem :D

Amazing Day
:idea2:That is exactly where the song's 'aaahhh' bits come from... Politik's closing bits right after that line! Except it's less desperate and more at peace in this song

Unfortunately I think this portion of their fan base is now the minority... I know that's where their roots are and how they established themselves at the beginning but I think they have a greater ambition to capture as many listeners as possible and that means some degree of pop / less musical material. They at least haven't forgotten us and regularly release these songs at some point in the album cycle, even if just as a B-side, etc. I'm glad they're a conscientious band and not afraid to play and explore different things - this means when they work on their rock songs there is still room for growth and things sound fresh... Think how Major Minus has really great guitar rock outs that are a progression of Chinese Sleep Chant and their earlier work. Or some bits of GS eg Oceans, O, AIMH, GS itself sound like more mature versions of a Parachutes incarnation.

Hey at least we all get to hear it eventually... It's not as desirable as a whole album full of such songs but we at least usually get a few. They've got to find a way to earn their money and fulfill their ambition as well, one of which is to reach as many people as possible, which may mean more commercial-sounding numbers... No matter the actual album track listing, they have always found a way to release their other songs that they deem worthy, as a b-side / whatever... Given how big they've grown, their challenge is to bring together all of their fan base and satisfy as many people as possible, which means if you only like a certain portion / genre of their music, then there will be significant amounts of an album to dislike. Consider doing the unthinkable and take advantage of the iTunes revolution by only buying / listening to songs you like? Even though MX is my favorite album just by strength of their first 9 songs (up to MM), I only rarely listen to the whole album in its entirety... I often skip straight to UWtB after that

Amazing Day
I think some of us may have over-focused on the 'feet-shuffling' and 'uplifting feel' of the record that's been teased to us for months... I'm sure if you were eagerly awaiting signs of that then Amazing Day would've been a let down of sorts. I can see how some fans are disappointed that this is the first glimpse of actual music that will potentially be on LP7. As I've said before, brave choice on the part of the band to debut something that is not what they are known for right in the middle of a non-concert fan base, as a closer, and as the first new music potentially for the album. They must have known they'd come in for some criticism... Which makes me wonder whether they are road-testing to tinker with it, or maybe to decide whether it makes it to the album. What do you guys think? It kinda seems obvious that it has the potential in the right incarnation to be a killer ballad and concert closer, which leads me to think they are tinkering with it by testing it live... But the lack of comment / announcement by the band about its position in the album / their overall discography makes me think maybe the band is having an internal disagreement about it (eg whether to include it in LP7), which makes for a tantalizing prospect... Better songs than that on the album :bliss:

:laugh3: I'm actually surprised that the debate seems to have ended... Remember the good ol' days? There'd be 14 pages of fiery comments by now. Btw, good to see you kaisin :loveshower:

^ I wonder whether they might commit to performing every year, be the in-house band :P

[26-SEP-2015] Global Citizen Festival, New York
Sorry if anyone has seen this already but I had a quick look in the threads and didn't find any references to this... Heard someone say that CM will be involved with the Global Citizen Festival for the next 15 years and was surprised I hadn't seen it publicized anywhere, so did a Google search... Guess what, found this on RollingStone no less! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chris-martin-will-curate-global-citizen-festival-for-next-15-years-20150217 Looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of GCF (and Chris) :)

Amazing Day
Another example of unsubstantiated allegations... What is this particular comment based on? Has anyone actually made this sort of 'wishy-washy, vague or utterly irrefutable' comment in this thread / regarding Amazing Day, or even regarding the band's output that then has actually been defended without basis? On the other hand, if people actually find meaning in so-called chicken scratch, are they not entitled to express their opinion on why they find it meaningful (or indeed not, if you're inclined the other way)?

Amazing Day
:idea2: We should start a petition one day and send it to the band... Songs with solo sections for each of the band members! I'm sure they're each technically competent and confident to do that. What do you think? :)

Amazing Day
I noticed Guy's guitar playing was very clean and polished whereas Jonny is still getting into the feel for it and was a bit sloppy. I reckon there's room in the song for both to further develop their lines though, that makes me excited :D I love how they're never finished with a song and always exploring new lines / angles / arrangements long after the album has dropped
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
They'll mix it up... All their albums have contrasting songs - more upbeat vs downbeat songs. They've also stated before that they're looking for tension between their songs, hence the contrast. They'll find room for Amazing Day in the album if they think it belongs (think upbeat ASFOS in downbeat GS)

The epic COLDPLAY vs. COLDPLAY game - everything against everything
Yellow GCF 2015!!! I'm so glad someone else noticed.... That bass and lead guitar are just epic, explosive even! I was almost gonna mention it but thought people might not find that worthy of discussion CM + Beck or CM + Faultline?

Amazing Day
On a more on-thread note, can I just say this song is still triggering a more intense emotional reaction than I expected... It's still giving me the shivers and butterflies in my stomach. Imagine when they get to the point where Jonny and Chris hit all their points right :shocked2:... CP haven't done that to me in awhile :)

[26-SEP-2015] Global Citizen Festival, New York
Those two would really make a fab collab... The same way CM + Beck @ the Grammies was amazing!

LMAO :laugh3: The other band members can fire Chris now we've found a viable alternative :laugh4:
