  1. 11 times in my short 23 years of life (and that's not counting the number of times I've moved back home in between transitions)!
  2. LOTR no question. I've tried watching Star Wars a number of times throughout my life... Although some scenes were truly moving (e.g. Luke confronting Darth Vader and realising his father is about to die), I've never managed to connect enough with any of the movies to truly enjoy the experience
  3. Isn't it great that so many years after they've been around, Radiohead keep getting responses like this from people all the time?!! :shocked2: I would have been telling the exact same story one year ago! And it's a typical RH story in this thread - finally discovering Radiohead after years and years and not getting enough of them. Once the understanding comes, it all comes in a rush... there's no stopping it. I couldn't handle Radiohead for the longest time, but once I 'got' them, I was totally floored. It's a good thing though that they've been around for quite awhile and have so much material that's all very diverse as well... I would've died if I had to wait for their new album and worry over all the break-up rumours after listening to something as amazing as the Bends. So hats off to all who've been fans since the start and have still managed to keep sane :D
  4. Well, how about if you just called it a match-up and changed the voting criteria and just asked people to vote for the best band (between the winner and CP) - kind of like the FIFA Confederations Cup? Just a pure and simple vote, no absolute criterion applied. They could vote based on talent, popularity, etc. Anything that fits their own definition of what is "the best"...
  5. Haha, I voted for the Beatles although I like both bands' music about equally - they move me in very different ways :D But yeah, the Beatles... for beating Radiohead
  6. How about at the end of all this, we pitch the winner of the Music WC against Coldplay and see who wins? :shocked2: I know I'd sure be interested to see who wins that contest, especially if it was based on musical merit rather than sentiment :laugh3: :D Coldplay might not win by that big a margin after all. And of course I voted for RH  No offence or implications intended but Muse are generally too fluffy for my taste...
  7. How about the next time the competition's organised, people vote for the band that they think deserve to win (either based on their musical talent/ability and / or popularity/hugeness)? I know that for myself the bands that really move me are not necessarily the best in terms of talent / ability... I mean Radiohead are clearly miles ahead of CP musically, but I might not have voted for Radiohead if CP had not been made ineligible in this tournament (so in a way thank goodness I didn't have to make that tough decision :P).
  8. Not in a literal way... The words all fit and make sense, just not in any logical manner. It all just feels right, and the whole song just belongs. I can't explain what the song's about, except that it brings you somewhere safe, and comfortable, and just reaches that space where everything is right
  9. ^ You said it right there. Although one could compare points about these two bands, people would mostly probably be talking past each other. Yep, Radiohead for me, just because they mean a whole lot more to me
  10. I've no problems with layers / common themes, in fact I really admire and generally do like bands that try to do that... All that effort they put into their music really does show :nice: It's just that I felt that in Takk, Sigur Ros didn't have enough new ideas in the album - the music didn't move (ie. change) fast enough. And there weren't enough moments to lift the album into the "absolutely brilliant" category. * And I need to edit the 3 songs I were referring to :embarassed: : I meant Hoppipolla, Saeglopur and Gong :P
  11. ^ My only problem with Takk is that there're only 3 proper songs in there... The rest of the album is built around these 3 tracks. And although glossoli, saeglopur and gong are mindblowingly beautiful, they're not quite enough to carry the whole album through. IMO, the band didn't quite make enough of the remaining material to make it a really satisfying listen.
  12. Am I the only one here who thinks the Franz Ferdinand sound is ordinary and even a tad grating?
  13. Radiohead. No contest. Poor Elliot Smith - they should have met at a later stage of the competition. ^ Yeah, something to the magnitude of how Bush won his presidency (God, hopefully that doesn't happen) :laugh3:
  14. Same sentiments here... Same order of votes too :P
  15. Way too sad.. But the Doves didn't make it in Group A?!!! I was too late to vote! :bigcry:
  16. 1. Sigur Rós 2. The Flaming Lips 3. Interpol 4. The Zutons
  17. Is voting for this still open? Anyways... Sufjan Stevens Elliot Smith Kaiser chiefs Franz Ferdinand
  18. ^ Really? What a harsh result for him! I was beyond shocked by the mistakes he made in the 3rd match but do feel for him - he's usually one of the better referees around... He'll be missed in the Premiership.
  19. 10,000 pounds is a lot, but I don't think it was that crazy to go for the Socceroos... I probably would've gone with Australia rather than Italy as well (if I had that kind of money). Italy haven't been playing that well, their team spirit's a bit weak; and in football, self-belief and that never-say-die attitude counts for a lot... Man U would never have won their '99 Champions League if it wasn't for their fighting spirit. I suppose it's the going for the underdog thing and not knowing when you're beaten that Chris identifies with. Plus they're touring Australia, which Chris keeps saying is a great country- guess you've got to put your money where your mouth is :laugh3: Good on you, Chris!
  20. My votes go to... Mansun (British Band arguably rivalling RH in the 90's, not the girl group Madison / Marilyn Manson) Sufjan Stevens Jeff Buckley Badly Drawn Boy Doves Foo Fighters Guns N Roses Jamiroquai the Smiths the Backstreet Boys :shocked2: - Hey you can't argue with 20 million odd teenagers (assuming each one bought all 4 of their albums) :laugh3: And somebody, get Elvis, Nirvana, the Verve, ?Robbie Williams and Pink Floyd in there as well!
  21. Some video links of the Brisbane concert I managed to take... Crappy sound, but the image quality's pretty good I reckon. Square One and In My Place and Fix You are recorded in various segments of up to about 30 secs. The only complete vid I have is of Talk, 4:30 minutes long Bits of Square One http://rapidshare.de/files/24045141/Square_One_1.AVI http://rapidshare.de/files/24045244/Square_One_2.AVI http://rapidshare.de/files/24046011/Square_One_3.AVI Bits of In My Place http://rapidshare.de/files/24042222/...ace_1.AVI.html http://rapidshare.de/files/24044104/...ace_2.AVI.html http://rapidshare.de/files/24045288/In_My_Place_3.AVI Fix You (Ending) - Hopefully it's the correct one now :P http://rapidshare.de/files/24517296/...ding_.AVI.html Talk - full video (about 4:30 min long) Check out Chris at around 4:10! http://www.sendspace.com/file/yo6obq or for you RS fans out there... Here's Talk in 2-part .rar files http://rapidshare.de/files/24517165/Talk.part1.rar http://rapidshare.de/files/24516962/Talk.part2.rar I've loads of photos... About as good quality as Bonabon took... Should I post them here? Or should I ask interested people to PM me with their e-mails and I'll send? :D Hope you guys like the vids
