To Share or Not To Share....
I say share.... Although it's illegal, it's real uncharitable of the artists' labels (or even the artists themselves) to come after people who share bootlegs of concerts... I mean after all, it's not like they can release / sell all of them or that all of them are of that quality. They should treat it as free publicity and encourage it. Heck, maybe even the fans should get paid :P And music's a cultural thing... It belongs to the community

Will Coldplay ever make a classic album?
I get your point. But I think sometimes a lot of the people don't realise how prevalent and "influential" Coldplay have become. The thing about them is they're not loud, therefore people don't tend to notice when they've been influenced. It's a subconscious thing. I think if Coldplay are around long enough and keep making quality music, one day people may look back and realise how much the band've shaped the musical landscape.

Will Coldplay ever make a classic album?
I would buy it... but my parents won't allow me to purchase anything online. Credit card issues. I'll keep looking though. Thanks Camille :D

"Talk" - which version?
My vote goes to Leaked... The lyrics are better, it has more riffs, and is more focused. Production-wise, the album version is better & more complete (and yes, it fits with the whole album more), the bass-line's much improved... But from the old, I really do miss the flow, and the hypnotic part that goes "I'm looking at pattern...". The guitar blastout at the end of that section (about 03:45)was really good too, it had impact. They did retain that riff in the album version, but it's been obscured by the bigger sound coming from the other parts. I wonder why couldn't they have retained the guitar blastout solo from the original version (put it in an earlier part, at the end of the first verse maybe?), and retained the lyrics. The finale (around the 4-minute mark) guitar blast from the album version is really good though and belongs there :D

BEST COLDPLAY ALBUM
^ Yep, I would agree that they have built on their style in AROBTTH and X&Y. They do have some lovely sounds and infinitely more layers in there ;)

BEST COLDPLAY ALBUM
I disagree. The style in Parachutes was already very well developed. If there's one thing critics can't accuse Coldplay of doing, it's saying that they've not developed whatever style of music they have on display in their albums, though it could be argued that AROBTTH was halfway toward X&Y. I can't see the songs in Parachutes being improved by much without losing some of its original feel / character. I guess by saying that, I'm kind of admitting that for the band, there wouldn't be much point for them musically to produce another "parachutes"...

Congrats Albie... Guess you've all the bragging rights now :D (Not that u didn't in the first place)- Will Coldplay ever make a classic album?
^ I must be the only person in the world who hasn't heard OK Computer :o :embarrased:  I've been looking for it... Along with the Bends. Can't find it. *sigh* I can't take that I've not heard what's considered one of the best alt rock albums of modern times. Can some kind soul point me in the right direction?- Murder - Studio version
^ Studio version's on its way- Talk (leaked ages ago) vs Proper X&Y Talk
Oh Talk of old, whither have you gone???- BEST COLDPLAY ALBUM
I guess it's just because Parachutes is a very moving and emotional album. Although its very subtle and soft, the emotion on display is accessible. To put it another way, if Coldplay started off with X&Y (instead of Parachutes), I guess a lot of us here might not have noticed them or would have just dismissed their music.- HIIII, EVERY1!..... Me from Indonesia...
Hiya... Me from just next door. Hollerin' to my neighbour... Nice to see you guys, too few of us from around here innit? :D- Talk (does anybody know the song of Kraftwerk...)
Hey... long's no prob (for me anyway), I love stuff like this... Way too few such discussions :D Yeah I know, the thought of Phil Collins (no disrespect to him / his music) being called influential and ground-breaking is hillarious  Thanks for all this info, it's nice to get to know other viewpoints apart from the "textbooks", which though they try, are by no means complete. Neways, as far as music genres go, I've to admit I'm a bit confused by the electronica movement... Going a bit away from the topic of this thread, but I mean how's it supposed to sound like or what characterises a piece of music as electronica? I've heard the repetitive trance music part, but then VH1 (or was that MTV)'s review of X&Y called it an electronica album... What's with that? Of all the things that have been used to describe Coldplay, I'd never have dreamed electronica would be one... I still don't understand but I've to admit its pretty cool though: Coldplay = Electronica - Are you religious?
I have a slightly different viewpoint. Religion gives people a sense of belonging, another way for us to relate to one another. Everybody practices and believes their own individual form of religion, even if they belong to an organised religion and follow every rule / tenet set out... We still end up doing and believing different things from our fellow believers. I think religion in general, if you do belong to one and believe in it that is, does indicate a certain way of thinking, and of doing things, which you can never really escape even if you don't exactly practice the tenets of the religion... I mean sure, a self-confessed believer of Christianity may not go to church or say prayers before meals, but that doesn't mean that he / she isn't God-fearing or humbled by the thought of a greater being out there in the Christian tradition. Similarly in Buddhism, even if you're not a vegan (i.e. still indirectly bring harm to other beings), that doesn't mean you don't try your best in other ways not to harm others... In that sense I think, all of us who are spiritual carry a little bit of all the religions of the world with us, the only determining factor being which one got to us first or which one plays the most central role in our lives.- Ever Cry While Listening To Coldplay?
Yeah... More than once. I remember Trouble, Don't Panic and In My Place though...- Ian is such a nice guy

It really depends on my mood... Right now I usually like the spacier ones (those not so complex & cluttered up) simply coz they're easier to listen to. A Message is tops... Also Square One, How You See The World- Talk (does anybody know the song of Kraftwerk...)
yeah, i agree.... in some ways, they were just as influential as The Beatles....... Why then doesn't anyone mention them in the same breath as all the influential groups mentioned above, lets say The Beatles, U2, the Police etc? I mean, I've never seen them named as influential, not even in non-pop mag references (e.g. music textbooks) that DO mention people like the Police & even (gasp!) Phil Collins... :o - I've reached 15k
