This guy's a real good songwriting... His lyrics & the way he conveys the emotions... Biting. He's a rare one.

I guess despite having been around for awhile, Coldplay still have some way to go... They keep improving of course, but still haven't got there yet. I'm just happy they're live playing has definitely improved, by a lot! Bands like Pink Floyd... They've been around for a couple of decades :D And just maybe, they were already better instrument players when they first started out. Of Coldplay songs being simple... Yep, their lines / notes themselves I guess are not that difficult, but the sound that comes out is beautiful... That my friend, producing that sound is not easy.

Well, I don't know about them being not up to mark overall as a band... But yeah, I agree Chris did have a lot of off-key / nearly off-key moments :P But performance-wise apart from his voice (seems to almost be near cracking point half the time :dozey: ), they were solid, especially the rest of the band... I've never seen them so note-perfect before... From what I've seen from the video, they've improved a lot (except Chris) since Live 2003. I can't decide why they weren't smiling much during the concert though... :huh:

I think bumping old threads is good... but not for the reasons stated in the poll. There're less double-thread postings. Also, I like that the threads carry a little bit of history :D

I know it's looks ridiculous but surprisingly for me, what genre an album belongs to would affect my rating for it :rolleyes: My ratings for X&Y out of 10... If it's a pop album = 10 If it's a rock album = about 6 or 7 :confused: If I had to rate it just as an album (not bothering with what genre it belongs to) then I'd give it a 10 (coz I'm biased toward the band :D) I guess it doesn't really matter what genre the album belongs to... it is good music after all. But just as a matter of interest, is the band marketed in your country as pop / alt-rock? And would that affect how you think of them?

That was exactly what I was trying to get at... It coming from Coldplay, I assumed straight out that X&Y was a rock album... It always bugged me that some 'rock' hallmarks (e.g. focus on lyrics, less-layered & more focused sounds) were missing, which bugged me a whole lot and affected how I enjoyed (and rated) X&Y. I mean it has A LOT of good qualities, just not the typical ones one looks for in a rock album... Once that possibility began to sink in, I finally started enjoying the album much more :D C'mon people... Most of you say X&Y is both rock and pop. Is it strictly just that, or are there any other influences, I mean how would you describe the album? :) Those who say it's neither, what is it then and why? :D

Actually compiling this list isn't easy... I think most of us here are more into alt rock/melancholic stuff. I know I certainly had to rack my brains for cheerful songs :rolleyes: It's just that uplifting songs for me don't have to be cheerful, neither do cheerful songs=uplifting :D Dunno if that makes sense? :/

No... :snore: Is this even a possibility? Even if the critics and half the world wished they'd disappeared, it just ain't gonna happen :lol: But seriously... They'll definitely be doing more albums unless something gets between them and they break up, which looking at the way they've been going seems unlikely, provided they don't start taking one another for granted. They have been together so long now and they do seem to genuinely like each others company... that's not easy to fake. But I digress. Whatever happens, there'll still be loads in their back catalogue that'll be enough to make 5 more album :D
