To Search For Nothing- Original Song
So, this thread used to have more original music inspired by like-minded bands. So here's a song ..not so much inspired by Coldplay, maybe more U2 (think Rattle and Hum era) and Radiohead (texture especially at end of song sounds a bit Burn the Witch-ish) But yeah, I'm a musician living in the deep south (Alabama) and no one here locally likes any music I make. I do have some Coldplay inspired music on my Youtube channel as well. But today, I'm only ask you give this song a shot.. preferably in headphones since I have to mix that way. I also put together a video composed of different streams of water (I think music and water is closely linked) and other beautiful 4K footage. Thank you and everyone have a great day.

🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
Probably not the most positive thing to post but I'm starting to feel this album won't be the one for me. It seems Coldplay has a pattern of being very poppy, then very artsy. One for them, the record label and all that, and then one for the band.. basically playing whatever they want. I like the artsy Coldplay. They got Max Martin to produce and that guy is responsible for just about every #1 hit in America but that's not really a good thing to me. In fact, one may argue that music here, at least in the top 50, has become very homogenized and all sounding very much similar to one another. I could be wrong, it might surprise me. But I wasn't a big fan of AHFOD compared to one of their more artsy albums and I have a feeling this album is "one for them, the label." I'm sure I'll love the companion EP though. ?

I made a song heavily influenced by my Coldplay roots. Sorry for the crappy angle on the camera. You can still see my fingers on the piano at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBdi7ezOFD0- Vive la Résistance or Love Behind Enemy Lines
Hey guys, this is a song with many influences, but as you can tell from the title, Coldplay is a big one. Though, I discuss the song in detail in the link. I will say that I've worked on this song, on and off, for 2 years. So I'm super nervous about what people think, but here's why I really made this song.. I live in Alabama.. in the US. People here are, mostly older people here are.. conservative. They exist in a simpler time. I have friends and family that are almost gearing for war, stocking on guns, etc.. It's just sad because their reaction to gun violence is to get more guns. It's like America as a whole acts like it has an auto-immune disease. We invite more danger in as a reaction to an already dangerous landscape. I remember the way Paris handled their terrorist attacks in 2015. It was this air of .."we will not let this alter us. We will remember, but we will not dwell. We will not let this nightmare invade our dreams and turn the very fabric of our good nature against us. And I thought about Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. It almost perfectly captured that mood. It was a dark period but a hopeful one. It ended on a song about war and recycled revenge. It's now my ode to my family and friends. And this is my sorta version of that same response to terror. Hope you guys like! From what I've seen from Tom's replies on twitter is that they never really broke up. They're just taking a break while he does some solo work that he thinks will help during his recovery process. As far as my favorites.. On a Day Like Today.. that song is just structured so right. It builds and builds.. beautiful. And there's many more ..Bedshaped is up there. They've made some great albums. Strangeland, I love that whole album.- A L I E N S
Yeah, I can't believe I didn't hear it in the video. In all fairness, it was after I had only heard the song one time. So, I feel this is probably the only collection of songs I could maybe use to win over a Radiohead fan with. I mean.. there's a ton of us that are fans of both.. but we all know a few Radiohead fans that hate everything about Coldplay. And what's weird is ..this seems to be one of the first collection of songs that were assembled much like a Radiohead album- with some songs dug way from the past. I'm glad they waited.. it did have a more organic MX sound to it on the video. I love the new bass-y Coldplay. Coldplay with teeth.. kinda thing.- A L I E N S
Ok.. since VLV ..hasn't Eno worked with them for every album (other than AHFOD)? I imagine some of the blowback from reviewers/fans of AHFOD has scared Coldplay back into Eno's arms. Luckily for all our sakes.- A L I E N S
I mean.. if you go back to the 2nd page of this thread, I think. I comment how I believe this song was going to be about this very thing. And how it was just a cheeky joke to use the A L I E N S spacing. (Which I also love)- A L I E N S
Totally disagree. I've always been so dumbfounded by Coldplay fan's love of 1- that song VLV, and 2- that album VLV. Do I like jamming to the live version of Lost? Uh, yeah. Do I like Strawberry Swing? Sure. But nothing on that album touches pre-X&Y Coldplay.. except maybe a spark in Ghost Stories.. it was a sliver, but it was there. And this album.. is finally, I think, Coldplay and Eno really melding into a vision of this band they've wanted for years.. since they've worked together. This is why Chris said before the release of AICTAIY, this is maybe his favorite group of Coldplay songs.. ever. Me too. Definitely since 2002.- A L I E N S
Seriously though.. I love this new Coldplay. I love it. 2:25 mark in this song.. so Parachutes!!! This is the closest we've ever gotten to this band tapping into their pre-X&Y perfection.- A L I E N S
I don't hear A L I E N S so much.. but 20 seconds before that particular song.. I do hear Chris start the melody with his acoustic to UFO from Mylo Xyloto. UFO.. Aliens.. so we're all hearing.. stuff.- Kaleidoscope EP
Hah, but how do you really feel? Hah, no I feel the exact same way.. the only sentiment I would change is to switch our feelings on AICTAIY with Hypnotised. Both great.. but the former is the king to me. At least all of the other collabs Coldplay have done so far feature melodic and catchy artists. Even The Chainsmokers, as repetitive, bland, and generic as their music is (admitting this despite how much I like them anyways), doesn't come nowhere near as close as terrible to modern day hip hop artists. And by the way, it's not that I dislike hip hop music. A lot of it before the mid to late 2000's is actually pretty good. Most were catchy songs with a supporting melody, a good beat, and in certain instances lyrics that actually told a story (more apparent in hip hop music before right around 2000 rolled around). This song I've posted is amongst the most annoying and unlistenable tracks I've ever heard. For Coldplay to collab with Big Sean.... it just boggles my mind. Hopefully this isn't a sign they're going to go trap the next album, and if they do I'm out. (But I honestly think the other band members won't let that happen... :D) Best thing that could happen is, Coldplay's influence still makes this song listenable and Big Sean is positively influnced by this collaboration, possibly leading him to break this awful no-melody mediocre-beat and lyrics bleh that is the genre right now, and maybe he can bring back songs like "Changes" (my fav hip hop song ever) with atmospherics, a beautiful melody, and a real story along with a strong beat that forms a really good hip hop song. /rant 3. A L I E N S - Really cool title. Excited for this one. Wonder if it'll include the beat we heard in that one soundcheck a long time ago... Excited to hear that Eno wrote A L I E N S and is co producing it. This one's definitely gonna be good! 4. Something Just Like This (Tokyo Remix) Coldplay & The Chainsmokers - Still have yet to listen to it. Sounds interesting though. (I know that it's really just the live version of the song from Tokyo, but still... Hopefully it's a step up from the normal version, which I still really enjoy.) 5. Hypnotised - One of Coldplay's best songs, and greatest of all time. It's a new classic. Perfect closer for an EP like this. Date - Just in time for when I leave for vacation. Sucks that it got delayed yet again, and June 2 to July 14 is actually a really long time, but hopefully this time allowed for the other songs to be even better. Although, if this happened only to let that other collab happen, I am extremely disappointed (unless it'll change hip hop music for the better vastly, and bring back it's glory days.) Note: I heard that Hypnotised is supposedly the "EP mix" of it. Wonder if it'll sound any different then the version we know now...- A L I E N S
No, here's what I think happened. They wrote a song that dealt with ...strangeness, being cut off from someone, etc.. normal stuff, really. And that's why it's called Aliens. But when writing out the songlist, someone (probably Will ..it usually is) thought it'd be funny to use the same capitalization and spacing as the movie. That's my prediction, anyway.- All I Can Think About Is You
So, I just looked at that Tokyo performance on Youtube where they play this live. Wow, this song was born to be played live! Whoever produced this had one job- contain this beast in a studio setting and don't fuck it up. Was it Eno? Seems too gritty to be the guys from that last pop album. Also wow, in that live version.. I love the way Chris Martin just jumped up from the piano abruptly as the song plays it's last note. The song ends in a sorta fierce walkaway. It really is a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am ending. And Chris Martin probably just jumped up to hurriedly grab a guitar or something for the next song. But I would totally dig it if the ending was a way to tell the haters 'We're still Coldplay, motherfuckers. And we still have rock in us yet."- All I Can Think About Is You
This is actually my favorite Coldplay song ...in quite some time. Probably X&Y era.. as far as first listen.. 'this is amazing' type song. A few things though... unlike a lot of people here, I love the mix. I listen to a lot of M83, I don't mind the loud synth. It's a lovely.. almost gritty mix. They used a lot of space with the room mics in the mix. I love it.. I hear enough 'clean' mixes. I actually had more of a problem with the mix to Hypnotised. I mean.. did that keyboard loop really need to override the piano SO much? I've always thought Coldplay should mix the highlights of each companion album/EP/B-sides...I mean I would've been thrilled if Viva La Vida left off a few tracks for Glass of Water and Prospekt's March. Or if X&Y left off a few tracks for Proof or Things I Don't Understand. But I also get that ...leaving some of the poppier songs on albums and then following with a handful of songs for the old fans is a neat way to grow your base and keep your fans.- A L I E N S
I mean.. am I the only one to call a spade a spade here? This title is SO a nod to the movie 'Aliens'. Definitely, the double-spacing of the letters, anyway.- The Law of Jante
Hey guys, I made a new song. I hate that I feel I'm spamming people sometimes. Sharing your music over the internet is a little bit like asking random people on the street for your time. But my family and friends haven't been exactly supportive. They don't even listen to my music. All I want is ...someone to listen. To say.. yes, I exist. I felt this.. and this is the best I can convey those feelings. And ..for someone to acknowledge that... not exactly be impressed by it.. or wow'd by it.. but to just say "hey, sometimes the way you sing.. or the notes you chose.. they're validated. They're real.. they reflect" Because without that.. I'm just a tree that fell in the woods.. with no one around to have heard it. And it makes me question my existence. Sorry for being so 'meta' tonight. But please, have a listen. You don't have to say anything, Bandcamp will show that someone heard. I think it's because Radiohead obviously are very good at using off-kiltered notes and dissonance in their music ..to their advantage. They use strange beats and rhythms and ..everyone knows that it takes talent to do that. Yet, sometimes we all just love the simplicity of Coldplay. I totally get it.- [2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
There's a couple of things I'll say as someone that's not been a fan of this whole Super Bowl gig. I loved it- for one. I hate seeing this band reach such commercial success, I really do. A part of me realizes that .. Coldplay just has never been edgy like U2 and I think they make the same level of success seem like more of a sell-out ...whereas U2 seemed to beat to the tune of their own drummers, so to speak.. and make music like they've always had- zero room for peer pressure.. for musical collaborations, etc.. I still believe it was studioheads that pushed Beyonce into AHFOD because of this gig. But alas... moving on. As everyone else here- my favorite part was the mash-up of Clocks/Fix You ..into Up and Up (that song still has such live potential) The worst part of ....all of this is the Super Bowl brings out the worst in people. It really does. Everyone in America and on the internet is so hyperbolic in nature. Everything is "oh god, Coldplay is the worst half-time show ever!" or "Oh god, Beyonce is the worst! She needs to lose 50 pounds." or it's always something. Music's meaning will always be subjective.. and people are so used to doing nothing but sitting in their computer chairs/judgemental thrones and feeling a little bit better about themselves because they got to share their over-valuated nasty opinion about other talented artists they've never been into as "the worst thing since AIDS". Everything is awesome in America until it's the worst thing that's ever happened.- [2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
The more I think about it... the more I'm absolutely sure this whole album ..songs ..date released.. artwork.. American inspired music.. choosing of the feat. artists, etc.. is all about the half-time show of the Super Bowl. And if you doubt this... think about this for a second. What are the odds that Coldplay would be releasing an album at this particular time.. .and just a week after a single/music video is released with a former Super-Bowl half-time artist, Beyonce, who happens to be a featured artist and starring in the video.. then be performing for the historic 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl the very next week? Even AOAL ...that sounded like Bruno Mars to me.. oh look.. Bruno Mars is just confirmed for the half-time show. Like these artists weren't chosen long ago? I think this is good and bad news.. yes, the album sounds like a sell-out for a reason. But at least I think the band's new 'direction' maybe be contrived ...to make them a hit ...get them mass-appeal .. at this show. They could potentially get a lot of new fans.. reach new fame levels.. blah blah. Then they'll be back to the Coldplay we know and love ..again. *crosses fingers*- Sarah Palin ...remix
So I had a little fun today.. at Sarah Palin's expense.- Chris Martin: David Bowie Rejected Coldplay Collaboration
This was my response- In all fairness- for anyone that just states that Coldplay is a sucky band- listen to the song Moving To Mars and tell me you don't hear David Bowie influence. The problem with Coldplay is they're trying to appeal to the younger audience now. They're just too nice. They're listening to those studio heads whispering in their ears too much. But there's some serious talent still there. So yes, here you have it- a nuanced opinion on the internet that's not "Coldplay's great!" or "Coldplay sucks!". Crazy, huh?- CLOCKS WARM PAD MULTITRACK
There needs to be a safer way of sharing that file. 4Shared almost crashed my cpu- I still can't use my bottom deskbar. It kept wanting me to install a program to download the file. I used 4Shared before too. I don't remember these issues. - Persevere (A Coldplay tribute) *and nod to the NASA Rover*
