The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
In some ways that's not true but in some ways it is, too. Sigh. Shame, that. It still wouldn't hurt to throw at least a couple of those songs in anyway. I'd be thrilled if I could hear, like, "Muscle Museum" or "Bliss" or "Unintended". Or hell, if they played "Uno", and ESPECIALLY if they played "Falling Down", that'd be really awesome (I adore "Falling Down". I'd freak if they did that one sometime).

Woohoo, I'm not immensely strange after all :D! I know where you're heading with that line of thinking. Oh, my GOD. Okay, I had to show that one to my mom, 'cause she's a HUGE Monkees fan. She got a real kick out of that performance. That was awesome. (I swear, practically every single band or actor I like has made some sort of reference to the Monkees-talked about them, covered their songs, whatever. It's a really bizarre connection between my interests and my mom's, and apparently Coldplay's keeping the tradition going :p) And as always, people, the pictures are nothing less than wonderful. And I quite liked that performance of "Animals"-the music in it is so intense and dark and ominous.

...I like "Guiding Light". It would be cool to hear "Hyper Music", though, yes. Don't know if us Americans will be likely to hear "Fury", though, as that track wasn't on our copies of Absolution over here. Where in the world they're playing also likely factors into their decisions on what to play.

U2
Makes sense. I also agree, maybe if "Get On Your Boots" were in a different spot, and maybe if it hadn't been released as the first single...maybe if "Magnificent", which is more "classic U2" had been released first, then down the line they'd released "Get On Your Boots", there might've been more ability to digest that whole thing better. It's sort of like when they released "Discotheque" as the first single off of Pop. Even if U2 can do "dance" music or whatnot well, for some reason most listeners don't respond well to it from them. They seem to want their U2 more in the style of their big stadium songs or their "One"s or "Mysterious Ways" sorts of deals or something. They want them to rock. (Personally, U2's forays into dance and such don't bother me much, but then again, I'm a strange person when it comes to music tastes sometimes, so...:p) I'd never had a chance to hear the remixed version of "I'll Go Crazy..." until that clip on the last page. I actually rather like it and find it kinda interesting-it seems to harken back to their Pop days, or the sound of those remixes on their 1990-2000 best of, but yet still with a current sort of beat to it. If they do go in a dance sort of vein with their next album, oddly enough it'd be perfect given how many top 40 songs are of that nature nowadays, but at the same time, there's always the danger of them coming across as 50 some year old men who are trying to "fit in". So that experiment could either work brilliantly or fail horribly, depending on how convincingly they pull it off. By the way, I like that Nirvana song you shared there. Yeah, I've noticed Bono seemed rather shaken up a bit by how bands like Coldplay (or Muse) are starting to really look like a true threat, at least in some people's eyes. He's often always welcomed competition, but I do think his back scare, the fact that he's over 50, and seeing younger bands starting to set up their own status is unnerving him some, definitely. I fully agree. I don't think once one hits a certain age there has to be a stopping point, and I've often found more to relate to in the lyrics of U2 than, say, Katy Perry. Many artists have found themselves reinvigorated and still turning out great music the older they get, and U2 are clearly talented people, there's no reason they have to stop, should stop. For all Bono's bravado, I think he does often care a lot more about what people think of him and the band than he lets on. And while listening to constructive criticism is definitely important, at the same time, I hope he and the rest of U2 just do what they feel comfortable with. If I know a band's heart and soul went into making an album, that's all I care about. Record sales, popularity, critical acclaim, none of that matters to me. I just want the artists I love to be proud of what they put out. I want to be able to listen to an album and go, "This was clearly a labor of love" or "They sound like they had a lot of fun making this" or whatever. If there's any reassessing U2 needs to do of their work, their lives, whatever, fine, please go for it. But stop worrying so much about trying to please everyone. It never works. I speak from experience :). Love "In A Lifetime", by the way, such a gorgeous song indeed. Will have to check out those other clips shared, too, with the whole Celtic vibe and such.

Haha, no kidding, Coeurli. It wouldn't have surprised me at all to hear people at the gig in that picture were stampeding towards the stage when he made that gesture :p. Happy birthday, Comicforce! May it be filled with wonderful Chris/Coldplay-related celebration!

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Hi :). Hm. Well, we've had discussion of when the band's new album will be out (later this year, apparently), and whether or not Matt and Chris are going to be in a "see how many children we can have" competition :p. And that's pretty much been the big stuff, really, that I can think of. Heh, yeah, that's a common complaint. Eh, well. While I definitely agree it'd be great to mix up setlists and such, at the same time, there's probably all sorts of reasons why they don't/can't, so...*Shrugs*. Loved that performance of "Fury", absolutely killer job. At times the music actually kinda freaked me out, 'cause it sounded downright menacing, like some serious you-know-what was about to go down. And of course, it's always fun to watch Matt hop around like a demented kangaroo :D. I think I've yet to hear a performance of "Stockholm Syndrome" that's been anything less than stellar. For my money, though, this is my favorite live performance of the song, and perhaps my favorite live Muse performance, period. No matter how many times I see this, I'm still in total amazement by the end: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLsFL03Le3w&feature=fvst]Muse - Stockholm Syndrome (Live @ Glastonbury 2004) - YouTube[/ame]

Loving this one. All commanding and beckoning and...guh. I too like the change to the chorus of "Paradise", by the way, Mara.

Favorite official CP music video?
That version is rather cute. The ending amuses me, 'cause everyone in the band looks like they're going to start laughing at any moment at Chris' outfit :p. If we're talking favorite in terms of its concept: "The Scientist" is my pick. Though "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face" is up there, too, that one's pretty cool. I like how "Twilight Zone"-y it sorta is. If we're talking purely in shallow, find-someone-in-it-attractive terms: "Violet Hill".

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wow. Hi. *Clean thoughts. Clean. Thoughts* :laugh3:! That is fantastic. The Pokemon one in particular...what the heck? That is one of the WEIRDEST videos I've ever seen in my life. But Chris looks soooooooooo very good in it, so I'll let it slide on that alone. (And I love the song, too) Agreed on the talk about the "Violet Hill" video, too. I really like that one. A lot. Yep. I understand this feeling. More videos to watch here, woo!

That "Nappies" video is awesome. And adorable. Gotta love men with a good sense of humor. I like that gif of Chris dancing, too. But of course! Wouldn't be complete without your name there. Echoing the congrats. Getting on up there in numbers! Well, these are just beyond cute.

U2
Fair enough assessment. Now that I think about it, you are right, there's not a lot of "hummable" songs on there, no. Not really a lot of songs that are the kind that will stick in your head all catchy-like. Much more meditative/thoughtful. Which is probably why the middle section with songs like "Get On Your Boots" and "Stand Up Comedy" and that probably throws people off so much, all that couched in the middle of an otherwise quieter album. howyousave, glad we're in agreement on "Moment Of Surrender". I've said it before, every time I hear that song I feel like I should be getting baptized or something. Cheese Nip, I don't have any U2 vinyl, no. I know my dad used to own...The Joshua Tree, at least, I believe, on vinyl, but we don't have it anymore, we lost a lot of our vinyl over the years with all our moving around and stuff, sadly. Hope you can manage to scrounge up as much of that and the singles as you can find. I'm still lacking in those areas, too. I have this crappy habit of living in towns where that sort of extensive availabilty of older, hard to find music doesn't exist :(. Or if it did at one time, it doesn't anymore. Yeah, the whole album's worth of stuff. I don't know if he tried to recall any of the old lyrics or not, I imagine he might well have-wouldn't surprise me. But he did have to come up with new lyrics, yes. Which would drive me nuts, I'd think.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Ooh. YES. "Blackout". Love that song. Love it, love it, love it. Favorite Muse song. It does sound a bit "Politik"-ish, yeah. Only significantly darker :p. Great song, though, yes. "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Sing For Absolution" are a couple more of my personal favorites. The former is what I think a comet hurtling towards Earth would sound like, and the latter is just so incredibly beautiful. I seriously could go on for hours with this album, I really could.

Oh. My. GOD. *Falls over laughing, laughs for, like, 10 minutes straight* That was easily one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen. Ever. (And now I don't feel the need to blush so much at my suggestive comment earlier-Chris sure threw out a few of his own at various points, too! The part at the beginning about the change in a woman's chest...yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah). Thank you SO much for sharing that, that was freakin' hysterical. *Wipes tears away* Glad to see some here are in agreement about my last post, too :D.

U2
I like No Line... myself *Shrugs*. "Magnificent", "White As Snow", "Breathe", "Cedars Of Lebanon" (dark, sad song, but I love the lyrics), "Moment Of Surrender"-some of my favorites. "Stand Up Comedy"-I like the music in it, but I hate the title. I know your comments about U2 finding a new direction are being echoed by many, though. Where they'll go next, who knows, but yeah, it'd be cool to see them do some revamping yet again. They're clearly capable of it. One of my top picks on there, too. YES. That would've been lovely. The Celtic feel is one of the things I love most about "Tomorrow", and I often thought that, too. I don't know if you knew about the story with October, that the original lyrics Bono had written for that album were stolen in the early '80s, so they had to come up with whole new stuff. Be curious to see what the album would've been like had they not lost those lyrics. The piano in "October" is gorgeous. It fits the title, makes me think of a cold, gray fall day, very lonely, isolated sort of feeling. Which makes it sort of odd to like a song with that sort of sad imagery, but hey :p. Agreed on the drumming, too. That's one of the best parts of "I Threw A Brick Through A Window". Also, love that desktop background. That's beautiful.

Yeah, she does. I also kinda like her hat. Chris trying to carry everything is kinda funny :laugh3:. Probably thinking, "Someone wanna give me a hand here, or...?" *Is listening to "Green Eyes". Has green eyes. Proceeds to swoon*

What is your favourite Coldplay song today?
"The Scientist". Always been my favorite Coldplay song, but I'm listening to it right now and man, is it sounding particularly good.
