  1. More listens more thoughts Crazy that it was that super cool group vocal bit from south bank but hey is it any surprise that a VLV era recording is the basis for a great song. It feels like they can layer songs again without pushing them into each other. A L I E N S in one song pretty much struck down all of AHFOD. It's a better closing track than Up&Up, and more catchy than AOAL. Chris is respecting his voice and not reaching for notes we know he has issues hitting live, the highest note in his register before falsetto doesn't sound nearly as high as Everglow, ASFOS, etc, although he seems to still do alright with those I'm sure even he appreciates the respite. Crazy that it's restored my confidence in them this much. I do like AICTAIY but it was decidedly newplay, albeit good. I don't think aliens is a brand new direction or really that out there but it's certainly AHFOD's shining champion.
  2. i'm happy you can ignore the whole aspect of that song going about this subject when you just listen to it of the EP seperately without the video. It's fantastic to be charitable with the proceeds but i think it's negative to let the music get influenced by it. Again it's Coldplay so they don't care to much of what is the most "popular" option. But it kinda bugs me Coldplay took this step. It's not a matter of opinion "Coldplay will donate all proceeds from “A L I E N S” to Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), an international NGO which rescues migrants and refugees in peril at sea in the Mediterranean." Unless your opinion is to not save people in peril at sea. I think nearly every charity they've associated with has been picked with precaution not to alienate (haha I said it) fans.
  3. The lyrics of the backing vocals remind me a lot of something I would have heard from Apparatjik actually. Gonna re listen to square peg now.
  4. Just an aliennnnnn Not bad and if you didn't hype it up to be the second coming of Death and All His Friends it's even more enjoyable. This and AICTAIY are head and shoulders above hypnotized imo. Haven't heard miracles yet but I'm gonna hazard a truly wild guess that it isn't that good.
  5. In enunciation? Beats me lol. Overall I liked Chris's voice the most from AROBTTH to X&Y and his work on VLV (the album, not the tour)
  6. It's changed a lot over the years too. Compare how he sings Trouble through each era.
  7. most tracks have been overproduced from mx on to me
  8. Yup relistened again on every medium I have haha. I think the mix is exactly what it needs to be for the track. All in all good song, Hypnotized felt half hearted to me but AICTAIY (please lets find a way to shorten that) is really enjoyable.
  9. Interesting that you guys feel that way about the production, I'll have to give it a round on headphones but I like both parts equally.
  10. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS DUDE
  11. Politik actually had two or three plays at the very beginning but they dropped it from the set.
  12. Do you guys really think they did it for sales reasons? I could maybe see the publisher doing that but maybe they really did decide to do some things last minute and it pushed it back.
  13. Is it possible that someone had an open mind and decided they didn't like MX/GS/AHFOD? I'd say out of those albums I actually do like maybe 9 songs. Primarily from MX and GS. MX was originally fine by me in the VLV afterglow but as time went on I started to realize I didn't really enjoy it the same. It's actually unfortunate that MX came before AHFOD. I think if LP5 was AHFOD and LP7 was MX most of us would say they're on the upswing. AHFOD just really, really magnifies the newplay/oldplay paradigm. Even if KEP is above AHFOD in my personal tastes the stench of the era permeates through it. "requests" and half hearted renditions of long time fan favorites? Looks really good when you can cover songs better than your own. Alleged vocal tracking? Never thought I'd see it but it's pretty convincing to me, yet somehow people found a way to excuse it. Like I said there's a lot of little things that lead us to page 136 so if you're confused why you're getting these responses that's probably why.
  14. I don't think keeping it simple is generating any meaningful discussion. That's obviously your opinion but to me I know what I know and generalizing their music as good would be like closing my eyes and covering my ears. Maybe it's best to withhold some opinions in the thread if you haven't read a fair share of it. I assure you we've had this discussion a few times now and you'd even find that I like a handful of new tracks.
  15. imo it's the most constructive and interesting thread on here, only one I really check anyways. coldplaying is a truly fantastic fansite/network but 99% is just not for me. Can't really stand the lightweight sugary stuff in other threads. Welcome @Anna Rentz I assure you everyone in here has done their due diligence on new coldplay and Chris's statements. I think most people are just fed up of seeing honestly two different people over the years. I jokingly said during MX to a friend that Chris seemed and looked different from like Madrid 2011 and on. I can't put my finger on it but something between Rock am Ring 2010 and Madrid changed. Maybe it's total paranoia but it doesn't help when they legitimately turned a new leaf, and looking back probably the biggest new leaf in their history imo. Most of his answers are just total fluff, but he still remains closed off enough that it's hard to say if he's even fed up with it or not. I think Chris has always liked a wide span of music but there's a difference between listening to A-Ha, Jay-Z, Flaming Lips, Oasis, REM; and top 40. Is he really that creatively bland now? Seems like it to me. I don't think he personally cares about the direction of Coldplay anymore, which would explain how completely empty their artistic direction has been. Ghost Stories was what, sad and black and white? No wait ASFOS is bright and colorful, wait isn't that AHFOD? But MX was about colors right? In that respect I think Viva La Vida absolutely blows out every era after. Xylobands are nice but Jason Regler got the idea during X&Y. What else has MX/GS/AHFOD done to push them artistically? I guess I can give them Up&Up but where does it fit in with AFHOD? Where are the other "dream" allusions? I don't think this is relevant to what you were talking about but I hope you can derive some knowledge from why most of us keep the thread going. I don't think it's really complaining, we still appreciate a lot of things they did, and maybe a few things they still do. I could at least concede if I felt they got better but I even disagree with that. Artistically, Critically, Technically, they're waning to me. @I ran away Nice to see people are still writing about them. I think the writer was maybe imposing a lot of things on the band that never were true. I think a lot of first two/parachutes fans unfairly judge VLV for being what it is but I always felt like it was their most succinct and complete album. arobtth is personally my favorite but If someone told me to give them the "best" album I'd hand it to VLV. Actually the section "WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF COLDPLAY ENDS THEIR CAREER?" (translated) echos a lot of what I feel about them at the moment. Them being Chris of course. He's now more than ever at the center of the band's direction, maybe not even by choice, w j and g probably are long gone on caring anymore, I can't blame them if they are. The question is do they care and want to get a grip or are they content? quote "I have to admit, I am now with Coldplay as well as with a good friend from the childhood, which you meet at a class meeting. Meanwhile, after a long period of suffering as a single, he got to know a woman, even a little rushed children with her. And now he does not want to talk about all the things that moved us together. Instead, he says that he has been preparing a new Slowfood, running every morning and playing the idea of freeing a street killer from a Romanian kennel for his own needs. And when he tells this, he seems to be seized by himself. Somehow, this makes every one of his cautious movements, he always wants to be cool. You want to shake this guy and do not do it, because all the beautiful moments of the past have been too sticky to risk a lousy, corrosive comment on a much too long evening. Instead one will call less frequently, soon only once, twice a year. No break because it was not necessary. But the bitter flicker of a disappointed love. Coldplay have suggested that "A Head Full Of Dreams" could be followed by more records. Perhaps they are back to their musical roots. I do not give up hope. Even if it is hard." end quote Poorly translated but that one hurts to read
  16. I always thought Guy was the most interesting. He produces, has hobbies he likes to talk about, member of Apparatjik. Wish he did more interviews.
  17. If he actually becomes a judge that's pretty much that and the band is done.
  18. Always In My Head stands head and shoulders above any other newplay track to me. After that nothing comes to mind right away.
  19. The difference is Lost+ was Jay-Z on top of an already very good track.
  20. They're still genuine, good people. They could descend into total EDM pumped trash but I still like the people. I also think the farther we move from MX and GS the more tolerable they are. I don't see AHFOD ever becoming likable though. Maybe it's because AHFOD made us realize we never knew how low things can go, and can still go. It almost makes me appreciate AHFOD in a twisted way.
  21. From what we got from the video seems like it could be good. Kind of reminded me of watching the weather channel though so we'll see.
  22. I think pretty good songs are hidden inside those tracks, maybe PoC more than hftw
  23. ☑️ messed up the lyrics ☑️ truncated length ☑️ incomplete instrumentation ☑️ must be an oldplay request
  24. Welcome to the club! I also laugh when I think for a second I'm getting used to AHFOD coldplay and then compare it to something like this and realize how far they've fallen off. It's also totally ok to not like them. I know on here especially people have emotional attachments to the band but you can still like what they did and distance yourself from who they are now.
