  1. Another Jeff Buckley song: 'Everybody Here Wants You'
  2. Man On The Moon 8/10 Jim Carrey is absolutely amazing.
  3. No problemo  Anything else you wanna know, give us a shout
  4. Compression is an effect where you set a "threshold" and a "ratio". Any sound level which goes over the threshold is reduced by the ratio. For instance, if you set the threshold to -20dB, and the ratio to 4:1, then any signal that goes over -20dB will be reduced by 4:1 (for every 4dB's over the threshold it only outputs 1dB). The levels then even out and you can bring the volume back up so the whole sound sits around the same level. You can also set an "attack" time and a "release" time. The attack is how long it takes for the compressor to react, and the release time is how long it takes to return the signal to its normal level. That might sound complicated, but they really are easy to use. They can be used to make instruments appear more powerful, and are normally used in bass and vocals (where notes can sound uneven because the bassist has used their fingers, or the vocalist has moved away from the mic). If you apply some compression to the vocals and a bit of reverb then they would already sound a lot better. You say you haven't used any, which is very strange - for instance, the sound of the bassdrum in the second song is actually bringing down the volume of the other instruments, which is typical with a very high compression level (it's called a "pumping" effect). And if that makes any sense, then well done.
  5. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest quite brilliant
  6. Both of them sound okay. Vocals are a bit weak and need to be compressed, and also need reverb and perhaps delay. I don't like the guitar sound either - there's too much gain on the rhythm. And don't use so much compression on the final recording! Just a little bit will do! Musically and lyrically the songs are actually pretty good. It's just the recording quality that needs improving really (and the vocals... sorry!).
  7. The White Stripes - There's No Home For You Here There's no home for you here girl, go away There's no home for you here I'd like to think that all of this constant interaction Is just the kind to make you drive yourself away Each simple gesture done by me is counteracted And leaves me standing here with nothing else to say Completely baffled by a backward indication That an inspired word will come across your tongue Hands moving upward to propel the situation Have simply halted, now the conversation's done There's no home for you here girl, go away There's no home for you here I'm only waiting for the proper time to tell you That it's impossible to get along with you It's hard to look you in the face when we are talking So it helps to have a mirror in the room I've not been really looking forward to the performance But there's my cue and there's a question on your face Fortunately I have come across an answer Which is "go away, and do not leave a trace" There's no home for you here girl, go away There's no home for you here Waking up for breakfast Burning matches Talking quickly Breaking baubles Throwing garbage Drinking soda Looking happy Taking pictures So completely stupid Just go away There's no home for you here girl, go away There's no home for you here
  8. Across The Universe
  9. Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful
  10. I fucking hate mosh pits. I'm there to see the band and enjoy the music, not to get bruises. I always enjoy the show so much more if I'm a safe distance away from the pit... not too far back though or you lose the atmosphere (that said, I'd rather stand at the back or the bar than in the pit).
  11. Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother There is a child sleeping near his twin The pictures go wild in a rush of wind The dark angel, he is shuffling in Watching over them With his black feathered wings unfurled The love you lost with the skin so fair Is free with the wind in her butterscotch hair Her green eyes bloom goodbyes With her head in her hands And your kiss on the lips of another Dream, brother With your tears scattered 'round the world Don't be like the one who made me so old Don't belie the one who left behind his name Cos they're waiting for you like I waited for mine And nobody ever came Don't be like the one who made me so old Don't belie the one who left behind his name Cos they're waiting for you like I waited for mine And nobody ever came I feel afraid and I call your name I love your voice and your dance insane I hear your words and I know your pain With your head in your hands And her kiss on the lips of another Your eyes to the ground And the world spinning 'round forever Asleep in the sand With the ocean washing over
  12. Apparently John Lennon heard that teachers were asking students to analyse the Beatles' lyrics and try and come up with some meaning behind them. So he wrote 'I Am The Walrus' as a way of saying "analyse that one, you fuckers!". :D But yeah, he probably was on LSD or something at the time. Either way they're fucking awesome lyrics, even if they don't make sense.
  13. I am me as you are he as you are me And we are all together See how they run like pigs from a gun See how they fly, I'm crying Sitting on a cornflake Waiting for the van to come Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday Man, you been a naughty boy you let your face grow long I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g'joob Mister city policeman sitting Pretty little policemen in a row See how they fly like Lucy in the sky See how they run, I'm crying Yellow matter custard Dripping from a dead dog's eye Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess Man, you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g'joob Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun If the sun don't come you get your tan From standing in the English rain I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g'joob, g'goo goo g'joob Expert textpert, choking smokers Don't you think the joker laughs at you? 14. I thought Back To The Future II was better than the first one but a lot of people would disagree with me over that one. Either way, it's still a good film... The third one is a bit shit though.
  15. I Want To Hold Your Hand
  16. Yeah, that's the one. It was on last night on Channel 4.
  17. Gosford Park 1/10 The most boring film I've ever seen. Two and a half hours long, and nothing happens... seriously, NOTHING happens.
  18. And in the end, the love you take Is equal to the love you make --The Beatles - The End
  19. Radiohead - Where I End And You Begin (The Sky Is Falling In) There's a gap in between There's a gap where we meet Where I end and you begin And I'm sorry for us The dinosaurs roam the Earth The sky turns green Where I end and you begin I'm up in the clouds I'm up in the clouds And I can't and I can't come down I can watch but not take part Where I end and where you start Where you left me alone You left me alone 'X' will mark the place Like the parting of the waves Like a house falling into the sea Into the sea I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive And there'll be no more lies And there'll be no more lies And there'll be no more lies And there'll be no more lies
  20. ^ :uhoh: methinks whoever made that site has far too much time on their hands.
  21. Well, I have an A-level in English Language & Literature, so I'm hoping that combined with my Music degree would help me get some sort of career going in music journalism. If not, then I guess a journalism course would be an idea, but it would probably only be a basic diploma or something, just to get some sort of qualificiation in it. Overall, if it means spending even more money on tuition fees etc. then I think it's unlikely :/ Anyway, I could always specialise in Music Technology journalism. There are plenty of magazines and journals that specialise in sound recording and production (e.g. 'Sound On Sound', 'Computer Music', 'Future Music' etc.) and there's no doubt a degree in music tech would be better than journalism in that sort of magazine. Besides, I'd rather have a career in sound engineering above journalism, but it's always a good idea to keep options open, eh?
  22. I'm in my first year at uni (DeMontfort in Leicester) studying a B.A.(Hons) degree in 'Music, Technology and Innovation'. After my degree, I'd like to be a sound engineer for a music studio (or even better, a producer). But since the music industry is the hardest thing that someone can get a job in (apart from fashion), I'm preparing for the fact that no studios will hire me. So I'm also thinking about going into radio broadcasting (not presenting though... more like production), or as a sound engineer for the BBC, or as a music journalist.
  23. Let There Be Love is a great song. It would have been better if they'd used the lyrics from the original demo instead, cos they're much better in my opinion... But these new ones aren't too bad anyway. Anyway, yeah it's a great song.
