10 reasons Coldplay should be more respected than they are
I think if Viva actually brought their reputation up. I think X&Y really burst the bubble that was formed from Parachutes and AROBTTH - and I mean the sense that the next Radiohead was Coldplay. I think that was the expectation and when X&Y came out, no one expected it and the critics weren't pleased. I think that's part of the reason Coldplay doesn't get say high 80's or low 90's in metacritic. Simply because Coldplay changes their album tone so much with such variety, I think it always pisses people off. I mean, if Viva came from Arcade Fire, I guarantee it's at least as critically acclaimed as A Rush. People expected the harder sound from Parachutes to A Rush. People didn't expect the spacier sound of X&Y, or the grand sound of Viva, or the electronic feel of MX - or at least, they didn't like the change. I think the only way Coldplay can get universal critic acclaim again is if they went to the basics. No one can insult that. No one can say that the sound is a gimmick. But that is one of the best parts of Coldplay. You can always count on them to surprise, no matter if you like it or not.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
I am totally going to make a playlist for each album. This is awesome.

LP6 Excitement! (it's prediction time)
1. 11 with a hidden track 2. 49 minutes 3. March or November, depends on how finished the album is. 4. I think it will be dark, because I am hoping the album contrasts MX. 5. I think it will be heavy and dark, with hard rock songs like Politik, mixed with songs like trouble. I also think the album with flow with a lot of transitions.

MX was over produced, for sure, but I don't think it sucks. I think MX/HLH, Us Against the World, Don't Let It Break Your Heart are all great songs. But yeah, Paradise was good for the first few listens, but now I just deal with it. MX is about equal or bit lower than X&Y when it comes to favorite albums.

Is Charlie Brown THE BEST Coldplay song...EVER??
My top 5 are: 1. Clocks 2. Poltik 3. Amsterdam 4. Strawberry Swing 5. Trouble And Charlie Brown isn't close. I like the song, but I find it sort of boring. I agree with the poster above me that it's over produced, like a lot of MX. I like the first verse, but then it always seems to lose me. I'd say its in the top 15, but then, I'd need to think about that really.

Coldplay will release track "Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack on 6/8 Sept
Sorry, but The Beatles are in a whole other level. It's not an insult to Coldplay. Coldplay is an amazing band with greats songs and albums. They are by far one of the best bands of the 2000's, if not the best. But The Beatles took Rock'n'roll and redefined it into all the different sub-genres like soft rock, progressive rock, hard rock. Not only that, but they were the first British music even popular in America. Before them, Americans only listened to American music. If Coldplay is to be compared with any old band, I'd say the Wings (with Paul McCartney) are the best comparison. Both bands are commercially successful, have had critically acclaimed albums, and compile a lot of hate from idiots.

Even though I didn't experience Viva, I feel like it was really personal in the way the music sounded and the way that Coldplay did their concerts. It sucks I was on the outside looking in :(

Strawberry Swing Cover
Impressive guitar-play man. And not too bad on the vocals either. I wish I was as good with the piano as you are with the guitar.

And then watch it be dupstep. :shocked2:

Coldplay will release track "Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack on 6/8 Sept
Maybe not.... I could picture dark piano ballad that slowly gets more powerful and gains more tension. Wouldn't that make sense? Especially when he sings, "We're about to explode." Then again, there is a good chance that it will be a big sound. But does the chorus sound like one that could be echoed and chanted. "Carry your world, I'll carry your world." Sounds like something sang softly. Idk, maybe I just want a dark ballad from Coldplay. Been too long since Amsterdam :P

Here are the lyrics typed btw: (Verse 1) Some saw the sun Some saw the smoke Some heard the gun Some bent the bow Sometimes the wire must tense for the note Caught in the fire say oh (Chorus) Carry your world, I'll carry your world (Verse 2) Some far away Some search for gold Some dragon to slay Heaven we hope is just up the road show me the way, Lord because I I'm about to explode (Chorus) Carry your world, I'll carry your world Carry your world and your hurt What I'd say that this is going to be... different from anything we've heard. No too distant, but still unique. Simply because of the fact that the movie Catching Fire will certainly not have positive electric music, this is not going MX-styled song imo. I mean, it could be like UATW for sure or maybe UIF but I doubt it will be electric. If anything, it could be a slow piano ballad or a Viva-styled song, with slow orchestra, but I doubt it. I hope it is dark since the movie will be dark - and by what they are saying, it fits the theme. I wonder why they call it Atlas instead of perhaps, Carry Your World. I get that World=Atlas, but hmm. Am I looking to much into this before hearing the song? Yes.

Same for me. I didn't start listening to coldplay until last year, so I have listened to every album without having to wait and anticipate the one of the five. I love the face that Coldplay keeps reinventing themselves. I am one of those "people":P that wants sort of a similar sound from the past, but if Coldplay can reinvent themselves again, i'd be wowed. They would have to be very creative to find a new, unique genre that fits their style. Yet, I think if they go back an perfect, say, the Parachute sound - I think the album would amazing. Just my opinion on that.

You don't go to my school  You got kids wearing yoloswag shirts, doing something stupid and then justifying by saying 'YOLO." Worst logic ever.

Best Coldplay song live?!?!!
Moving to mars was actually amazing. I wish they could just carry that onto their next album and make it fit because it was so awesome.

Oh god, is the grammar police after abbreviations now. We are doomed  Seriously though, who actually cares if I put a "ing" after jk? So many kids in my school say jking verbally and type jking, that it has found its way into my vocab. Anyways, I remember reading about the way Chris wrote his lyrics in "A Rush", using mostly first person, while in X&Y, he used 2nd person a lot. I haven't really paid attention to Viva and MX, but does he lean to one or the other?

A completely black album called the black album... jking It's really hard to say what the album cover should look like without knowing what direction the album will be going. If it is a minimalist album, then it will be similar to A Rush and if it is epic and grand it will be like Viva. Or something in between. I hope for something unique, like Nirvana's Nevermind album cover (taking away the naked baby). But something that stands out.

I think that something like that would be amazing. Though I can only imagine them doing that kind of message through a piano driven album. If they did it right, it could really be a master piece, but there is a reason that not many albums are like that. I can imagine you have to be pretty inspired.

Coldplay vs Others
Daylight vs Hey Jude (The Beatles)

Well IMO Viva was about revolution against government and big corporations/banks (Viva and Violet hill. Mylo was more abstract about it. It was more about a revolution of freedom. I'm hoping that there is a bit of desperation mixed with both of those themes.

Chris Martin as a frontman
Maybe I just watched a concert where he was a bit more conversational than others. I agree with what your saying. He probably wasn't very confident. I will say though that another concert I listened to (early 2002 in Vancouver) compared to the 2001, there was a huge difference. And I really think it changed when they started playing arenas instead of smaller venues. Maybe its just me.

Chris Martin as a frontman
So I watched live concerts from 2001, then 2003, then 2006, then 2008, then 2012 (not in one day :P), and I noticed that Chris didn't just go from awkward to awesome. He had little changes. For example, in 2001, he was pretty confident and he talked to the crowd quite a bit. He also was in a smaller venue as well. In 2003, he was nervous, but in control. In 2006, there was this massive change that seemed to happen somewhere in between the two tours. He is way more confident and starts his signature awkward dances:lol:. In 2008, he is very talkative with the crowd, less pumped then 2006. He almost seems really relaxed. And then in 2012, well, he goes back to being very pumped and is very into the music, unlike I think anytime before (which is awesome). Do you guys see this too, or do you see something else?
