As I said a few times, either they go forward with this new sound, or they go backwards. A lot of people here think they'll try something new, but what? Unless they subtly add say dub step, which is fine, there is nothing they can try that's new, that wont outrage majority of everyone. Some people will be fine with almost anything made by Coldplay, but a lot of people hated MX and a lot of people even hated Viva. They have the potential to change music by making great rock songs and putting them in the charts, which is possible, due to the popularity of Coldplay, or they can end the trilogy of experimenting and continue in the electro/string mix like the last two albums. Personally, I want them to do rock, because I think they are at their best with that style of music.

Wish list for next era tour
I think we will see a heavy amount of old classics like Trouble, Shiver, A rush of blood to the head, and Everything's not lost, because there sound will be a less produced sound. I hope.

Coldplay nominated for 2 Grammy Awards (Best Rock Performance/Best Rock Album)
I don't know why some people are surprised MX didn't get nominated or any of the singles. Charlie Brown is a fan favorite, ETDIAWF wasn't a huge hit, and Paradise was considered a pop song. Coldplay is not considered a pop band. Coldplay won't be recognized for pop songs and albums until they have massive hits that are number one, and that simply didn't happen.

BETTER :) No, but Morningglory is right. Coldplay is best with their soft piano. Hell, all their piano stuff is awesome.

Wish list for next era tour
I know I am kind of a hypocrite, because the MX era isn't my favorite era, but MX/HLH live is such a great opener. Maybe fit MX in somewhere... please?

I think LP6 should be radically different then MX era. I think it has to. How many people would be satisfied with MX 2.0? Coldplay got away with sort of making A rush 2.0 with X&Y, but even then, Coldplay had changed their entire live act into more of show rather than a 'watch the band jam' sort of thing they had going from 1999-2002. IMO, they need to increase the setlist to a reasonable 28-30 songs. They have a great number of hits on five albums (hopefully even more with LP6) and soon we will begin losing classics or entire albums are going to be forgotten like X&Y and Parachutes. But back on LP6, they need to remind the music world that they aren't just a top 40 band and they are still the Viva/A Rush Band. Remember, Viva La Vida (the song) went number one and it was hardly mainstream. And MX, an album more suited for the top 40, didn't have a song that made it to number one. So it shows you that the people are willing to buy good music. Now Coldplay just has to realize that and lose the synthesizers (To a point) and the electric beats and we are all good.

I agree with you guys that Coldplay like to do a lot of different genres, but you can't deny that genres don't exist. So call Coldplay Coldplay, but unforunately, I like different Coldplay songs than others and it just so happens that those other ones that liked are either acoustic and beautiful or harder edge. We obviously have slightly different tastes (we all like coldplay though :P) so let us stop bickering about what we want and just hope whatever they do, it will be brilliant.

piano hook for Clocks
its funny, because it is really simple with just my right hand. I can play it without even looking at the piano. The second I start using my left hand, everything gets screwed up. But thanks for the advise. I am thinking of getting lessons, so that should help.

Trying to draw meaning from 'White Shadows'... any thoughts?
Personally, I don't think this song has a lot of meaning to it, but it doesn't make the lyrics any worse. How can't you get chills when he sings, "Swimming in a sea of faces, tide of the human races, oh answer now, it's all I neeeeeed. You see it in the new sun rising, see it break in your horizon, oh c'mon love, stay with meeeeeeee." Always get a chill.

Alright, fair enough, lets stop calling MX pop. Let's call it rock. But MX is still far more electric then any other album that they have put out. And that's what I have a problem with. In technical terms, it is still rock, but it is far from the music that they started with, that I fell in love with. I'm fine with experimential music, and you are correct with the Beatles reference... but many critics call abbey road their best album, which is them going back to their roots after a failure with Magical Mystery Tour. I understand you are a fan of MX, and so am I, but I simply believe Coldplay is best with ballads and more basic rock, rather than full on electric rock.

I am not saying the MX was bad. Far from it. And critics did say MX was good, but most thought it was a drop off from previous efforts. Look at the amount of awards they got nominated with Viva and now with MX. Once again, it has to do with the fact that no one sees Coldplay as a pop band. As for what makes a song rock, easy. I consider the rock genre pretty wide in sub-genres. For coldplay, they played rock ballads, hard rock (Politik, AROBTTH etc.), acoustic rock (Yellow and most of Parachutes), electric rock (X&Y). X&Y is the line between rock and pop. It was full of synths, but the main sound was mostly a guitar sound. MX on the other hand, was full of electric beats and synths that are just not rock. Yes, it isn't freaking Katy Perry, but it's much closer to that then Rush. There are some songs that are rock songs like Major Minus, but the hits songs are an obvious attempt to get into the charts. Unfortunately, I think that Viva La Vida (the song) made it to number one, not because it was hugely mainstream, but because it was so clever with the strings and the wordplay. It was brilliant. I can't say the same for the MX singles. Either way, I think we both won't agree with each other, but I just hope for a great LP6, electric or not.

piano hook for Clocks
So I have been playing piano for a while, but I don't know how to read sheet music. But I've learned clocks, but I understand that you play the hooks with two hands. The problem is that I am having trouble hitting the notes with my index finger, my ring finger and pinkie. My pinky always hits the note way too early. So I was wondering if anyone has a problem with the song, or is it something I am doing? Thanks.

You are going by one critic, who actually rated Rush 5.1... that rater is an idiot, I think we can all agree with that. I respect your opinion, and I don't think MX was bad album. What I am saying is MX was a pop album. It was a POP album. There was rock elements in it, but just because there are guitars in the song doesn't make it rock. The album was electric more than anything. I'm not saying don't put any electric songs in LP6 though. But not the entire album.

I like Hurts like heaven, but I don't want that sound in the next album. I think a lot of people like me think that the next album has to be a rock album and it's as simple as that. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I think Coldplay has gone out of their element a bit. There is a reason why critics weren't so into the album. Not because it wasn't good, because it's better than majority of pop, but it was because they looked at it as a rock album. And so do I. I am not a pop fan. I don't think a lot of people on the board are pop fans. So if Coldplay goes in that directions, it would be a shame, because they were so great at what they were doing. And I think they can only be okay at pop.

I respect your opinion, but AROBTTH was mostly rock and that wasn't such a bad album. It's not that I want one type of music in the album, it's that I think less production and more guitars and piano would be awesome.

Coldplay's Clocks crowned no.1 on BBC Radio 6 Music's countdown
I had a good feeling Clocks was going to win. It is such a good song.

Speed of Sound- Acoustic
You know, people might disagree, but I personally think SoS was the main reason Coldplay went from aspiring band that could do no wrong to U2 "copiers". Critics are like sharks. Even at the hint of blood, they go all out. When you had the similar melodies of Clocks and SoS, it really put a damper on the album. It was the lead single, after all. It's like a birthday party, where the same friend give you two huge gifts, then he gives you the same gift again, but only in a lower quality the next time. You get disapointed. Now imagine an acoustic version of SoS. It couldn't have been the lead single, but I think it would have made a great third single. Put Fix You as he lead single or Talk and X&Y I think would be more critically acclaimed.

^^^Exactly. Coldplay is not going to become another pop band because they know where their fans are. Yeah, they might become popular as a pop band if they tried, but they aren't getting younger. My generation is will like artists one day and another the next. Coldplay knows the limit and though they like to push it a bit with MX and Viva, they always have the CP element we all love. As long as that's there, I'll listen to CP.

Wish list for next era tour
I hope there isn't five MX songs... too many great songs in other albums. Three songs per album plus seven new songs makes it 22 songs in the setlist. I still hope they have at least 25 though.

Coldplay vs Others
Clocks vs Let it Be (The Beatles) At some point, someone has to pretend not to like Clocks or it will go on and on

I'm with you Teco :D I enjoyed the MX period, but let it just be an experiment because I don't know if I would love the pop band Coldplay. But regardless, I'll always love the rock band Coldplay. I really don't think Coldplay is doing another MX.

It's not unheard of for a band to go back to a comfortable sound. The Beatles did it, Queen did it, and a lot of other bands that have experimented after having a lot of success. I don't think another electronic pop album would be even close as successful as MX. As far as I am concerned, MX was a great album, produced some great songs, but eventually, pop songs become pop songs and get repetitive and boring. They'd have to be really creative if they wanted to make another MX. And really, there isn't another sound that is popular that CP hasn't done. The Viva sound was similar to Arcade Fire. Unless they made folk songs (which they might have one or two songs in their new album), they have to revisit a sound they have made. And history says that in these situation, bands will go back to their most successful sound, which would be rock, imo.
