  1. WOW, that's all I'll say for now! In terms of the Jo Whiley stuff, is there more than just that short statement she made and her list of favourite tracks? Or is that it? It's great and exciting but I thought someone said she spoke about it track by track
  2. Ooof, your description of the snippets has me very excited. Keeping clear of them till tomorrow. I remember the video of them performing Someone Special going up and I was so intrigued, wasn't in love with the actual song once it came out though so Arabesque has my attention. I don't hate Stargate's/(MAYBE Rik's) production on AHFOD but I've always wondered how the album would differ without their influence so count me hyped for that too. What kind of Phil Collins? In The Air Tonight climax or like a Two Hearts kinda vibe or nothing like either? Beyond excited at this point
  3. So excited for tomorrow and the later album release despite any apprehension. One thing I'm hoping for a little is that if Arabesque is an old reworked track, I hope The Race has found its way into a new track because it sounds gorgeous, dare I say it, I wouldn't be opposed to Car Kids evolving into something on this album, I've been intrigued about this one forever and wasn't it re registered around the release of Global Citizen EP?
  4. I see your point but it's not like artists are limited to doing near enough the same thing. OT: I can't decide if I think it's really pretty or like others have said, dissapointing with it being so similar to the previous. If it wasn't for their expressions, I'd be slightly inclined to believe this could be fake. I don't know how it's done but I'm sure I've seen fakes uploaded to Amazon before so who knows
  5. I am a tiny bit concerned about the double format of the album. If it's similar to Foals and The 1975 with their recent 'double album' eras, that's fine, because if one of the sides is infinitely more enjoyable than the other, it'll still feel like a separate body of work. Plus one long era with two loose halves sounds exciting. However the wording suggests that it'll be a double disc album with two contrasting sides, which fair enough, could be amazing if they do it well. I just get weary though as Marina, a pop singer who grew from an indie pop background, released her double album this year and it was a bit of a mess in the sense that one minute it was a two sided album with either side focused on a different theme and then the next minute it was described as two albums to enjoy separetly. The end product, whilst I enjoy it, was overall bloated with 16 songs and many fans thought that a grey deal of the songs were a big step down for her artistically, so it all ended up feeling a bit messy. I'm all for more songs than they usually put on an album but I'm not sure 16+ songs for the sake of a possible gimmick is a great idea if there's not a good enough reason to have that many. Idk, I hate being the negative Nancy because I think it's silly when fans getting annoyed at something they're yet to know anything about but Marina's album stratedgy has really threw me on the 'double album thing'. It's nice to be able to enjoy a whole album in one sitting, if both sides are meant to be part of the same body of work but are two long to be enjoyed together, that'll be a shame, if both are really short why bother splitting them. I guess we'll see, I'm sure there'll be incredible music either way. I've heard many fans describe GS and AHFOD as sister albums and I agree to an extent, the contrast each other nicely, so an idea like that to a more realised degree would be great! PS: Sorry if this has tagged a user as a reply, my phone isn't getting on with Coldplaying atm for some reason and it's being a bit weird, quoting stuff randomly, I get rid of the quote but I think it might have still gone through as a reply
  6. Exactly! That's why I'm confused because do people mean they don't want it to be poppy in the sense that they want the song as an orchestral ballad unlike any other Coldplay release, because I'd argue from parachutes onwards, all of their releases have been 'pop' to some degree, even things like Yes which this could be similar too. Or are people just worried this song might descend into a trap beat club song with violins in the background haha Love your profile pic BTW
  7. So glad to be back and see this forum so active! Very excited for what's to come. I do think though that people expecting the entire song to sound like the snippet are setting themselves up for disappointment. I'm not expecting a AOAL style surprise but can we honestly imagine the band's lead single being a new 'classical' piece. I think it's more than likely to have the same prominence in the song as the string section in A L I E N S or at least just a snippet to help further the aesthetic they're going for like others have suggested! Excited to see what happens :)
  8. I'm having such trouble believing that people really think that E-Lo is anything like current Top 40 music. In terms of current pop music, it can be argued to quite experimental, as it's essentially a modern idea of african folk music talking about bringing slavery to an end. If that's similar to anything in current radio or pop music then I guess I'm just wrong haha The song is nothing like SJLT (which is more more like what you're describing) and definitely not like HFTW. The music is more dance and folk than straight pop and the only thing I can think of that has any remote similarities is Disclosure's album Caracal which came out 3 years ago
  9. My guess is that this the EP is one of two or more charity fund raising EPs for Global Citizen. I haven't seen anyone pick up on it yet but Voodoo is an unreleased track from A Head Full Of Dreams so I suspect the idea of these EP songs being unreleased isn't incorrect after all. I'm guessing that that the EPs could be a mix of old and new, with the next EP potentially containing Life Is Beautiful and Car Kids if we're lucky. The first EP has somewhat of an African vibe with the Mandela references, the next one could be more Spanish potentially with the 'band name' and if it features Life Is Beautiful.
  10. Blimey, being away from this forum for a while I forgot how much people jump the gun here. Let's wait and see what the music sounds like on Friday yeah? It's for charity so it's awfully entitles for some of us here to be crying about how Los Unidades shouldn't have happened. I bet not everyone liked Lhuna when that came out but it was for a good cause. I really do think Los Unidades is just a pseudonym for the release of this stuff, to still have an association but to not be too tied down to the Coldplay Brand
  11. Came here to post this haha. I used to really love Kodaline but have gone off them in the last couple of years to an extent. The blatant Coldplay copying is just weird. One thing to be inspired by Coldplay ala High Hopes, it's a great song and clearly evokes that mid naughties brit band sound, but Coming Alive is such a rip off of Hurts Like Heaven it's uncanny. To top it off, when I saw them in 2015, the song played before the band came on was that Jon Hopkins song Coldplay were using before a lot of their sets in 2014, probably a coincidence but who knows
  12. Not sure what to think of this now. I'm super excited for its release but it feels like the AHFOD era has been well and truly done with for quite a while now, considering the album came out in 2015, it feels a bit awkward that the live album/film will be released so long after the tour has finished (if they do release it). Half of me thinks it makes no sense from a commercial point of view because there might be little interest now but then at the same time, Coldplay have such a good relationship with the general public, anything they put out is likely to do well anyway and it's not like none coldplay fans really keep up with how long its been since tours and stuff. Obviously I'll take whatever we're given as fans and I'll be grateful for it but it does seem a bit too disconnected with the era but oh well
  13. Everyone has different tastes and I will always respect that but I have loved the AHFOD era so much and it's a weird but kind of sweet feeling that it's now come to an end. I think AHFOD is a great album, but agree with some others with that it's not quite as great as it could be, but i wouldn't change much other than the production here and there. I know a lot the songs aren't their best but I just have so much feeling attached to most of the songs and then i was so pleased when i was able to add three more excellent songs into the tracklist (AICTAIY, ALIENS and Hypnotised) and now it really feels complete, from start to finish it feels like such a journey and I have a lot of great memories associated with this album. Thank you Coldplay. I have no idea what they will actually bring out, I kind of do see them releasing something along the lines of an electronic-ish ROBTTH as some have suggested. As well as this, I could imagine something slightly psychedelic/beatles-y, very 60s and 70s but brought into modern day, I'd love to see that.
  14. Anyone made a tracklist combining AHFOD and KEP? I thought there'd be loads of interest in that haha
  15. I've been thinking about this since they announced the EP. Now it's been released, I'm kinda unsure. I'd probably only add in AICTAIY, Aliens and Hypnotised, but I can't decide on a tracklist that works. 1. A Head Full Of Dreams (Wonderful Adventure version) 2. Birds 3. Hymn For The Weekend 4. Aliens 5. Fun 6. Everglow (Probably add rain sounds, like someone here did to the single version) 7. Adventure Of A Lifetime 8. Hypnotised 9. Kaleidoscope 10. All I Can Think About Is You 11. Amazing Day 12. Colour Spectrum 13. Up&Up This is my current one but I feel like AICTAIY works best as an opener but I can't bare to swap it with AHFOD, and I also feel like the jump from AICTAIY to Amazing Day is a bit weird too but there's nothing I could really put in there other than Army Of One (which I'm not a massive fan of) that would make it better.
  16. I really love it. It's experimental, cool and features some really beautiful piano. If people still say that Coldplay only make crappy radio-pop now this really proves them wrong. However I'd really like to hear a fixed version of this song, I'm not really sure what I think it needs because I quite like the dreamy vocals, although I wouldn't mind them being a little clearer. Maybe the first half needs a little something more, but then saying that, I could listen to a much longer version of the second half too. I'm pretty sure there'll be a fan fixed version on here eventually, unless the professional live recording changes anything
  17. Ok so here's one and turns out it includes both lyrics! I realised that the video I had heard from before had only the updated version that I mentioned, I think it seems like they sang UATW with this extra bit each time they performed it during the AHFOD tour! It starts around the 2:25 mark
  18. I really hope it's something. I was hoping that if there were going to be an redo-s on the EP they'd record this as an extended version of UATW. I love it, they've sang it again since but I think they changed the words to '...fly home to me, I know it's us against the world, only you can set me free'
  19. Also, does anyone think they nearly could have written their first truly political song in years with this? The second verse if re-written slightly could definitely have a political feel to it, so they could have made a rather political song with this. I'm not too bothered though because I love this. I definitely feel the Fly On/Atlas influences on this like others have pointed out
  20. It would be lovely if they did release more! The only way I could see them doing it is if they release a single other than SJLT from it and put a B-side on the single or if there's a hidden track!
  21. BIB: I completely agree with this in the sense that this kind of sound was what I wanted and thought we were going to get with the era, something a little Pink Floyd-y, something a little beatles-y but still very Coldplay. Half of me wants them to continue exploring the sound but take the psychedelic influences further but then half of me wants to keep that associated with AHFOD and then they move on to something completely different with 'The Next One'. You never know, the next three songs off the EP could be just as satisfying and I'd be really happy with that.
  22. I think the annoying thing about the short amount of tracks is the amount of hype that went in to waiting for it and then when it's announced, there's potentially on 2 completely new songs we'll hear when it comes out. If it had been announced say a month before and maybe without Hypnotised being released and just SJLT, then it wouldn't have been so irritating with less of a wait for a few songs and it would be a nice surprise, I guess we only have our selves to blame for getting so hyped. If we were to include all the songs currently on it, this would be the ideal tracklist for me: 1. A Head Full Of Dreams (Alternative Version) 2. All I Can Think About Is You 3. Something Just Like This 4. Miracles 2 5. A L I E N S 6. New Song 7. Kaleidoscope ii (With the instrumental under the poem being sung over as a full song) 8. Hypnotised And pushing it, I'd even swap SJLT or maybe Miracles two for the new version of Us Against The World they sing on tour, I'm dying for a professional recording of that. And seeing as we'll never get an extended Kaleidoscope, is anyone good at sound editing? I've got an idea to make a song with the instrumental (if there is one) and vocals from an unreleased song, I'd love to do it my self but I'm not very good haha
  23. I remember when people were speculating before AHFOD that it could have a similar sound to this, after the Dark Side Of The Moon symbol after True Love and the artwork for AHFOD, so I'm glad we got a song like this!
  24. Anyone getting a Pink Floyd vibe from this, like the way Chris sings and that dreamy guitar oh my god! Massively bummed that there's technically only three new songs on the EP considering Miracles 2 could just be a rehash of what we know. I would have loved an extra one and then a version of Kaleidoscope with them turning it into a fuller song. But idk guess I'm just being ungrateful haha, I love this song.
  25. This is exactly the kind of music I was expecting from AHFOD with all the psychedelic imagery and stuff, I can hear a little bit of Pink Floyd in there.
