In My Place

I don't like the song too much... I thought it would sound a little more subdued after Adele's comments on how 25 would probably sound. She has probably the best female voice in pop music, and the vocals on Hello do nothing to detract from that, but the song just sounds too similar to her previous work. I like variety, not 21 part 2. Then again, it is only one song, so like Coldplay's Amazing Day we shouldn't use it as a definite predictor of the whole new album's sound.

It might not be tomorrow, but whenever a new song does come out it will make my day. :) Now that we've figured out what's probably making the music video take so long, it makes sense that the single still isn't out. Maybe the band is using this time to finish the album while the video is prepared.

Up With the Birds

A crazy theory just popped into my mind... the color wheel is confirmed as a part of this era's outfits. The mandala, a symbol of Indian culture that was featured in rainbow form on the outfits, is a circle. 360 degrees=a full circle. A circle can represent a cycle of beginning, ending, and restarting... similar to the Hindu belief in reincarnation. The band is finishing "something" with AHFOD, but it's not going to be the end of the band. They will still be around to continue on. There could be a LOT of symbolism going on here! EDIT: In Judeo-Christian theology, the number 7 represents completion as well... and this is LP7. I might be overanalyzing all of this and coming up with meanings and symbols that aren't significant, but it's still fun to theorize. :happy2:

Well we now know that Mat Whitecross was not involved. Wow, that must be one hell of an experience if you're first music video as a director is with an artist as successful as Coldplay. I do hope that there will be a way for people like myself who cannot afford a VR headset to enjoy the video anyways... I don't know how it all works when they film in 360 degrees and whether or not they can make a "normal" version of the video.

Haha, that reminds me of how George Lucas managed to use the number 1138 in some form or another in almost every one of his movies. He used it in film titles, dialogue, and even on a character's license plate! Maybe this author is a fellow Coldplayer or a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan (unless his/her book came first). ;)

I guess because of the title's similarity to A Sky Full of Stars, I've been expecting the title track to be as big and uptempo as Hurts Like Heaven or Don't Let It Break Your Heart. Another wish in my head full of dreams about how the album will turn out is that each band member will have a sort of "showcase" song that they mostly wrote and contains quite a lot of their chosen instrument. For example, Chris would have a beautiful piano ballad a la Amsterdam/The Scientist, Jonny would have a HLH kind of song, Guy would have a Low kind of song where the bass is very pronounced and moves the song along more so than any other instrument, and a song where Will sings and has a heavy, somewhat fast drum part a la White Shadows.

I shuffled the Coldplay songs in my iTunes and right as it got to about 9:42 local time, Mylo Xyloto (the instrumental intro, not the album) came on. It just so happens to be 42 seconds long. I skipped to the next track because I didn't want to listen to Mylo Xyloto without Hurts Like Heaven coming afterward. The next track came on while it was still 9:42. That song, by some coincidence was... well... 42. :D

Now this game is feeling a bit forgotten. :( I feel bad that when I'm away and cannot vote, there are people who are active elsewhere and do not visit this thread. This game is overshadowed by everything else.

I'd say probably 1-2 songs have some horns. I do think that since strings are Davide's specialty, he has contributed more of those. Because of Amazing Day, I know that they are still around. I don't expect any songs that sound like Viva La Vida, Rainy Day, or Yes, but we'll probably get some nice less prominent strings nonetheless.

Theoretically the single could still be released within the next day but we have no clear-cut evidence suggesting that it will happen. All we have are rumors and the possibility of a surprise release.
