Coldplaying Charity Club

Coldplaying for Fair Play

  1. Hi all, I read a troubling article on the effect on Chris Martin's use of a private jet has on climate change. Apparently his hugely unnecessary flights across the Atlantic cause a massive carbon footprint and are effecting global warming. How does this tie in to his work with fair trade, Amnesty International and Oxfam? I'd love to know others' thoughts on this. Thanks Ross

A while ago I posted when Simon M Harris and I collaborated on a couple of songs after both being featured on the CCC album. Well, we made another song, so if you're interested, visit my myspace page. It's the first one. http://www.myspace.com/ifiifi

  6. Started by Jenjie,

Millions of mums in poor countries get low-quality health care, or are forced to go without it altogether. Every minute a woman with no medical care dies in pregnancy or childbirth – a mum who would have cared for her baby, carried on being a friend, a sister, a daughter, a wife – and a mum to her other kids. Oxfam are campaigning to raise awareness and funds to stem this tide – and they've been doing it with knitting. Over the last six months thousands of knitters have created 14,000 squares, each one representing a mum who is no longer alive to care for her baby. The next part of the campaign is the big stitch up: sewing the squares into blankets. Oxfam are lo…

I am not sure if this the appropriate forum to post this in. Anywho though, I recently called upon some of my fellow classmates to write letters to the new Obama administration and the American congress asking for approval of the newly proposed MONUC mandate allowing for desperately needed peacekeepers in the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo. If you are not familiar with what I am talking about, Human Rights Watch has put out a video explaining the gross violence that has occurred in the region during the last few weeks - http://www.hrw.org/sites/default/files/features/drc1108/video.htm I thought I would just share a guide I wrote up on how to write to congr…

  8. A woman named Comfort wants to take you on "a journey through chocolate heaven." Standing in a room with modern white furniture and below dimly lit spherical lights hanging from the ceiling, Ghanaian cocoa farmer Comfort Kumeah explained how she makes her chocolate, using constant hand motions to break through any misunderstandings her strong accent may cause. Surrounded by people dressed in business-casual attire, Kumeah stood out before saying a word, wearing a bright yellow top and pants adorned with African patterns. Kumeah is part of Kuapa Kokoo, a more than 20,000-person cocoa grower's cooperative based in Ghana, West Africa that, with the help of investors, s…

OK, so we're not making a mint off the first one, but it's still really special and amazing, and there are new artists on the forum, so what's the harm in making the next one?? I'll pay for the mastering, like I did last time. All I need is the artists to jump on and submit a song. Heck, we could make a whole series of them at no cost to anyone. Garreth, Zemy...let's do a new one!!! Who's in???

It was recommended to me that I should drop by here and post. I own a tshirt design/screenprint business. I offered to make some COLDPLAYING tshirts for the members so we could be recognized by other members. This was before I knew about CCC. I am offering my services to the forum and should be able to get members and forum moderators a better price than cafepress. I will also donate all proceeds to OXFAM. I am not posting this to step on any toes, but rather to keep printing costs down for all involved. Not sure who to send this to so I am posting it here. Thanks! Kelly

Some of us don't have money to donate or time to volunteer. That's why Stanford University has made it easy for everyone to help find cures for diseases simply by installing a small application on their home pc/mac that analyzes protein molecules and then sends back the results to Stanford. It's called Folding@home and more than 50,000 teams (600,000 users) have joined to help. I would like to officially invite Coldplaying Charity Club to join Isara's Folding@home Team so that we can work together to find cures for diseases. All you need to do is download a small file (it's completely safe) and install it (takes one minute). The application runs in the background, whi…

  21. Celebrities are queuing up to become charity ambassadors, but do they make a difference? BONO DOES it. Madonna too. Likewise Scarlett Johansson, Annie Lennox, George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. David Beckham and Geri Hallliwell, famously, have also dabbled, while Brad and Angelina do it so much it's hard to see how they have time to squeeze any film-making at all into their busy schedules. "It" is charity work. Many of we normals also do it, of course, though our efforts are unlikely to see us rewarded with a title. Such honorifics - Global Ambassador is a common one - are reserved for celebrities and have become the ultimate accessory for the star with a conscience.…

http://www.kiva.org/ What is Kiva ? Kiva lets you lend to a specific entrepreneur in the developing world - empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty. This isn't charity, it is A LOAN. As loans are repaid, you get your money back. Microfinance loans worldwide are generating repayment rates of 97% (UNCDF: Basic Facts About Microfinance). To date, Kiva.org’s repayment rate is ... 100% ! When Yunus Mohammed won the Nobel Prize last year with his Microfinance concept, I was immediately won over. I was looking into a way to contribute to the system, and one of my friends on the u2.com board - Jacquie - came up with this website. Just thought I'd share :-)

  25. Knitting is all the rage at the moment. You just have to do a little searching around on the Web to find all sorts of compulsive knitters, knitting clubs, trendy knitters, knitters who are into blogging, and knitting parents. There are even some self-styled guerrilla knitters (the campaigning type, not knitting primates). There's a whole army of knitters out there, and if you're one of them Oxfam needs you! We're searching for knitters to turn their knitting needles into lethal poverty fighting needles. Staff in our Leeds office have just started a new campaign to create a giant baby blanket, with each square knitted representing a mother who did not survive preg…
